A Must See For The Entire Family

    by

I took my son and his friend to see Oz last night, and I have to tell you all how well of a job the director Sam Raimi & Disney did with the story. We did not see the 3D version but the visuals were still awesome. I believe the story takes place about 20 years before Dorothy lands in Oz. Sam Raimi did a wonderful job in piecing the story together and linking it to The Wizard of Oz. And to have a true master composer like Danny Elfman to do the music for the film was the perfect choice. James Franco was fantastic but Zach Braff was the stand out comedic character for me playing Franco's side kick flying bellhop monkey.known as Finley. Mila Kunis was also a standout witch who will astound you later on in the film. I know this film had mixed reviews by critics, but I normally don't listen to them. Go take the family to see this movie, because for 2 hours you will be highly entertained!! That's what it's all about, leaving your problems at the front for a little while and just have fun!

    Soooo disappointed

Bad acting, really stupid story line. The only good thing was the scenery and that really wasn't all that impressive either. Started yawning about 30 minutes in and couldn't wait for it to be over. Don't waste your money on this one!

    Absolutely Terrible!

We took the kids 8 & 13 to go see this movie. OMG it was terrible. Laughable at times. The acting was embarrassing especially Mila Kunis. It was almost like the acting was terrible on purpose to try and be funny. It was that bad. Seriously, do not waste your time seeing this movie!

    Let's Pause Oz

    by

Disney has a way of making Disney films right? This wasn't that bad but it wasn't that good either. It's really just a "big kids" movie if you ask me. It had potential but the loose story line factored in with a bit of over acting all wrapped up in too much CGI leaves guys like me wanting his money back. It's a rental but even then you'll probably be playing games on your phone while watching.

    Major Disappointment

    by JLLJ

OZ the Great Powerful was one of the worst movies I've seen in the theaters in recent memory. It is best described as a major disappointment. I would not recommend it to anyone, not even small children. It's not even worth watching as a $1 rental.

    Oz The Great and Powerful

This movie was not good. It was silly and unnecessary. The original was the best Wizard of Oz ever made. Disney should have left it alone.

    Very Good, Worth Watching...

This was a very good movie... I would see it again. Kids would enjoy this moviie... Is a true PG with the witchs, might be frightening to very little ones whos parents let small ones go to PG.

Kudos to Kunis....... Mila Kunis did an incredable job.....

    Loved Oz

    by noloser

I wish I would have seen it in 3D. It was really entertaining and can only imagine how great it would be in 3D. May have to go again.

    very creative

I enjoyed this movie. I went late last night down by Union Square with less than 10 people in the theater. So it was peaceful.
I love the tie-ins to The Wizard of Oz and how they created the back story for the wizard. Also, the wizard's ingenious plans to work "magic" made me smile because the concepts are utilitarian to modern society. Bridging our practical utilities with fantasy magic was genius.
The only thing that lacked for me was the acting. Kids may like the effects, costumes and color of it all. But I was longing for more seasoned actors to make those characters believable. Of course, it's possible that would put it in a different category and end up unsuitable for kids. Overall, I thought it was immensely creative.

Lots of eye-candy, but mediocre writing and acting performances

Title says it all. Special effects are good but not great. Writing and acting are just OK, with James Franco and Mila Kunis delivering very predictable performances.

    Great oz

    by etowens

And great it was. I took my Grandkids to see this thinking they would really enjoy it. They certainly did but the added bonus was that so did I ! I loved it and it brought back childhood memories with the black and white start to the movie.I would recommend this to anyone of any age. The graphics were outstanding and the story line was excellent. Go see it .

    Oz: The Great and Powerful

Loved how the movie opened much like the original Wizard of Oz--color transitioning. It definitely does have some elements that younger children will not be able to understand that are sexual in nature but nothing explicit. I loved how you get to see how things tie in from L.Frank Baum's books in the series and the original film.

James Franco did a good job working with the slapstick humor of the time period but when the film called for seriousness, I had a feeling that it was hard for him to stay serious. Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and mostly Mila Kunis all did a fabulous job playing to main women in Oz. It's always good to see how one tries to do the best and it just gets turned around on them in the worst kind of way.

    Strange

Oz was made for 3D. If I had elected to see it in 3D I more than likely would have enjoyed the flowers blooming a tad more. AS it was though, not something I would recommend. The wicked witch was poorly cast. I just can't seem to not see Mila Kunis in some basement with a bunch of stoners. It's that voice !! She needs voice and acting lessons. Everyone was poorly directed and stiff. James Franco came off as a sexual predator that we are supposed to cheer for in the end. He needed to have a unfortunate accident. There was no moral story there only vanity, jealousy, greed, all of the sins then some!!

    Oz the Great

Oz the Great and Powerful is a very decently made movie. Worth the going to. A little fractured in the storytelling, and what happened to the Red Shoes?--Evanora was supposed to end up with them in the first place, but I digress......The transformations for Theadora and Evanora were visually something to see, the movie kept some of the elements of the original Oz movie...Liked the film overall..The music was good, but the ending credit music...why does there have to be a modern song for a "period" film...spoils it a lot...

    Disappointed!

    by

My husband and I were pretty excited to see this movie. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money. I wish I would have waited until it came to DVD. I never write reviews but maybe this will save you a few bucks.
