    OZ the Great and Powerful

I was really looking forward to this movie for myself and to see if it would be appropriate for my younger grand children.
On the plus side the graphics and visuals were really great.
On the down side the acting and story line just did not do it for me. Oz, although great to look at, seemed a bit hokey. The three witches did a bit better but were still not very believable. Some of the scenes seemed to drag on and on and others were not well thought out.
    Fair movie but was disappointed.
Will not recommend and will not take the grand kids.

    A bit longish for me

This movie was okay. It's not Wizard of Oz quality, even though it tries to be. My two youngest grandchildren seemed to like the movie, though. It was a bit longish for me. I got bored about 1 1/5 hours in and I wished it was over. I liked the actors and the characterizations and the coloring was pretty. Too bad it didn't keep my interest.

    fun and fantasy

First of all, this is not a remake of the classic movie, it is a different part of the story. It is magical, and fun and colorful and yes, over-acted, but it works for the most part. My boys, ages 12 and 10 really liked it.

    Ok, not great

The film itself was an interesting idea, being told from the wizards perspective, with a few literary differences. I didn't really like some of the actors, thought their performances were a bit lazy.

    Oz The Great

    by ymena81

It was definitely a movie for children. It did became more exciting in the latter half of the film when there was more action. My nine year old enjoyed it very much.

    A great prequel

Sam Raimi did a great job matching the flavor of the original movie. It's a welcome addition to the Oz story line and a great all-around fantasy film. The film runs a little long for young children and there are elements that can be extremely scary for them, but pre-teens and teens should enjoy the film along with the adults. It's not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, there are many questions that arise throughout the film, but if you just sit back and enjoy the film for what it is, you'll have a great time. James Franco is a great choice for the wizard and Mila Kunis is amazing, by far the best character in the film. The film is funny, touching, exciting, and wonderful. Go see it now!

    Disappointed . . .

Great graphics, visuals, and animation, but the acting was mediocre; especially James Franco. There were places where it just dragged on and on, and overall lacked the "great and powerful" that it promised. I agree with another reviewer that Theodora's Wicked Witch was poorly done, definitely took away from the performance otherwise. Definitely one you could wait for the DVD.

    Oz the Great and Powerful

No what I expected. Thoought it wopuld be a little more interesting, but it was just OK.
There were lots of children in the theater, not a children's movie. Moved very slow. Corny parts did nto add to the movies theme.

Great visuals, decent story, worth the theater ticket

The visuals alone make this movie worth seeing on the big screen. I was pleased to see that Elfman had done the score, even more pleased at how well the score blended into the movie...loved the way he switched time signatures repeatedly in the intro music...it created a lovely feeling of being a bit unsettled, just like a 'wizard' from Kansas might feel after being plunked down in the midst of Oz.

Overall, I thought it was a well-done prequel, with a lovely flavor of the original books by Baum.

I wish the hot air balloon would have kept going passed OZ

This movie was horrible. Disliked it from the start.. The only good part was the BAD witch and she wasn't in it enough. UGGGG what a waste of money!

    Terrible

What a great message to send to girls. The movie portrays women as bitter and when they don't get their man they turn into...well the wicked witch.

Franco is NOT believable as Oz. Mila was awful as the wicked witch and the CGI graphics looked straight out of Alice in Wonderland or the Lorax.

    Thanks Disney.

Excited before, but a bit let down

Although the movie was beautiful to watch in the sense of the CGI effects and overall visual aspect, I felt it lacked a certain essence. The acting was fine but a bit cheesy at times and overall I felt like the movie was very slow. It felt like it took forever to get to the point.

The story-line itself was entertaining and really liked what they did with ::SPOILER:: transformation of the nice pretty witch to the evil green monster that marks the classic story.

Overall, it wasn't a bad watch but I'd wait to watch it on DVD.

A MUST SEE FOR ALL LOVERS OF THE"WIZARD"!

1939 still resonates as one of the most iconic year?s in film history; films that to this day are watched and relished consistently: ?Gunga Din?, ?Goodbye Mr. Chips?, ?Stagecoach?, ?Dark Victory?, ?Wuthering Heights?, and my two favorites, ?Gone with the Wind? and ?The Wizard of Oz?. So it was with massive trepidation that I went to see ?Oz: The Great and Powerful?; a prequel to ?Dorothy?s? fantastical jaunt down the yellow- brick -road. Amazingly, I found it quite wonderful, enchanting, a visual romp through an imaginary landscape filled with flying monkeys, beautiful witches masking heinous trickery, and one whose powers shimmer with godliness. It was glorious entertainment; fun, from commencement to conclusion...

?Oz: The Great and Powerful? gifts audiences, something sorely absent in movies today: laughter, joy and long after leaving, the glow of jubilance, merriment, happiness...

Great potential dampened by overuse of CGI

    by

It could have been great; it wasn't. See it when it comes to Netflix or RedBox.

The whole movie, I kept thinking... "Man, it's gotta be hard to act when all you're interacting with is CGI nothingness."

The overall story was good, if predictable.

I felt there were several scenes where the directing was just bad. Chase scenes, of which there are a lot, were especially contrived and poorly-directed.

Acting was stilted, attributed not to the actors but to the fact that most of the environment (and half of the other characters) they were reacting to was CGI.

    Fell asleep

My kids really wanted to see this movie so I took them during Spring Break. My ten year old really liked it, my sixteen year old said it was OK and I fell asleep. It was not what I expected and I feel that I wasted my money.
