    Guilty Pleasure

Full disclosure: I didn't read the book before seeing the movie.
While the plot is a little slow moving, the beautiful backdrop of a sleepy southern town makes up for it. And while no Nicholas Sparks story will ever live up to The Notebook, I would definitely see this movie again as a guilty pleasure.

    Safe Haven

This is a rom/com with a little drama/thriller thrown in for good measure . It's based on a Nicholas Sparks book . The movie starts with Julianne running from a house [with a bloody knife in hand] and catching a bus out of town . David plays a cop in hot pursuit . Julianne gets to a small town and decides that it is a good place to hide [she changes her name & hair color , which is all you really need to do to avoid the police] . She meets Josh , a local store merchant , recently widowed [he lost his wife to cancer] and taking care of 2 little kids . She also befriends Cobie , a neighbor just down the road . Julianne is not looking for a relationship with Josh [but it finds her anyway] . During flashbacks , you learn more back story and there are a couple of good plot twists that make it worth watching . I enjoyed it [it was better than 'The Notebook'] .
I would probably buy it on DVD .

Powerful Story with an awkard Twist

Well well well, at least this movie was a little more "mature" than "The Notebook," and great acting by all characters, and this movie punches a lot of surprises and there's this weird twist towards the end....which kind of blows the whole thing apart, I never thought there would be a "ghost" in the movie...I guess if thats how they portrayed it, I think they could have done the ending a lot more better without a "ghost" sort of type thing. But anyway, the movie did portray a lot of powerful and emotional experiences one would truly face in real life, like what intoxicants (alcohol) does to someone and how there lives end in tragedy. But overall, a great movie to watch, its worth watching it, very powerful story.

Go if you're looking for a comedy

One of the worst movies I've seen in my entire life. Very choppy and ended abruptly. Bad acting. Bad script. VERY funny if you can take it that way.

    Great romantic movie

    by

LOVED the book, so had to see the movie. Very similar to book, if you have read, but don't expect to see the book played out in the movie. Good mindless movie...you don't have to really figure anything out, just watch and enjoy!

    Safe Haven Review

I thoroughly enjoyed Safe Haven. Like the book on which it is based, it was well-written. The cinematography was superb, especially the parts on the beach and water. The climax had me on the edge of my seat, although I already knew how it'd turn out because I'd read the book. The directing was very good, and the actors seemed very sincere. I don't remember seeing Josh Duhammel in any other roles, but I thought this role was good for him because he came across as a loving, protective father. The part where he is in the room above his store, struggling with his grief over the loss of his wife and realizing how much he loves Katie and is about to lose her, is very poignant. I've seen Julianne Hough in some other roles and I thought this was her best one. When the identity of Katie's friend Jo was revealed, it surprised a lot of people. One young man down the row from me shouted, "I'm outta here!" and stalked out of the theater to a chorus of laughter. He should've read the book.

    A pleasant surprise!

I took my wife to see this movie on Valentine's Day as a selfless act (my thinking) to gain me some brownie points, but I soon found out that I was just as in to the movie as my wife was. The movie was slow at times, but it had a great story and kept my attention. The twist at the end was a little hard to accept because it was so blunt, but it also had a good element to it. I am not normally a Nicolas Sparks fan, but I enjoyed this movie very much! I would definitely recommend to anyone who is a Sparks fan or into these types of movies.

    Safe Haven

I liked this movie better than I thought I would. It wasn't just a chick flick. It was a love story set in a small NC ocean-side town, but it had intrigue and suspense with an ending that really surprised both my wife and myself. We didn't see it coming.

Could have been a Lifetime Movie

    by jdnrd

This movie may have been better if I had read the book first. I thought it was a little long for the storyline and found myself bored at times. This, for me would have been a letter LMN movie. The story was a bit predictable and I think it it would have moved a bit faster, it wouldn't have given the audience enough time to predict what was going to happen. Even the bid twist at the end I had figured out a few minutes before the reveal. At times, it felt like I was watching Sleeping with The Enemy.

    Safe Haven

Love all of Nicholas Sparks' books. Safe Haven is great! Actors did a great job. I remember Josh back in the All MY Children days. Movie is especially good being filmed in Oak Island and Southport, NC. I go there regularly on vacation and felt homesick as I watched the beautiful scenery of the beaches and water around Southport. Sunsets are always beautiful. Yacht Basin Provision Co. and the Frying Pan are the best restaurants, and Great American Fish Co. is a wonderful place to meet locals and tours for a glass of wine. The 4th of July parade makes the whole town stop for a day with the crafts in the park another plus. Southport and Oak Island have the home town feel and hopefully it never changes. The movie/book is true to the life of the people there and in the traditional South.

Great movie!!! My husband is not in to romantic movies but this one had some action and suspense so he was pretty into it! Amazing story and I'm sure women out there who are abused can relate and find the movie inspiring for them. Julianne plays her role beautifully and is a breath of fresh air on on film. Josh is a handsome widowed father and as well is a inspiration for other fathers out there who have not yet found love after losing there wife. We need to see more of these two in films. Great work cast :) !!!

Should have been a Lifetime Made For TV movie

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Josh Duhamel but he and the other cast members couldn't successfully save Julianne Hough's terrible acting. Even Mimi Kirkland and Noah Lomax as the kids did a better job of acting. Someone should send Julianne to their acting coaches for lessons.

The Notebook was a far better movie. As for the plot, this seems like a modern day redo of Sleeping with the Enemy. Both are equally bad for the acting despite name brand actors.

Save your dollars. Wait for it as a free movie. Sorry, Josh.
