Uninspired

It's a haunted house. You know, an experience you step into so that you can be shocked and frightened if you kind of go along with it. And the scary stuff is done well in this movie. Special effects are generally good and the film generally looks good. There is an enormous amount of energy spent trying to develop the divorce subplot with way too many awkward scenes of ex's interacting as children are picked up and dropped off, and of the ex being passive aggressive around the new love interest, and it's just not done well. Meanwhile the background story of the monster is treated reluctantly and abruptly. Lots of Exorcist II overtones. There wasn't really anything interesting about the characters. At the heart of every good movie is a good story...The story here is thin and unsatisfying; little more than a vehicle used to deliver a few well done scary scenes.

Great Movie

No clue why some people thought it was funny...?? Also if you were not interested why did you go?? Why did you even write a review.

People are talking trash. The Movie was very well put together and made the hair on your neck stand up. Best horror movie I have seen recently sense The Women in Black.

Im a big movie guy and loved it a lot better than some of these possession movies.

The ring meets the Rite

I expected more. Lucky for us we went during a matinee so we didn't pay full price. I was hoping for so much more scare for my buck. If you easily scare then this will probably scare you. If you are like me and looking for a truly scary movie, keep looking. Keeping up with the usual "lets be dumb and dumber" moments, this movie has them. You want to slap the mother and you feel bad for the father. The main character follows the cliche of being pulled further and further to her doom. All while the main characters sister sticks to the expected lingering in limbo till near the end of the movie.
The movie does move along. The acting was adequate for such a movie. But there are a lot of similar special effects and scenes that has you flashing between this movie, The ring and the Rite.

Very tame but interesting

I saw this movie in a packed theater full of coiling middle schoolers - the appropriate age and atmosphere for this movie. As this was not my first rodeo and I am an avid movie goer for the slightly spooked, this movie was a little too juvenile for me. Rather than using the now cliche "Found Footage" format - this movie does have a traditional scary movie story line. It does get one hooked very early on, but does not sustain this type of shock and awe. Maybe its just me, but this film was very bright and airy for a horror film. Perhaps that is part of the look of the film and I'm just stubborn. Finally, the story of this movie does harken back to the great exorcism/ possession films of old yet does not firmly grasp its own hold on american cinema. This film is almost a parody of itself. If you are hoping for a few good jumps out of your seat, and possibly even a few nightmares, this film will leave you unfulfilled. If you are 14 and going to a sleepover, this is a quality pick!

The Possession was GREAT!

I love scary movies - and good ones are hard to come by. This one ranks up there with The Ring which is one my my all time favorites! Watch it!

Good Possession genre movie

While it won't change your world, this is a good scary movie. Well filmed and edited, and acted. Better than the typical spring loaded horror films. Well written and NOT FOR KIDS.
Nice that my jewish homies finally got an exorcist picture.... :)

Very good movie,loved it!

I really enjoyed watching "The Possesion".Great acting.This movie is definetelly not for kids,although even the teenagers managed to spoil the whole experience a little by getting too excited and scared...Mature audiences only,I would say....I think this movie is really worth seeing,if you're interested in this sort of topic(possessions and etc.),of course.This was kind of an upgrade of "The Exorcist".One thing that could be changed in this movie is that there could be English subtitles translating when the demon speaks at times,because it speaks in Polish.I understood,but I doubt anyone else did...and it does make a difference...Enjoy :) !

The Possession

I liked the movie it kept my attention and it had me in suspense all the way through to the end. It's a must see if your looking to see a good Horror and Suspense Film!!!!

Very well made BUT

The movie was very well made and thought out. HOWEVER, if you've seen one "possession/exrocism" movie, you've seen them all.

Basically, if I had never seen any other movie in the genre, and watched this one first, I'd give it a 5/5. But with the over saturation of demonic possessions in the movies, it just feels like watching an unofficial sequal of the exorcist.

Raimi Almost Rivals The Exorcist...

Sam Raimi has a good track record and rarely lets me down. The Possession was no different. It succeeds on nearly every level. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays the distracted but loving father, Kyra Sedgwick turns in a truly inspired performance as the ex wife and mother trying not to be bitter and move on. Our two little stars however were Madison Davenport as Hannah and Natasha Calis as Em; both two bright young stars with talent beyond their years. The real surprise here for me came in the brilliant casting of Matisyahu as Rabbi Tzadok. Easily pulling off a very believable Jewish version of an exorcism. It brought back memories of Max Von Sydow's performance in The Excorcist. The story moved along at a steady pace with the scares coming in Raimi's signature style. The movie would get a five star rating from me if not for the very end. We all knew what cliche could present, but hoped it wouldn't. Alas, it happened so I left disappointed. The last 15 seconds that shouldn't have been.

worst movie of my life

i had a free movie ticket and went to see this with friends and was so glad i did not pay for it. the movie had no plot and just completely sucked. after the first 15 minutes i left because i could not stand to wast 2 hours of my life. DONT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!

Definitely a satisfying scare

It's certainly not "award-winning" but still a good horror flick. Love Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick. They were both great (as usual) and the two young girls were good as well. The youngest actress was VERY creepy. It was similar to a lot of other "possession" type movies, but still fun to watch.

This is not "based on true story" but "Inspired by true story". I haven't seen the movie like this for so long. At one point, I really felt like "I must get out of here!"
Make sure to protect yourself spiritually before you go!!!

The Possession

I enjoy a good horror flick; and this one certainly was enjoyable to me....

It might not be everyone's "Cup Of Tea", but I WOULD RECOMMEND it. The acting was good. and if they did a PART II, I would see it.

Totally Disapointed

This movie was not anything like expected. It is not a "Horror" movie! There are no real scary parts in this movie and it was a total let down to me. Yes there are a few suspenseful moments but nothing worthy of the words Horror, Thriller, or Scary. I still do not think it would be a movie any small children should watch. The acting was average as well as the directing. If you like those so called scary movies like the paranormal activity series, then this movie is for you.
