    Great!

I would suggest reading the book first. At least, that's what I did and I found the movie more enjoyable.

Awesome movie and everyone should see it!

    The Hobbit

This is one of those movies that should be seen in a theater on a big screen. But the theater didn't know the showing I was at was 3D. At the last minute they scrambled to get us glasses. I am not sure if it was the glasses or the way the 3D was filmed but it took a while to get accustomed to the 3D effects.

I thought the action sequences were, at times, over populated but other than that and the difficulty with the glasses, I enjoyed the movie. The Hobbit is one of my favorite stories and I am glad to see it being brought to life in detail and in such a loving manner.

    The Hobbit

We loved it! I have read all the books. There was a lot of creative license taken in this movie that embellished many aspects of the book. However, I felt that is was an asset. Perhaps, I would have seen some of the add ins in a different light; but, all in all ... well done!!

    Hobbit Habit

    by qruzN

I read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings when I was 15 and remembered the story the way I read it -- I can wait for the second movie but its going to be difficult. Definitely a Must Go for Tolkien fans. ?War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all" - JRRTolkien

    It's ok

    by

If you saw the Lord of the Ring series then for sure you will want to see the Hobbit. The movie starts on good, as Bilbo Bagins tells a story from where he was young. We can say hello again to Frodo, it's a little nice addition to the movie. It goes on pretty good but after a 30 minute you starting to get bored. The movie has kind of the same plot as Lord of the Ring. There is a team of dwarfs plus wizard and hobbit who has a mission to accomplish. The fellowship gets attack by the orks and the movie is more lively. The ending makes you await the second part, and makes you wonder was it with it. It was good but it wasn't great!

The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey B-

Coming in with unrealistic expectations left me slightly disappointed. That said, part of it was just because of how good the Lord of the Rings trilogy was. If this was the first movie to be released it would have likely been voted best movie of the year.

The Hobbit suffers from the same major error The Dark Knight Rises did, under editing. This is a 3 hour movie that could have easily been 2 hours; however, both the story telling and the CGI were well done along with having great fantasy themes throughout.

Though this movie hardly lives up to the Lord of the Rings trilogy be thankful that you are alive to see perhaps the greatest fantasy movies that will ever be made.

    B-

A Magical Escape For A Few Hours

This is a magical piece. You get the same enchantment that we saw in the "Lord of the Rings," the same magical feeling we experienced in "Harry Potter," and the same feeling of magic and self worth that we felt in "Witch Lessons," by Puri.

You will definitely be moved. I would recommend this move for families and couples to see during this holiday break. There is something truly epic about this one.

worst part of the series to date

First of all, very disappointed that the movie is a two part story. Really, after nearly three hours you couldn't tell the entire story? Also, this had the least action of all of the Lord of the Ring movies. The action seens were OK but sorry, been there, seen it before. Arrows in necks, amazing escapes, some magic....good guys, bad guys....you know the rest....the good guys somehow escape and lots of bad guys die.
    Disappointed....
If this came out first my review would likely be different but being forth, sorry, nothing new here. My son who is 13 liked it more than I did.

Epic Movie that makes almost 3 hours seem to fly

This movie is an A. It is an epic movie in an epic series. The director Jackson delivers once again and the acting is superb. This movie makes the time fly and when it ends, you want more! Sometimes a film will have lose ends or parts that do not fit leaving you wondering why. There are no loose ends, no strange scenes that do not fit. The entire move is a Must Go. "nuf said!

    Well worth seeing

Middle Earth is as beautiful and spectacular as ever. Gullen\m was as good ans funny as ever. A lot of violence as all the movies are and probably to frightening for younger kids. I found Bilbo a really likable fellow. Funny at times lightening the mood. I enjoyed seeing some of the same characters from the Trilogy. Worth every penny to see.

    beats expectations

I was worried. I'm a huge lord of the rings fan, and I wasn't sure this movie could live up to the previous 3. It did and I can't wait to see it again!

Just as epic as its predecessors

    by

I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre. I read a review before seeing it that said it was slow moving, I completely disagree. Sure, it had parts that weren't action packed, but it was well balanced. The entirety of the last 1/3 of The Hobbit had me on the edge of my seat, as did every fight sequence.
As someone who has never read the book, but not certainly plans on it, I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't know if any of these characters I was already becoming attached to were going to die or not.
I very much enjoyed the new characters and it was wonderful to see some familiar faces from LOTR.
My biggest complaint; that I have to wait an entire year to see The Desolation of Smaug.
I would gladly pay to see it in theaters again before it's time is up.

    Great but drawn out

    by

The movie lives up to Peter Jackson's previous ventures into Middle Earth but draws out sometimes mundane scenes for the sake of making another trilogy. That aside, the movie was excellent and being able to see familiar faces and new ones was a rewarding experience, enriching the Middle Earth IP. Chose to see the movie in 2D however due gripes over the new 48 frames per second.

    Disappointing

The special effects were equal to those in Lord of the Rings (LOTR) but inappropriate with respect to the book. I fell asleep for 15 minutes during the 1st part of this movie, it was so monotonous! It's hard to be excited about a base hit when LOTR was a homer! There was almost no plot in this movie. Bilbo and the gang go to Rivendale, and then they travel towards the Lonely Mountain to try to reclaim it for the dwarves (Orcs usurped it and a dragon currently has the dwarves' gold). The plot barely advances but there is cliffhanger after cliffhanger, meant to keep the viewer's attention. But trying to make 1 book into 3 movies was a mistake, IMHO, as the entire production fell flat and left me with the question, "Is this all there is?" Unlike LOTR, this is not a movie I would consider seeing again, and I'm not certain I'll even bother to see parts two or three. I would rate it 5/10, unlike LOTR which was 10/10 and one of the best movies I've ever seen. Disappointing, to say the least.
