    Loved this movie!

I was so glad that I made the decision to go see The Hobbit already. It was really well done. If you're watching in comparison to the book, I cant quite say it was spot on, but a of it was. The scenes that were different, were very interesting and didn't take away anything! I loved it so much I want to see it again!

Good movie, but not for little kids!

    by

I have read The Hobbit and LOTR series many times between second grade and the present, so needless to say was giddy over the release of this film!

The Hobbit digresses from the books quite blatantly, while the LOTR films stayed very true. I don't see it as a problem, just something to note if you are counting on seeing the book-version on screen. It was beautifully done, engaging, and fun to watch besides some of the more gruesome Ork/Warg/Gobblin/Troll scenes. It is rated PG-13 for a reason. The creatures I mentioned above far surpassed any scariness I could have conjured in my mind, and it didn't enhance the experience for me. Some scenes (Gollum dragging a gobblin into his lair to eat him, shot from above) were very reminiscent of many horror-films. Not a fan, and certainly not a fan of the 6-8 year olds in front of me cringing and asking to leave being there.

If you are over the age of 12 and into the books or fantasy, go see it! Not as good as LOTR, but still good.

    The Hobbit

I saw the film this weekend. I have a suggestion for some of the movie "critics" out there that panned this film. Go find something that you're really good at and do that for a living. Stick with your strongpoints. Or, if you insist upon reviewing films, stay within your personal parameters. Leave "fun" movies alone. Yes, "The Hobbit" added content to make it what it wasn't intended to be, a prequel. Yes, "The Hobbit" eliminated many of the songs the dwarves sang throughout the book. And yes, "The Hobbit" was filmed at a higher rate. None of this, in my opinion, detracted from my enjoyment of the film. Simply, it was what we go to the theaters for. Entertainment. I was very entertained. It held my full attention for the entire 2 3/4 hours. And at my age a film that long would have normally forced me to the restroom but not this one. I will be seeing the movie again soon and I suggest, recommend, that you go see it yourself and stop reading or listening to any "critics".

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

    by sienko4

Having read the book several times I was surprised that quiet a bit of the dialog/script came from the authors own printed words.
Aside from the professional critics reviews, my wife and I really enjoyed the film.
I thought the acting was very well done and the story line was easy to follow for anyone who
read the book, but for those who had not the movie can stand by itself.
The special effects are excellent and the views of the middle earth landscape are nothing short of breathtaking.
All in all, a great way to spend your time and money. I look forward to the next installment of
    this epic journey.

Great Movie. Even better than LORs!

Terrific movie. They made a few embellishments to the story, but all for the better. The technical aspects of the film were unparalleled. The acting was great!

On a side note every seat in the large theater was filled. Fifty years ago, I was the only kid in my school who'd read the hobbit. Nice to see the world catching up.

    Beautiful beginnings

    by

I am a huge LOTR fan and am thrilled Peter Jackson is getting the opportunity to do the Hobbit. Having said that I must say I'm a little confused with the trilogy decision for this book. I think two movies would have done the book justice, without feeling so drawn out. Don't get me wrong, I loved this movie. As with Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy every scene was an amazing cinema-photographic marvel, felt comfortable and familiar with Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo and of course Gollum/Smeagol. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor placed in here and there, made the film much lighter than the LOTR. Overall, if you plan to see the other 2 movies, like myself, go see this. You will enjoy it!

    Not disappointed at all

    by tomit

The movie didn't follow the book page by page but it was still a very enjoyable and engaging story. The visual affects were amazing. 2hr 49 mins has never gone by so quickly. I enjoyed it very much and can't wait for the next installment.

A Definite See for those who grew up loving the hobbit!

I'm not the usual Tolkien fan- I like, but don't love the Lord of the Rings movies, and could never get through the books. However, I grew up with the cartoon Hobbit and read the book. I LOVED this movie. May not follow the book exactly (no movie ever does), but has the heart and soul of the book and characters.
1- if you didn't let your children see the Lord of the Rings, don't let them see this one. It very much resembles the Lord of the Rings movies in fighting and gore.
2- be prepared for an epic movie- very long. However, a lot of it is them leaving in the character development, which is my favorite.
3- be prepared it's only half the story. I had no idea. It's only part 1!
Lots of character development, the MUSIC, the FILMING, the weaving of a beautiful story! Yay!

    The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey

Follows the novel with some expansion and tie in to the trilogy of The Ring. Hope I don't have to wait a year for the sequel. If you have read The Hobbit, you won't be disappointed by this movie.

Too Simple, Too Violent (Nothing Left)

    by raycope

Too simple minded for adults (to put it mildly), and too violent for adults.

Don't get me wrong, it has many redeeming qualities such as very good to excellent acting, fascinating scenery, and great computer graphics but it just does rise up to the standards set by LOR.

Biggest thing lacking for me is character and storyline development. Seemed like there was always a visual gimmick to take or things where it came to plot breaks (e.g., those giant rescue birds sure came in handy to save them from the tree). And the only character you come close to caring about it in the end is Bilbo Baggins (and I'm not sure I know him that well either).

    The Hobbit

"The Lord of the Rings" prequel is a must see !! Many of the issues from the "Rings" are resolved and made known in this action-packed and superbly filmed and acted production. I cannot wait to the sequel of this outstanding movie.

    Beginning of another great series

I really enjoyed the movie. I am a Lord of the Rings fan so when this came out I had to watch. I do admit that the beginning was very slow and some musical scenes made me think of a Disney movie but once that subsided it got better.

    The Hobbit Review

I couldn't possibly disagree more with critics. I thought the Hobbit was a great movie. The acting, story, and special effects were all outstanding. The scene with Golum I thought was funny. You can tell alot of time, talent, and funding was put into this movie. I'm not sure how this movie couldv'e been much better as I read in many other bloggs. The cast and crew for this movie did as a good of a job as could have been done with this story line. There will be sequel to this. If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings series you will likely enjoy this movie. Someone stated they didn't like this movie because it is "too family oriented". Folks, this isn't a slasher flick, it is a PG-13 adventure flick, let's keep our expectations reasonable.

It's a good film. not as amazing as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but as a film in the world of Middle Earth...it is wonderful. Great to see with the family too.
