Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2011) - LIKED Rating

Pros: Artistic interpretation of one of America?s most colorful time periods/events, rich historical context, strong story/character and plot development, well-balanced genre distribution, fun & creative action choreography/scenes, beautiful cinematography, and genuine love for our dear President Abraham Lincoln. The story was touching ? the raw intensity of humanity, human faith, and what it means to be a friend, to be free, to live, to die it brings out emotions. Also, they did a great job of making Benjamin Walker look like Abraham Lincoln!
Cons: Not the best story background for the vampires. Although that also builds onto one of the film?s good qualities, I would have also enjoyed a bit more vampire dirty secrets . Also not a detrimental flaw, but there is not a great deal of eye-candy. But then again, it is a presidential film

Don't expect the book

I know the warning gets more and more obvious every time it's spoken, but don't go to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter expecting (A) the Book or (B) your favorite scenes from the book. The story is dramatically abridged, naturally, and in many cases it is changed fairly radically from the book.

That said, the movie was a ton of fun, and I highly recommend going to see it.

Far better than expected

It's basically Wanted with vampires. And Abraham Lincoln. And the Underground Railroad and the Emancipation Proclamation and everything else that goes with the war between the states. That sounds potentially mediocre, and I expected mediocre, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is a far tighter movie than Wanted (same director) and actually an awful lot of cool.

I was pleasantly surprised. The title is strange, but it was really well done. I loved how they tied the movie's events to the actual historical events. The slow motion action was great. I really enjoyed it.

This movie is great. It is all I expected and more. The story was well written, the characters were interestng, the acting was good, the photography and tone...well done AND the action and special effects were awesome. Additionally the setting gave you a sense of what the time period was truly like. The civil war battle scenes brought that war into life instead of being just an historical event. Watching Lincoln deliver his famous address at Gettysburg after watching 1000's become injured or die gave it new meaning. I joined with the characters emotionally at that moment. A great work of historical fiction that melded fact and fiction together. I'll never view Abraham Lincoln the same way again. He's now an axe wielding superhero to me.

Surprised!

This movie completely surprised me and has become my favorite movie of the year! As believable as any other Lincoln tale with great use of historical facts. I loved the character development and the fact that it wasn't just a gory vampire movie. Special effects were good except for the eyes of the horses in the horse scene. With today's movie standards for ratings, I thought it could pass as a PG 13 movie instead of R, although it did have one inferred sex scene. Well done!

Loved it!

So, my girlfriend and I went checked this movie out and I must say that we both really liked it. Now, it is a little far-fetched but very entertaining. It was action packed from the beginning and there was never a dull moment in the movie. The movie is based off of the book with the same name. We really enjoyed the movie and for us, it was just pure entertainment; nothing lost, nothing gained.

So much better than I expected!!!

I went into this movie with pretty low expectations.. I was definitely surprised! The story makes sense, and it actually seems plausible (all this considered). The lead seemed to do a great job playing Lincoln, and the rest of the cast did a pretty decent job as well. The action scenes were great involving the axe play. Some of the birds eye shots of battle seemed obviously CGI'd but they were still a lot of fun to watch. This is definitely an entertaining movie. Go see it!

Not Bad!

I liked this movie. It was very original and I really liked how they incorporated the vampire legend into President Lincoln's life and the events of the day. As long as you remember it's just a movie, and for entertainment, then I think most people will enjoy it.

Vampire Hunter

Saw this today and really liked it. Thought the acting was great and enjoyed the entire movie. Don't think the 3D would have added anything to it. I haven't read any critics' reviews so I don't know what is being said but I found it entertaining, suspenseful in places, with a little humor thrown in. Was never bored during the movie. I'd recommend seeing it.

And I still enjoyed the hell out of it! I don't see why it's getting so many bad reviews I mean it is what it is. I still enjoyed seeing Abraham Lincoln kicking ass.

I had first heard about this movie on the radio. The announcer said that he didn't want to like this movie because of the title, but it was a good movie. I totally agree with him. The title makes it sound like a spoof, a low budget blue movie. But it's not. It is a great movie with great acting and wonderful special affects. The big surprise was how well it meshes with real history. It is a "must see".

true to the book

a really scary and well done presentation that leaves one wondering . . . could it have really been that way? The acting was superb, the structure of the story dovetailing with history as we know it, made it believable! the choreography and special effects were well done -- Now I must see it again, to relish the parts that went by too fast to fully appreciate. Grumpy spouse who was dragged along to see the film rather reluctantly was still talking about it the next day!

Silly

This was just a silly, silly movie. The closest it came to serious was Rufus Sewell's portrayal of Adam, the vampire patriarch. It was, however, entertaining.
