Skyfall
Skyfall was not the typical James Bond movie, although it did possess all of the elements that have delighted Bond fans for the last 50 years: suspense, exotic locations, car chases, gadgets, beautiful women, and dry British humor. It also had a dark and gritty feel to it, trending toward the ominous right from the start, where it became clear that this was a "fin de cycle" piece (although I won't spoil the ending by commenting further on that aspect). The new "Q" set an interesting contrast with the aging Bond, and actually drew my younger son in because of this computer savvy newcomer. Revelations about James Bond's childhood added depth to an otherwise mostly two-dimensional character. All in all not a cookie-cutter Bond film, but certainly one of the more realistically suspenseful of the series, at least until the end when M16 should have sent in back up (particularly in their own back yard), but somehow forgot to in the the movie.
