    Half-step backwards for Johan HIll

After Cyrus and Moneyball, it looked as if Jonah Hill might play complex roles. Why did he take this script? Noah (Hill) takes a babysitting job that includes poster children for social issues--a closeted preteen, celebrity wanna-be and an orphan from El Salvador, a benefactor of U.S. military aid (just as OBL & Saddam once were). If a movie raises an issue, it's good to say something, How the sexual-orientation subplot relates to the gay enviornment around the drug-dealing villain is vague. The lost identity of the Brittany Spears wanna-be never emerges but the pre-teen gives up her make-up anyway. The most tone-deaf moment is when an oprhan from El Salvador steals an egg filled with cocaine (El Salvador is a key link in Columbia-Mexico drug-running). Coincidences or just a gutted script? The script has an interesting moment when Noah out-hip-hops hip-hoppers, but it goes into a fabricated Jack *** resolution. Easy, easy, easy. Noah is Seth from Superbad if Seth learned nothing.

    the sitter

I'm glad I didn't actually pay the see this movie because I would have been disappointed. It was ok. The previews on TV made it look like it was going to be a really funny movie. Quite the opposite. It did have a good message. Not buying it when it comes out of DVD.

so go sit for the sitter

if you were a fan of "the adventures" of babysitting" then you should go and see this movie. the difference is that all dimensions of the 21st century were input this time into this movie. the movie had its moments of drama, romance, action and foreseeable slapstick. i think it was a chance to sit down and enjoy a moment away from the stress of the holiday season.
the fact that children actors are part of a movie that contains drugs and violence just says much about our hypocritical society.

    The Sitter

A modern day and more adult version of Adventures in Babysitting. It was a funyn movie but I could have waited to see it on DVD. Jonah Hill was great as the babysitter, and totally believable in his scenes with the kids...how he was able to relate to each of them and gain their trust and respect. The little girl was hilarious, Rodrigo broke my heart with his background, and the other boy who finally realized he was gay was amazing! Definitely not recommended for kids though....this is not a family movie like Adventures in Babysitting was. I give this movie a B+

    Ignore the ignorant reviews

    by

The movie was funny -- not always funny -- but always engaging -- you're always wondering what's going to happen next. The kids in the movie were hilarious -- they did a great job helping Jonah with the comedy. It did feel that they were trying to go for several types of films in the movie and just jumbled them all in there, but overall, it was an enjoyable movie. It wasn't the most hilarious but still good enough to say you got your money's worth. Go for it.

    Jonah Hill is....

    by

Hilarious! Its a little weird to see him big but u forget all about that and bust out laughing at everything that happens. I can believe they got those three little kids to do such a good gob with all that was going on around them. I will definitely buy this when it comes out on DVD!

    Feel Good movie

I went for the matinee and it was worth it for the price since I had seen the only other two movies out worth watching. I laughed a lot but I don't think you'll leave the theater talking about it or remembering funny parts yet you also won't leave completely disappointed. It's everything you'd expect, a guy who thinks he's a loser finds himself babysitting 3 children and the night turns into a disaster but they all learn and grow from the experience. Just don't expect to be blown away by this movie and just have a good time.

    The Sitter

Went and saw this movie because it looked funny and nothing else was playing. It is more of a teenage movie but it kept me laughing the whole time. I actually think I will have to buy it when it comes out to buy. If you can watch it, do it!!

    The Sitter

The Sitter was ok; however I expected it to be a little funnier. Some of the scenes fell flat, while others were pretty entertaining. Overall I would give this movie B-. Some of the scenes were also very crass, which caught me off guard. So my final opinion would be that it was good, but not great.

THE SITTER- "Adventures in Babysitting" for the 21st century!

    by

Of course Jonah Hill is pretty much GREAT in every role he plays... But in this role, he was GREAT! Let me start by saying, THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 17. The opening scene of the movie is VERY adult themed(sexual in nature) with raunchy language.. BUT, if you are a grown up with a sense of humor and not uptight, you won't mind at all.. If you are or were a babysitter, this is definitely for you, as those of us that are can relate to many of the scenarios depicted, although there are a lot of "over the top" scenarios as well) There is much fun, action(of all kinds) and is just a good, fun afternoon at the movies! If you were a fan of the original 1987 "Adventures in Babysitting", which this movie is loosly based on, you will enjoy this modern day (but slightly more adult themed) version.

    The Sitter - Movie Review

The beginning scene was entirely unexpected, and it's not what I would see as the intro scene to the movie. This movie is completely hilarious, but there is a lesson behind it. Sadly, this is not one of my choices as a favorite. In my own view, the rating I would give to this movie is 3 1/2 stars out of 5 stars. I would recommend this movie only to the people who wants to learn the lesson behind this movie.

    Past time?

    by hero19

I like Jonah Hill and the fact that he is the star of the movie says something. We've seen him in support roles and he might inevitably find his niche as an actor but this movie is a good past time. Luckily I did not pay for this movie, but the movie itself was a decent past time. The story line has been around for ages, and for the past few years has been regurgitated through a bunch of movies.

Bottom line: If your bored or sneak into this movie, go for it. Also, I saw this movie with two friends and we were the ONLY 3 people in the theater

    A good DVD view-at-home movie

    by vaughng

This is one of those movies I enjoy watching at home in my jammies curled up on my favorite recliner. It was funny and entertained me but not theater worthy IMO. I usually save in-theater movies for the ones with great special effects like Iron Man or unless there's a really hot actor in it ;)

    The Sitter

I felt the movie sort of took off after the role Jonah Hill played in "Super Bad" pretty much the same type of jokes here. There were a lot of events going on which as a movie going person does keep you going. It was a lot though many story archs think "Scott Pilgrim" in that respect.

However it kept it funny and if you are going out on a date and you really do not want to pay attention to the dialogue anyway for the most part so you can talk about it later etc. This movie has many quotable moments in which to do that and bond over the movie experience later.

If I had to put a movie critic hat on. I would say it could have been more concrete throughout but you dont really expect that from a COMEDY! So enjoy laugh it up and dont be shy to laugh out loud!
