For "Oxfordians", In Particular---Not To Be Missed!

I just have one complaint about this film......I SHOULD HAVE MADE IT!! Not that the idea is a new one-----namely, that Edward de Vere,17th Earl of Oxford, is the actual writer of the plays and sonnets normally attributed to the the Stratford on Avon Shakespeare (there is AMPLE evidence to more than suggest this outside of what's presented in the film). The thing that ticks me off is that I've been telling people for years that I believe de Vere actually paid and hired Will Shakespeare as a "front" for himself as the writer. SO, SOMEONE HAS STOLEN MY IDEA. (and is profiting from it).

Rhys Ifans does a superb job as my hero, the earl. Other good performances, too.

The idea that Shakespeare's plays and poems were not really his but rather works from some other person or playwright. Theories have spanned anywhere from the real author being a woman to a nobleman who couldn't be associated with the theatre. This movie explores the latter theory as well as the political and emotional climate of the times at Court. While not strictly historically accurate, this film is very entertaining. The acting is perfection and this may well be the best role that Rhys Ifans has ever had the pleasure of acting. If you love Elizabethan or Tudor Drama then you will enjoy this film. The cinematography and effects are beautiful and make this film well worth seeing on the big screen. As for rating, there are sexual situations, inuendo and adult situations so it's not appropriate for young children up to early teens.
