    Not for everyone..

...But for those that enjoy the gritty splatter comics from the 80's and 90's you MUST see this movie. The overall tone and visual style is awesome. The plot is honest and doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is. It's a fun movie for those enjoy things on the darker, grittier and more visceral side of the fence.

    Honestly... It was amazing!

    by Yuk1soN

I went to see Looper instead of Dredd, which proved to be a big mistake. Dredd was absolutely brilliant! Admittedly, while it may not be the ideal movie for a date, I was thoroughly impressed with the film's simplicity and directness, because it actually worked... Not to mention the fantastic costumes and effects. I was just loving those "slo-mo" shoot out scenes, and I also really appreciated the modern soundtrack, it was banging and went well with the action.

    Dredd was GREAT!

Judge Dredd (1995) didn't get it right, not even close. Dredd (2012) does, and does it well. The action was gritty and not in stupid slow motion, the blood was real and not crappy CG, Urban is Dredd moreso than Stallone's will ever be. It's a shame that most people are not seeing this movie because of the comparsions of the Raid; don't compare the two movies. Raid was released before Dredd, but it was made after Dredd was completed. Any similar ideas are literally coincidental.

Go see Dredd, 2D or 3D. 3D was great. This is a great movie in story, from the actors, and how it's shot. Please stop comparing it to the Raid, PLEASE! And please god, see this than seeing stupid films like House at the End of the Street. Critics saying HatES is a good movie aren't to be trusted.

    See Dredd! "I'am the Law"

    Excellent Movie!

I was hoping for a sequel about thirty minutes into the movie. It was well done, and delivered exactly what it seemed to promise: A Judge Dredd movie that doesn't suck.

There wasn't a whole lot in the way of story, but sometimes a simple story is far more effective than a complicated one. This was one of those times.

    Did not dread the "Dredd"

    by

I a enjoyed this movie even though it seemed to drag in a few parts. I though the clairvoyant should have been more active but what she did, she did well. I will see it again when it comes to TV. Definitely not for children!

    Entertaining....wait for dvd release.

    by

The story was okay. The characters were forgettable, except maybe Mama. The violence was gratuitous. It wasn't awful. It was moderately fun and entertaining. Meh. Don't expect a thrill ride like Sherlock Holmes or Batman or a story with twists and turns.

    Somewhat good, somewhat bad...

    by

Ok. Here's what most people seem to be missing. This movie was clearly designed for the male audience. Yep. If you're a girl - you won't love this one. It's all blood, gore, and more blood and gore. It's nothing like the raid so ignore those guys. Basically, you've got criminals, very blood thirsty ones, and he's going in to judge and boy does he ever. I didn't mind the movie in that it stayed true to the Judge Dredd personality. But, I really missed seeing the actors face and it's never, ever seen in any moment of the film. The whole movie is pretty much a shoot em up with tons of big guns, gore, and weapons. The slow mo was interesting the first time around, but then it was repeated and repeated and repeated....which got boring pretty darn quickly. I give it a so-so rating as it needed a bit more emotion. They got the action part right but needed a better actress to complement Dredd. She was as flat as Kristen Stewart. Sad...but true. I didn't mind the set as that was well done.

    DREDD

This is indeed a violent and bloody film. It's way over the top in graphic detailed killing scenes. However, I thought that the slow-motion scenes were excellent. The special effects were good (not great) and the acting was also only good, not great. The story line was very good and the film actually had a good plot. Because of the fact that the screenplay writer provided an excellent script, the director was able to follow it and do a fine job of direction in the film. If you are the least bit queasy then DO NOT go to this one, nor rent it when comes out on DVD. I gave it a so/so review because of excessive use of the F word and the over the top graphic killing sequences.

    Over delivered!

    by

I thought it was going to be a high res version of some sci-fi channel crap, but I was blown away! It wasn't cheesy, it's wasn't bland, or too brainless killing-ish. It was solid, the characters were good, the plot held water, and the action was superb.

I honest thought this would royally suck, but was very very happily surprised!

    Dredd 3D

    by bdory

I loved it!!!! It was wonderful. I think they did a great job with the story. No cheesy body armor like the 1st. The action, special effects, & even the 3D was very well done. Yes it does rate the rated R but how they shot it kept the gore from being so shocking. And what can I say about Karl Urban. Such a hotty while playing a bad***!!!!!!

    Dredd-full Fun

This was a fun Friday night date movie with my action-movie loving husband. The movie opened and quickly established the world that we were about to enter- an America where law-enforcement is also the judge and executioner if warranted. Happily, our lead character, Judge Dredd, was really cute. He's a manly man, obviously well muscled under his tightly fitting armor uniform, with a strong chin and mouth which are the only parts of his face that we can ever see. It's amazing how emotive that half face can be. I'm not usually a big fan of car chases or that type of thing, but the motorcycle pursuit of "bad guys "was exciting. Weird! The special effects were super gross, and the moviemakers had an obsession with gooshy boneless bags of goo that were former people. Not for the squeamish. I found this movie to be very entertaining, and I left the theater happy that I had spent the extra money for the 3-D.

    Awesome

    by

If yo're going to be entertained, you will be. Solid action movie. Amazing special effects that just put you in awe. It's awesome. Story was alright, but it didn't even need one really. Kept me in the whole time. I'll be excited if they make more of these.

This is an extremely good/intense action movie

Like I said, this movie succeeds in what in sets out to do. It's not meant to be some complicated thriller that aims to make you think a lot. It's a straight up, in your face action movie loaded with tons of action and violence/explosions/imaginative ways to destroy the bad guys.
The plot is fairly simple, the beginning of the movie has a couple dragging moments but doesn't detract from the movie because these moments are basically background and explaining the plot.
Anyway, Karl Urban is superb as Dredd and his psychic sidekick Judge humanizes and even adds to the story some.
The villain is one of the most evil people I've seen in a movie for quite some time. Yes, there are some extremely gorey scenes but this movie is fueled by the good guys killing the bad guys and it's rated R (so that should say something).

Bottom line: This movie deserves more credit than the critics give it and I loved it. A bit of a cross between Robocop and Diehard with a uniqueness of it's own.
