    Surprisingly Entertained

    by bgernux

I don't normally review films, and had no intention of seeing Dredd in the theater, but after randomly seeing it this weekend I was very impressed. I am a comic book reader, but HAVE NEVER READ Judge Dredd comics before. I saw the 1995 film a long time ago, but was never interested enough in it to even remotely care about this reboot of the franchise. However, it was very stylish. Good soundtrack. Good action. Lots of style (a few times maybe excessive). I was very entertained and would like to see future sequels.

    Honestly... It was amazing!

    by Yuk1soN

I went to see Looper instead of Dredd, which proved to be a big mistake. Dredd was absolutely brilliant! Admittedly, while it may not be the ideal movie for a date, I was thoroughly impressed with the film's simplicity and directness, because it actually worked... Not to mention the fantastic costumes and effects. I was just loving those "slo-mo" shoot out scenes, and I also really appreciated the modern soundtrack, it was banging and went well with the action.

    Dredd-full Fun

This was a fun Friday night date movie with my action-movie loving husband. The movie opened and quickly established the world that we were about to enter- an America where law-enforcement is also the judge and executioner if warranted. Happily, our lead character, Judge Dredd, was really cute. He's a manly man, obviously well muscled under his tightly fitting armor uniform, with a strong chin and mouth which are the only parts of his face that we can ever see. It's amazing how emotive that half face can be. I'm not usually a big fan of car chases or that type of thing, but the motorcycle pursuit of "bad guys "was exciting. Weird! The special effects were super gross, and the moviemakers had an obsession with gooshy boneless bags of goo that were former people. Not for the squeamish. I found this movie to be very entertaining, and I left the theater happy that I had spent the extra money for the 3-D.

    Dredd was GREAT!

Judge Dredd (1995) didn't get it right, not even close. Dredd (2012) does, and does it well. The action was gritty and not in stupid slow motion, the blood was real and not crappy CG, Urban is Dredd moreso than Stallone's will ever be. It's a shame that most people are not seeing this movie because of the comparsions of the Raid; don't compare the two movies. Raid was released before Dredd, but it was made after Dredd was completed. Any similar ideas are literally coincidental.

Go see Dredd, 2D or 3D. 3D was great. This is a great movie in story, from the actors, and how it's shot. Please stop comparing it to the Raid, PLEASE! And please god, see this than seeing stupid films like House at the End of the Street. Critics saying HatES is a good movie aren't to be trusted.

    See Dredd! "I'am the Law"

    Over delivered!

    by

I thought it was going to be a high res version of some sci-fi channel crap, but I was blown away! It wasn't cheesy, it's wasn't bland, or too brainless killing-ish. It was solid, the characters were good, the plot held water, and the action was superb.

I honest thought this would royally suck, but was very very happily surprised!

    Doodle + a review!

    by

I'm trying something a bit different to the other reviewers out there: a pithy review + a doodle! I've got a few up so far, including one of the unfairly overlooked 'Dredd'. If you're interested hunt me down on: @SketchyReviews on twitter.

Thoughts/ruminations/random (ideally uncouth) comments, are welcome.

    Dredd-Must See

    by Nemezez

This is what the movie should have been! It sticks to the original graphic novel and takes away any limits, hence the R rating. I'll be seeing it again and buying the DVD!

    Best action movie of 2012

    by Adam-12

I have seen this twice so far, once in 3D and another time in 2D. One of the best action movies I have seen this year. Forget all about the Stallone film and go see this, you will not be disappointed. Karl Urban is fast becoming a favorite of mine.

Kiddies stay away, as this film is brutal in its delivery and very gory. It earned its R rating and I walked away satisfied.

Please, please, please let there be a sequel.

    I AM THE LAW!

Go see it! It was a great movie and i really enjoyed spending two hours watching this flick. I love the whole futurastic theme to it, and it had plenty of high flying action to keep everyone entertained. Karl Urban plays the one and only judge Dredd, and he did not dissapoint. If you enjoyed the original, you will love this one. Dredd and his new partner in crime must battle a ruthless woman who is hell bent on taking over the city with a new mind altering drug. Dredd will not stop for anyone, and will do everything in his power to take this woman down. Go check it out, one of the best movies i have seen. Fans of "Total Recall" will love "Dredd" !!!! Fun times for all. Not for kids with all the blood and language.

    Hamburger anyone?.

I am someone who actually enjoyed Judge Dredd 01 This one was The Fugitive meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The sight of a bullet going through someone's face at Mythbuster's high speed camera speeds? Eeeeww*** The wife spent most of her time with her face in my shoulder. Dinner after? Ergh.

    Dredd Action Packed

When I see a film from Lionsgate, I usually have the phrase "action packed" come to mind. Dredd definitely did the phrase justice. From beginning to end, Dredd's action sequence keep the action junky at the edge of his/her seat. The brutality of some of the scenes are not for the feint of heart. Do not see this movie if graphic violence makes you queezy. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars in the action genre and a 4 out of 5 in the overall movie experience.

    Solid Action Movie

I don't know anything about comics. I do know Dredd has everything an action movie should have without any of the artsy angst that gets in the way for many shoot-em-up flicks, and yet the story elements are solid and relevant for people who care about backstory. I definitely recommend this for action movie fans.

Only watch it if you love bloody scenes because it's so disgusting!

    by Nobutan

This is the most disgusting movie I've ever seen. I don't like this kind of movies. It's extremely bloody, violent, and disgusting. The only reason I wanted to watch this is because I want to see its beautiful slow motion effects, but these effects just used at the wrong places, well for me. I couldn't stand to watch people's eyes and guts being blown out in slow motions, so I left without seeing half the movie. But if you can stand these kind of bloody scenes. This is a great and "beautiful" movie for you. But for me, it's a NO movie.

    Bada$$

Dredd is one of the best action movies I have ever seen. Karl Urban was perfect as judge dredd and I appreciated the helmet staying on. The fight scenes especially the slow-mo ones were great. Plot was simple but I liked it, and I am hoping this one does well enough for a sequel.
