    The Hunger Games

I did not read the book so I was not prepared for the level of violence. I did not enjoy this storyline but the acting was superb. I sat with my eyes closed most of the movie.

    Hunger Games = AMAZING

What a great movie. Stayed true to the book with the exception of a few details. The movie was intense and even thought I knew the story, I still cried and laughed and jumped out of my seat. My daughter and I are able to share something in common with the books and movie and I truly enjoy that! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!

    Great movie!

    by Donnarj

Rarely have I been able to say a movie is worth it's ticket price but this was worth that and more! The right amount of suspense, drama, romance, and social statement.
Absolutely go see it and don't wait for it on DVD, it's a must see in the theater!

Good futuristic movie but not so out of this world!!

The kids talk so much about this movie because a lot of them have also read the book. I was expecting something more exciting. You know....more out-of-this world type of movies. I guess it has to do mainly because of all the publicity this movie has been getting. Sometimes, too much of it, could hurt more because it creates a higher standard of expectancy from the viewers. However, it has its good moments as any other PG-13 rated movie. There were a couple of laughs scenes as well as several highly sensitive ones...

Out of 5; I give an honest and sincere THREE AND A HALF, but since the scale of rating on this system doesn't allow me to rate it at that level, I would mark it as FOUR (GO) and let you make your own review!!

Never read the books, this movie was still great!

    by sbd4de3

Great character developement, great story, great special effects. The movie can be seen without reading the books first, but it will probably make you read them after watching it.

    Disappointed!

    by

The movie did not do any justice to the book. It doesn't show how the alliance was formed to kill Katniss. The movie starts out similar to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but with out Johnny Depp. And what's with the long train ride, so very similar to a Harry Potter movie, to get to the place when it had space ships? HELLOOOOOO! And you have 8 people controlling this game of killing teenagers with a major computer....REALLY? REALLY? And in the end of the movie, now you can partner up with a member of your district, and then you can't, and then its OK.....OH WTF!!! And what's with the kissing thing. Just really stupid. I expected some real McGuyver things from every player showing their skills, and preparation. This movie was sad!! It should have been called, "HELP ME GAMES"

    The Wages of Violence

    by

I'm still processing the movie-may be for a long while. Clearly, if one is to be a pacifist, one must see the "Wages of Violence" in all their ugliness. "The Hunger Games" does this about as clearly and unsparingly as any movie can. The next time any President seeks "unity through war," everyone should have to see "The Hunger Games" to see what it is we are REALLY asking our children to become. Jennifer Lawrence is transcendent as Katniss. Woody Harrelson is a revelation as a past Hunger Games "winner," who dulls the guilt and shame he carries with alcohol. Stanley Tucci is pitich-perfect as the TV Host. Donald Sutherland perfectly bookends his performance as "Hawkeye" in M*A*S*H with a chilling performance as President Snow-a man who knows EXACTLY what he is doing by making children killing each other into entertainment.

This movie is tough to watch. My wife had to walk out on the battle scene that opens the Hunger Games "tournament" (about halfway in). It's not "fun."

    The Girl on Fire

I was reticent at first to accept the actress picked to play the role b/c I pictured her as much more of a gypsy with layers of rags and shearling and feathers. In fact District 12 was A BUNCH OF futuristic GYPSIES IN MY MIND BUT I BELEIVE JENNIFER LAWRENCE did a fantastic job and district 12 as a poverty stricken appalachisa stuck in the 1930's worked for me. Excelllent film. the shacky hand held footage is a bit herky jerky so if you sit too close, it can be a bit daunting.

    So Much Like the Book!

If you've read the book, then of course you already know what's going to happen, but the movie mirrors the book very well. If you haven't read the book, the movie will make you want to read it.

    Past 50 & enjoyed it

    by

I've read the 1st two books. I enjoyed catching the parts that were matched in the book. I was debating going to see the movie 'cause I've seen too many post-apocalypse senarios. Always soooo dark. Well I thought the acting was good and the pacing truly helped push the movie along. It won't let U stop & evaluate every little thing. I hope the next instalment covers the next two books. I'm reading the third "Mockingjay." It will be interesting to see what Panem turns into. Quite a comparison to ancient Rome. AND how Rome fell due to it's extravagance.

    Awesome movie!!!

    by PamKing

A fantastic movie representing the books. The move off left a few details from the books. This is a must see for all of us that enjoyed The Hunger Games books.

    Great Movie!

I loved this movie! Beautiful costume, cinematography and writing. I knew nothing about The Hunger Games until I saw this movie. This movie is not a movie for children. It is a movie for adults.

Good start to a great trilogy

My basic guideline for the worth of a movie is whether I would pay money in a theater or not. I rate this a go; the movie was true to the book, the acting was believable. I never had to forgive an actor's performance just because I loved the series so much and wanted the movie to succeed. It's not too gory, so bring along your older kids without worry. Unlike many movies, Hunger Games tries to represent the terrible violence more as a dream with flashes of violence you sense, not live. This may not work for those of you that have to have your daily dose of violence, but if I were to live this story, I would rather think of it as a bad dream as a coping mechasnism for what you can only imagine the characters would feel and experience.
