Not too bad! Lots of action and adventure!

This movie wasn't too bad; I did like it as it had lots of action and adventure, especially since it came from a fairytale (Jack and the Beanstalk). The giants were also pretty gruesome and gross looking. The movie ended as a fairytale would end; Jack and the princess got married, had two children, and lived happily ever after. All in all, it was a good movie and I would recommend it for family viewing.

    A fun romp

Okay so this wasn't a deep thinking movie. It was fun, had some good humor in it. It used terrific special effects. It's worth seeing because it is fun.

thought the movie and special effects were very entertaining. I took my three grand kids (ages 4-6) and found it to be a bit fearful at times. They said they were not afraid but their reactions told a different story. The acting was enjoyable but no Oscar nominees in this one. The ending was an unexpected twist. I enjoyed it.

    Take it or leave it

However, there are some good special effects that would probably be great in 3-D. Overall-wait for it to come out on Netflix or Redbox.

Awesome princess and her hero story

Without giving the movie away my 10 yr old daughter LOVED it and the ending! It was action packed for boys with just enough to make it a little gross. But it also had a princess love story attached to make him motivated enough to do anything to keep her from harm for the girls. We missed the beginning so we will be seeing it again!

    Jack the Giant Slayer

I thought it was disgusting, especially when the giants eat off the heads and killed the people.
This is not for children any age. The children at the movie were so frightened they left the theater.
Will tell my friends not to see it. Was to gruesome.
The acting was O.K. The Cinematography was O.K.

Happily surprised at how good this was!

We ended up seeing this movie because it's just a really bad weekend for movies, but this actually delivered! I thought it was entertaining throughout. There was a lot of action the entire movie, and I feel fairly confident that its one of the most entertaining movies out this weekend. Overall, I thought it was pretty good!

Fun Movie, would take my nieces to it.

    by

The movie had some mild violence, but over all was a fun ride. It was worth the money to go out and see it, the effects were incredible.

My wife and I loved this movie!

    by

Okay, what the heck are the people giving this a low rating looking for? The story is cool, the acting is excellent, Ewan McGregor is fantastic, the GIANTS are done very well, and the two hours fly by ... so in short, this is a great movie to pass a couple of hours with. We saw it in 3D, and while there wasn't a ton of crazy 3D stuff in it, it's kind of hard to compare unless you see it without the glasses, too. So all in all, a GO SEE movie. Don't let the idiots who look soley for 3D effects and even MORE CGI depress you. The beanstalk alone was fantastic CGI.

Well done retelling of the archetypal Hero's Journey!

Very well done. Saw in 3D but would have been just as happy to see it in 2D, it was a timing issue. We all liked it a lot!
Great retelling of one of the great mythological themes. It was good to see an updated rendition of this fine classic, they did it very well in our opinion. There were enough plot twists to keep it interesting.

I guess the jaded critics never read or watched the late great Joseph Campbell, who taught anthropology at Sara Lawrence & wrote many outstanding volumes including HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES, also POWER OF MYTH etc, which was also a PBS video series on Cosmological Archetypes years ago with Bill Moyers interviewing Campbell at the Skywalker Ranch. Some of the most worthwhile work ever done in bringing to life the real importance of the stories such as this, that depict the HERO'S JOURNEY..
When people of all ages forget Legends, folklore & Fairy Tales, they are missing a larger point.

Was not expecting it to be a good movie, so i was told by critics of the movie, I shoud know better, it was a great movie. Good special effects and it was close to the story as possible. Will go see it again with my grandkids.

    An ok..... Movie

Everything about this movie was just ok. The acting was decent but not overly exciting. The story was predictable and the characters a bit flat. It is worth a watch as a rental not the IMAX 3-D price (18 bucks).

    Fee Fi Fo FUN!

    by pedsarq

What a ride! This is a different kind of Jack v. Giants tail. It's an epic adventure of love and war between man and monster. There are plenty of complications to the simple Jack and the Beanstalk tale to totally entertain the parent while. See if.
