My 5 year old son LOVED IT!!

    by

I was a little concerned whether this would be appropriate for my 5 year old. He loves everything gross and creepy and he loves action, but I try to keep it within acceptable limits. I went to Jack planning to cover his eyes if necessary, but in the spots where I had concerns they mostly cut away from the actual shot that would take it too far. We both enjoyed the action and the humor. My son thought that the ugly disgusting wicked giants were AWESOME!! If your 5 year old is a dainty girl, she probably wouldn't be as enchanted, but for us it was perfect. It was a fun movie for all of us, we'll definitely go again.

    entertaining boring and predictable...

    by nngg

overall this movie is so-so. Yes it's entertaining and does become better than the first 30 minutes which were boring. The cgi was sort of cool but nothing we haven't seen in the past gazillion movies which have come out recently. The story however, was just so predictable, stupid, and basically everything about the story and plot fell flat. The acting was ridiculous too. So there is this ordinary guy who tries to help a princess in disguise, and has beans he bought and then they turn into a beanstalk, up to a land of giants. And the giants and the crown, and the fact that the king actually tried to cut the beanstalk while his daughter was still up was just strange. You really dont feel any connection or care to the characters at all and there was no development or audience connection. The actors were poorly chosen and the princess was just annoying. The giants reminded me of ripoffs of ogres from the hobbit. Yes there is a battle scene and it's semi entertaining but nothing great.

    Great fairy tale romp

    by

I am amazed that this one got such bad reviews. I found it highly entertaining and would recommend it for anyone who likes fairy tale type movies. They did a great job of weaving the story from the original and expanding it. Of course there were some loose spots, but it is a fairy tale. I had a good time watching it personally.

    Jack and the Beanstalk

I enjoyed this movie very much but if you go DO NOT see it in 3D--the picture is so blurry, you can barely see the scenes--I was so disappointed!! Now I have to wait to see it on cable because I am not taking the chance to go and have to pay that obnoxious price to watch it in 3D because the movie wants to make more money by having the regular movie stop playing at a certain time. Other than that--the movie, special effects and the love story are a definite go see.

Fun Movie, would take my nieces to it.

    by

The movie had some mild violence, but over all was a fun ride. It was worth the money to go out and see it, the effects were incredible.

    Great family movie!

    by

These are the types of movies I wish they'd make more of. I'm so tired of family movies that are too boring or moronic for parents to enjoy. I loved every minute of this movie, and Nicolas Hoult was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy, whether you have kids or not!

    Jack A ok fantasy

WIth all the new movies coming out based on fairy tales (snow white, hansel and gretel etc) it's only human that a updated version of Jack and the bean stalk to come out. Rave cinemas is not too good of a theatre, the only reason I go there is because it's $5 admission. Anyway, I got into a small theatre here with a crying baby inside in the 3/4 full theatre. The movie is ok, from it's leads Nicolas Hoult especially. The movie could have used a better storyline, save the princess/kingdom just seems generic. Ewan Mcgregor and Stanley Tucci do very good in their roles, but that doesn't make up for the ok CGI. If you're making a 195 million dolllar blockbuster, at least make the CGI look good. The ending is also predictable, but this a good update of a fairy tale bottom line.

A Entertaining Adventure, But It Could Have Been So Much Bigger

Jack the Giant Slayer is indeed an adventure, but it could have been so much better. The plot of film falls under familiar pretenses such as the reluctant lead who discovers his true potential by the end of the film. Very cliched but it does work for the film. The characters could have been stronger, but the performances were entertaining. There is a big world to this movie, but it is not really explored. When it comes down to it, Jack the Giant Slayer knows exactly what it is: a popcorn film. Thankfully it never talks down to the audience as this is kind of movie you can just enjoy. However, given the film's concept, you think there would be a bigger adventure behind it. Oh well, it is still an enjoyable movie.

    A Delightful Re-telling

This was great for any age. The special effects were superb! The acting was pretty good. The story-line stayed true. I will purchase Jack/Beanstalk and Hansel/Gretal when they arrive in the store. What are you waiting for? While others re-hash classics . . . badly, the re-telling of our favorite stories is within reach.

    It was OK

The giants looked too fake. Some of the action sequences were pretty neat. I think this movie works better as a rental than seeing in the theater. Not all bad. Sorta worth seeing I guess. but not worth the price of admission. Wait for video.

    Awesome movie.

I normally NEVER write reviews, but this movie is an absolute must see. Plenty of actions, awesome story, and VERY satisfying ending-- if you are debating on seeing it, and your reading this review, I'm telling you.. GO! It was worth it, bring plenty of snacks and drinks because it is fairly long too!!!

I would also like to comment on the costumes. They were cool. Most fantasy movies have dorky costumes. The costumes the characters wear fit each character appropriately and well, and the knights just look KICK @$$!!!!!

    Reminiscent of The Princess Bride

    by krenee

My daughter and I thought this film was excellent! It is witty and clever when it should be, dramatic and frightening at other times. It reminded us of The Princess Bride. If you loved that movie, You need to see this one!
