    Good special effects, well done

This is a great version of the old fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk. As long as it isn't seen as a deep life changing narrative which it doesn't claim to be, it's great as an entertaining tale.

Go for the charm and CGI, not the plot.

    by

To make things short, the movie was honestly very weird. It had a strange feel to it that took me out of it immediately. The plot was also just very strange and convoluted. But the charm and action in the movie were great! The characters were good (excluding the giants) and the CGI action sequences were well done.

    Fun, entertaining and well-made

    by

This was a surprisingly good movie. The acting, visuals, and characters were all high quality, there was plenty of action without it being gratuitous, and all in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable time. I say surprisingly good because going into it, I wondered - how good can a movie about Jack and the Beanstalk really be? Well, I got my answer, and it was "pretty damn good".

    Great fairy tale romp

    by

I am amazed that this one got such bad reviews. I found it highly entertaining and would recommend it for anyone who likes fairy tale type movies. They did a great job of weaving the story from the original and expanding it. Of course there were some loose spots, but it is a fairy tale. I had a good time watching it personally.

Jack the Giant Slayer - a snoozer

Took our 14 y/o son to see Jack and I fell asleep in the first 15 mins. Wife and son also thought it was not very good. Save you $ and rent on Redbox. It's worth $1.50 for the family. Just get comfortable for a good nap :).

    A Delightful Re-telling

This was great for any age. The special effects were superb! The acting was pretty good. The story-line stayed true. I will purchase Jack/Beanstalk and Hansel/Gretal when they arrive in the store. What are you waiting for? While others re-hash classics . . . badly, the re-telling of our favorite stories is within reach.

    Jack A ok fantasy

WIth all the new movies coming out based on fairy tales (snow white, hansel and gretel etc) it's only human that a updated version of Jack and the bean stalk to come out. Rave cinemas is not too good of a theatre, the only reason I go there is because it's $5 admission. Anyway, I got into a small theatre here with a crying baby inside in the 3/4 full theatre. The movie is ok, from it's leads Nicolas Hoult especially. The movie could have used a better storyline, save the princess/kingdom just seems generic. Ewan Mcgregor and Stanley Tucci do very good in their roles, but that doesn't make up for the ok CGI. If you're making a 195 million dolllar blockbuster, at least make the CGI look good. The ending is also predictable, but this a good update of a fairy tale bottom line.

    JACK the GIANT KILLER

What a joy to watch this movie. We all know the storyline. This is an updated version for sure. The CGI is spectacular and the cinematography is fantastic as well. The director did a fine job of keeping the film moving along and at a great pace. The acting was good; boarding on excellent in parts. I was indeed entertained and will go see it again. Do yourself a great big favor and treat yourself to a wonderful night at the movies with this one. The giants are super, super excellent, you have to see this one. No cussing, sex or crude bloody violence. I will look for awards in the future given to this film for many reasons.

    Great family movie!

    by

These are the types of movies I wish they'd make more of. I'm so tired of family movies that are too boring or moronic for parents to enjoy. I loved every minute of this movie, and Nicolas Hoult was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy, whether you have kids or not!

    Great movie

    by

This is a great new take on the old story. I can't rate the 3D as I saw the normal 2D but I was thoroughly entertained. The effects are wonderful you feel immersed in the land of giants without being beaten over the head with it or having small issues break the illusion. The performances of Ewan McGregor are wonderfully entertaining and the plot doesn't try to be something it's not nor does it dumb everything down.

    fun fantasy film

I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, but I was pleasantly surprised. Thought it was going to be a kids movie, but actually it was good for older kids like me ;-) It had great special effects, pretty good action & story line, an interesting update to the old fairy tale.....the acting was well done, I really enjoyed it.

    Worth It

    by esad272

I wasn't certain that I wanted to actually see this one, but after going, I'm quite glad I did. It wasn't conventional, it made the entire theater gasp and laugh together, and I would definitely take my children to see it.
