    Great visuals,

Definitely enjoyed the film for kids. Amazing effects for the beanstalk and the giants, and the interplay with regular people, so it's much more engaging visually than purely animated films like Croods. The giants are definitely menacing at times early on. A 7 year old got a bit nervous. The story is complex enough but there was only one deeper virtuous theme that I could see: Jack, despite his humble origins, steps up big-time. So, not quite as deep as Oz. The princess role was well-acted. The human villain and lead knight were more comic book-like.
Overall, a fun night out for the kids. Definitely

Jack the Giant Slayer is Entertaining

Fun movie to watch with lots of action and great scenery. Nick Hoult is great as Jack. Ewan MacGregor is cool as usual. Must see film for the whole family.

My 5 year old son LOVED IT!!

    by

I was a little concerned whether this would be appropriate for my 5 year old. He loves everything gross and creepy and he loves action, but I try to keep it within acceptable limits. I went to Jack planning to cover his eyes if necessary, but in the spots where I had concerns they mostly cut away from the actual shot that would take it too far. We both enjoyed the action and the humor. My son thought that the ugly disgusting wicked giants were AWESOME!! If your 5 year old is a dainty girl, she probably wouldn't be as enchanted, but for us it was perfect. It was a fun movie for all of us, we'll definitely go again.

    Jack and the Goofball Giant

The movie was a bit goofy, especially the 2 headed giant. It had a fairly descent plot with some very good actors, but the special effects were really not taken seriously and it shows.

    My View

Over all this was a good moie. It had some real good action scenes, detoured a little from the story. It did have some areas that I think would not be good for little ones to see. Over all I would give the movie a 3 star.

    Great movie

This movie is action packed! I am amazed when people don't get that this is on the same level as ice age, bugs life, and monster's ink. It is not intended to be anything else but animated entertainment.

Good movie but many gaps and age confusing

    by

Definitely confused whether this is a child movie or an adult movie but it's stuck somewhere in the middle without being a teenage movie.

There's also a lot of unexplained things like no female giants?

That said, still a pretty good movie. Very creative, captures your attention, and the graphics were done well. Other than the gaps, very good directing and casting!

special effects with no emotional connection

    by

The character development wasn't done well, they were all flat unrealistic cliches of storybook characters. That plus the lack of any interesting plot unfolding, made it have little or no emotional connection for me. Special effects was the only thing going for it, but even that was typical and not impressive.

    Fun Flick!

The movie was a lot of fun! Good combination of action and a little comic relief at times to temper a bit of the mayhem. The giants were awesome!

Mom loved it as much as son

    by

I took my 9-year old son to this one and we both LOVED it! Want to see it again in 3D this time. Great action, great story, well done. I think it would be too scary for little kids but 8+ are ok for sure.

Fun for me and the little man

    by

I thought it may be a bit munch for my 6 year old boy but he loved it. The giants biting off peoples heads I could have done without but overall it was a good movie...it was a cool twist on a fairy tale.

    Pretty awesome

Does Jack the Giantslayer add anything to cinema history? No, not at all. It is a fantasy story, much like most fantasy stories, where a hero has to overcome odds, shortcomings, and any other issues to defeat some overwhelming foe. You've seen it in countless movies. Does Jack do it differently? No. But what it does do is have fun. If you're the type who needs a new cinematic experience every time you see a film, you probably won't see this anyway. If you like fantasy films, you need to see this. 5 stars, A, 10/10, whatever amazing rating you want, i give it.

    Not giant hit

While the movie did have great visuals, and some very good one liners, it was not as good as I had hoped. It was not a $13.50 movie, but would have made a great film on Amazon.com or Netflix.

    entertaining boring and predictable...

    by nngg

overall this movie is so-so. Yes it's entertaining and does become better than the first 30 minutes which were boring. The cgi was sort of cool but nothing we haven't seen in the past gazillion movies which have come out recently. The story however, was just so predictable, stupid, and basically everything about the story and plot fell flat. The acting was ridiculous too. So there is this ordinary guy who tries to help a princess in disguise, and has beans he bought and then they turn into a beanstalk, up to a land of giants. And the giants and the crown, and the fact that the king actually tried to cut the beanstalk while his daughter was still up was just strange. You really dont feel any connection or care to the characters at all and there was no development or audience connection. The actors were poorly chosen and the princess was just annoying. The giants reminded me of ripoffs of ogres from the hobbit. Yes there is a battle scene and it's semi entertaining but nothing great.

    It was good...

    by Niter71

We took our boys ages 15 & 12 to see this for their first IMAX 3D experience. They really enjoyed it. The graphics were great, story line was pretty good, and just an overall good family movie with older children. Some scenes may not be suitable for younger children. The only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of 3D effects. Not worth paying $15.00 a piece for; your better off seeing it on the regular screen.
