    Awesome!

This is a fantastic movie, from beginning to end. Do yourself a favor and see it in 3D, you will not regret it. Also, if you go to ArcLight, La Jolla, Theater 7 is the largest theater (which I found out in reading reviews). :D

... will prompt a redefining of Fandango ratings

    by Dhaark

Simply put, to say "MUST GO!" just feels inadequate....

Wouldn't be surprised if this movie prompted Fandago to add a "STFU & GO!" rating! And ....just for the record that stands for "Stop Trolling Fandango Unendingly & GO! ... at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

    New Favorite Movie

I loved the first movie, and I honestly didn't think this movie would come close. It didn't. It absolutely blew past the bar the first on set.

Where no Star Trek has gone before

JJ Abrams continues to rewrite the Star Trek universe to fairly good effect. Although it has a few good SFX set pieces, this is a plot and character-driven story writ large across the galaxy: Kirk struggles to integrate fallibility, hubris and greatness into a man fit to lead others where they've never gone before. Benedict Cumberbatch makes a deliciously complex bad guy and all the usual crew members get their assorted moments to shine. A few ridiculously goofy nods to the mythology are thrown in (a Tribble?!?!?! really?!?!?!), but this is very much Abrams' unique and refreshing perspective on this classic cosmology. Worth seeing, and worth seeing on the BIG screen.

    Derivative but worth it

Too much money is spent on these things for originality. The best one can hope for is not a train wreck, and this is a serviceable follow up to the 2009 film. I won't give anything away, but the "borrowed" plot lines worked for me, even if the current villain did not quite fill the shoes of his predecessor. The 3D was cool for a couple of scenes, but mostly it would have worked in 2D if you ask me. Go see it. As a bonus, there is plenty of Simon Pegg to enjoy (he does fill Scotty's shoes quite nicely).

Everything I could have asked for in this sequel

Sitting down in my chair as the movie begins I leaned to my girlfriend and said, "This movie will be action from start to finish. I promise, you will be engaged." J.J. Abrams never seems to disappoint. This film takes you and pulls you in all directions. I can be laughing at an undermining comment stated by Bones one minute and wiping the tears from my eye the next. The picture and set pieces are just mind boggling. I cannot tell you how many times I shook my head in amazement, but I expected nothing less from Abrams. The character interaction as well as the development they each have, is lovely to watch. The movie hits home for Trek fans more than a few times which still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. As the ending credits roll on by, my girlfriend leaned over to me and whispered, "You were right!" This sequel exceeds all expectations.

    Star Trek Set to Stun!

    by MedRed

A great movie starts with a great trailer that can get you excited yet give away as little of the actual plot as possible. Kudos to J.J. Abrams for the excellent set up and execution!

This movie had the right amount of everything...drama, comedy, seriousness, cheesiness, action, acting, cinematography, costumes, action (deserves a double mention), special effects, set design...everything!

As predictable as some parts were, other parts seemed to warp out of nowhere to great effect. Into the Darkness seems both familiar and fresh. Some elements definitely echo The Wrath of Khan even though this story takes place parallel to that one in an alternative universe sort of way.

This movie shows that the Star Trek franchise has legs and plenty of room to stretch them into future amazing movies.

The beginning of the credits has cool planetary scenes (especially in 3D). There's nothing after.
If you like my reviews, add me as a fan. I'll add you back!

    Star Trek: Into Darkness

Though this movie was good, as a movie, again, I was very disappointed in J.J. Abrams. He stated he wanted to make this film for movie-goers and not for Star Trek fans, well, he succeeded. As a Star Trek fan I was not pleased with his re-hashing old Star Trek scripts with his twists.

If you are a fan of action movies with a lot of special effects, this is a very good movie to see. If you like the philosophical views found in all prior Star Trek shows and movies, you will do good to miss this movie.

Serious parody or a parody of seriousness?

While an interesting action/pseudo sci-fi drama, JJ Abrams once again demonstrates his broad shallowness in the new Star Trek film. It is basically two hours of action, snarky comments, and blatant scene-for-scene rip offs of previous Star Trek films. There is nothing new in this film. But, more insultingly is that there is plenty of recycled material with so-called 'clever twists' that are meant to pay respects to the original Star Trek, but instead expose this movie's lack of originality. The movie tried to be emotionally manipulative at the climax, but failed when Spock uttered what was Kirk's signature bellow. So, half the crowd went from forced tears to forced laughter. The whole movie is a badly executed mash-up, so I was surprised they strayed so far as to cast Cumberbatch as the signature villian. He's a good actor, but he was simply the wrong guy for the job in a movie that was built on copying the past. Fortunately for Star Wars fans, JJ Abrams will be a perfect fit.

    "Shall we begin?..."

    by

Warp speed to your local cinema theater to watch Star Trek Into Darkness, a worthy follow-up to the 2009 Star Trek re-boot. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the Enterprise crew face off against the mysterious "John Harrison" (played effectively by Benedict Cumberbatch), a rogue Starfleet office with an agenda that will reveal itself to be something very familiar to fans of the original Star Trek series (and one particular Star Trek movie). Exciting space fight scenes and a thrilling chase through San Francisco near the end of the film provide continuous excitement. Peter Weller and Alice Eve also star.

For any Sc-Fi movie buff not just Trekkie's

    by

Man this movie was amazing. I love star trek all ways have. In my book J.J Adams made an excellent movie that Mr. Roddenberry would be proud of. If you love excellent Sc-Fi or star trek you will love this movie. It was a lot of fun to watch. It is a must see.

    Live long and prosper

    See it this weekend!

    by

I had high expectations and they were met. The official movie critics don't know a good movie when they see one. I loved it! Plenty of action, laughs, tears, and tension. The actors from the first reboot were excellent once again and Benedict Cumberbatch was perfect as this movie's villain.

Great Twist on a classic franchise

The story has some great twists and turns, and definitely delivers a fun experience.
Long time Trekies will be able to figure out pieces of the plot as it goes along (familiar names from TOS show up) but still delivers an enjoyable second step as JJ takes over.

Doesn't Live Up to Any Previous Trek Film

I may be the only one who was unimpressed by "Into Darkness." There were several rather large plot holes. The drama between Uhura and Spock was simply annoying (although it had a couple of comical moments, which would have been fine to leave in). There were far to many references to the previous films and most of them simply fell flat, adding no value to the story. The special effects were good, however they seemed to engineer in some extremely unrealistic situations for dramatic effect (I know it's a science-fiction film, but I've worked in ship-based engineering rooms and they went off the deep end in this film).

Into Darkness does have some good points. There is just enough comic relief (although the comic styling of "Bones" in this film is even more annoying than the previous film, and I didn't think that was possible. The special effects shots are extremely well done to the point you feel drawn into the movie. There is a good balance of character development and story.

    Non-stop fun!

    by

Trekkies and Trekkers, for whom this movie was made, will love it if they loved the first movie with the new cast (I know some purists were less than thrilled with the reboot). IMO, the story was good enough to not have involved a classic villain character, but it was extremely well done. As a movie, all the essential elements are there, and the cast are well chosen for their parts to appeal to old and new fans of the franchise. I'm not sure, however, if non-trek fans would find it as interesting, as there is so much inside humor and reference, which trek fans will devour. I would still highly recommend to folks even remotely interested in sci-fi.
