This is what happens when teen aged boys write movies

    by RustyPS

This movie started out with such drivel I almost left in the first 10 minutes. The acting was terrible and the only reason this movie got a SO-SO was the action scenes were great once it got started. As a former Navy man I was insulted by the way some of the Navy was portrayed. I can't imagine the Navy was even consulted on this movie for anything other than uniforms. On a side note the movie did use some real military men/women and kudos for portraying the horrors of war by having injured soldiers/sailors in the movie. This movie had potential if the script had been a little more developed and better written. Script and dialogue get a FAIL, action is Great and special effects Great. I guess as a way to stay out of the desert heat on a Sunday afternoon it served its purpose. Academy Award material this is not, mildly entertaining maybe.

    Problem

The "Hero" goes from drunken out of work felon to lieutenant, seemingly in zero time. That just doesn't happen. Other than that, I liked the movie. Had the "hero" already been a lieutenant and was screwed up for some other reason like a loss of a loved one or something, THEN it would make some sense.

I think Rihanna did a very good job. I liked her character and how she handled it. She stole the show.

    Dude! Where's My Car?

I've only walked out of one movie in my life and I was held hostage at this movie by the HIGH price that I paid to watch this in RPX which is a joke on it's own. This movie is Dude! Where's My Car meets Pearl Harbor and Jarhead. Liam!! We feel betrayed! His appearance time was 10 minutes tops. Had he been in it longer his career would have ended. Let me save 2 hours and 11 minutes of your life!!! Do Not See this Movie!!! If you must? Download it! Your Welcome...

Pearl Harbor and Transformers had a Baby

All the worst aspects of those two films are on full display here.
The only saving grace is that the action is more coherent than Transformers.

    A pretty good retread

    by

The title of this review probably sums it up beautifully, and, not to sound too much like David Spade, I liked it just as much as when it came out earlier and was called Independence Day, War of the Worlds, Battle: Los Angeles, or Signs. You know, the space-aliens-try-to-take-over-the-world-but-are-met-with-stubborn-resistance-from-the-earthlings type of film. We've seen it before. That said, becuse of its unique portrayal of the U.S Navy being the guys who make the attempt at saving the world, I was actually impressed. Pleanty of bombs, and loud explosions. Viewers will get a very good glimpse of various naval vessels and thier massive guns in action. Boom!

I was also amused at the homage to the classic board game when the sailors used a large grid using a letter and number coordinate system to plot their kill shots. Nice one!

And if that's not enough, Rihanna was pretty cute in her film premier.

    Battleship

Makes you hate the aliens, another boy gets girl movie, how he gets out of going to jail after breaking into the convenience store, who knows?? Honors our veterans, this is good. He winds up Lt. Cmdr at the end...I thought he was just a raw recruit, not an officer. Many sketchy pieces to this fanciful story, but if you can tolerate the discrepancies, then it's ok for action entertainment.

Won't make the Oscar Best Movie List but...

OK...I went into this questioning WHY Hollywood made a movie based on a Hasbro game and more importantly WHY was I going to see it. (I know, I know...don't ask silly questions!) I have to admit being totally addicted to things going BOOM and I got my fix in "Battleship." You can tell the CGI was created by the same team that made "Transformers." Overall, this has average acting by the real actors and predictable plot-line but honestly, no one is going into this thinking it's going to be an epic movie. I approve of director Peter Berg's choice to use real military personnel and actual Iraq/WWII veterans in the movie. The singer, Rihanna, debuts in the movie and delivers the most memorable phrase and was actually believable kicking alien butt. Btw, if you can't tell who the corporate sponsors are by their MULTIPLE product placements in the movie, you're either oblivious or lucky. Go to a matinee showing of "Battleship" and you shouldn't beat yourself up too badly for paying to see it!

    Well done indeed!

    by

This was indeed a great movie adaption from a game! I don't know what I can say about it that won't include any spoilers...so I'll keep it brief. Acting wasn't the greatest! Visuals were good. Excellent use of CGI! Plenty of explosions and military hardware. I felt as if they were trying to do a Michael Bay film (though his movies have WAY more explosions/military hardware in them), Ok..that's where I must stop. Or else I will start revealing to much. GO SEE IT!!

    Battleship

Loved it would of liked to seen more action with the Navy Aircraft assisting the battle ship. But a good sensory expierence along with story line of a screw up saving the day and the planet!

    The movie was good

    by emonroy

The movie was good...hmm Rihanna's acting was ok but she has a long way. The action sequences were the best and I loved the part with the veterans on the USS Missouri. Have to say my favorite scene was the last one with the anchor maneuver they used on the Missouri to bring down the last alien ship.

    Battleship

Funny at the beginning, then to much drama blah blah blah, on the time of the action, you can predict a lot of things from the movie. in the scale from 0-10 this is my rating... 5

    It was really good!!

This movie kept me into it from beginning to end with the bad *** at the beginning to the strong soilder at the end. I didn't expect Riahanna to be a good actor but she was. She did really good.

    Good movie! Go see it!

It was an entertaining movie for adults. There were a few scenes where the main characters were on top of each other in pretty provocative positions, so I don't think that's good for young audiences, but you be the judge of that. The vulgarity is at a minimum, but there are several times they cut to a different scene right before something pretty over-the-top, where you know what they were about to say.

Great action scenes and a feel-good movie :)

Thumbs up from an ole Navy guy

I went in not expecting much but had to see the battleship. It was great - not sure where the bad review came from that I read. Lots of action. The way they brought in the game board was fascinating. I read lots of reviews that talk about the ending being icing on the cake and I agree and won't spoil it for you. You have to see this one.

    Awesome special effects

Saw this in XD and the sound guys deserve at least three academt awards for this movie. This is an action packed, kick butt on the aliens movie that had the theater cheering. After starting off slow and wondering what the begining scene had to do with the movie, it soon clears up gets into high gear. Excellent movie until the very end. Who did they use as a military advisor on this flick? The only thing I will say about it is: You save the entire planet from alien globalization and all they give you is a Silver Star? Did the military advisor go hang out on the beach during the filming of the last scene of the movie and let the film crew just try and figure it out for themselves? Here's a tip for the next producers and directors of military based action movies; contact someone that has actually spent twenty years in the military to see if everything makes sense before you go to final print. Other than that one spoiler, I highly recommend seeing this movie, plus a BlueRay later.
