Cabin in the Woods is a great Meta-Movie

I really enjoyed it. i don't like gore, but it wasn't that bad. They cut away from scenes that could have been worse. If you like horror movies and sic-fi, this is your movie. Excellent writing and twists and turns galore.

    Awful

    by

Just plain awful!!!!!!!! Absolutely not what I expected the move to be like. After reading previews, I thought the film was going to be like I Know What You Did Last Summer. A zombie movie is not what i had in mind.

    "Meta" and "Wow"

    by

So hard to give this one a grade. Mostly, I'm classifying it as a "Must See". SO much going on. SO much to offer. Nary a dull moment to be had.

That said: I almost wish it hadn't been made as a "comedy horror". I might have liked it even more had it taken itself a wee bit more seriously.

The main adjective for the movie that kept popping into my head, when all was said and done, was "Meta". (I'll let you decide what to make of that.) But I will say that it struck me as writers' movie for writers. ...which I loved about it.

    Spoiler, this film is...

    by

NOT scary. I'm a huge fan of horror movies, so I was very excited that Cabin in the Woods was coming out. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. Because of the good, albeit vague reviews, I went in expecting a really well made horror movie, and what I actually saw...I don't even know how to feel about it. I could barely enjoy the excessive attempts at humor because I was so annoyed that my expectations were THAT off. I realize that movies aren't always what one expects them to be, but they seriously shouldn't have marketed this as a scary movie. I'm not even sure what genre this is, it mashed together comedy, sci-fi, and horror, but not very well. And were the actors in the "horror" section of the film supposed to be bad? Was their dialog supposed to be that awful? I'm 70% sure that was intentional, but then again, they might've really just been bad. It's not the end of the world, but I left the theater aggravated that I'd wasted my money and time on this.

    Entertaining

    by

This was an entertaining concept from the beginning to end, the whole time I was trying to piece together what was going on. I found the movie actually funny rather than scary genre the movie has associated to the name. Ending was weak, kinda looked like they just ran out of ideas. I would wait to see this until rental.

    The Cabin in the Woods

Very interesting film. At first I thought it was going to be one of those college kids go on a trip sexual adventure. Turns out, it's totally different. Really makes you think about what some people will do concerning their beliefs. It's really great watching this film in D-Box as well.

    The Cabin in the Woods

    by Pamdora

Great movie! I was not sure what to expect as I had not seen the trailer to this film. The cast was superb and did an excellent job keeping movie goers on the edge of their seats. This is not your every day run-of-the-mill horror/sci-fi film as it has a fresh approach using some modern day antics. There's also plenty of blood curling scenes and a dash of humor as five college students fight for thier lives and the salvation of the world. Moviegoers will find scenes that make subtle reference to other popular horror flicks and even a political campaign slogan if you're attentive as I am. It's a great movie that horror fans should definitely take the time to see.

    Hilariously Scary

Great movie. It's a twist on the horror genre that walks a great balance between humor and horror. Not as humorously terrible as Scary Movie, nor as terribly humorous as Shawn of the Dead, but Cabin in the Woods mixes both elements pretty well and I was thoroughly entertained! Perhaps think of Drag Me to Hell, except with a nice dose of Mary Jane. Not for every person of course, but a great movie to just sit back and laugh at while getting the creepies.

    Worth the Wait

I've been waiting for this movie for years and that being said, I was so worried that my expectations for it would be way too high. Thankfully I was wrong. The movie is a typical Joss Whedon ride where I was laughing at all the wrong places and my mind was completely blown at the end. If you're a fan of lame, predictable, mediocre movies, then don't go see it. You'll probably cry. But if you don't suck, then go see it because, once again, Joss proves just how talented he is and how his creative genius is so far beyond that of us regular human beings.

Not the typical "scary" thrasher movie.

    by rs94

This movie is nothing like the cliche teens being in the woods getting stalked by a killer. It's hard to write a review without giving too much away, so i'm just going to leave it at it was extremely different and i loved it. It had horrific scenes, and scenes where the entire audience was laughing. It was well written and kept made you wanna know more. You'll either love it or hate it, i loved it and would recommend giving it a chance.

    Horror fans must read!!!

This film is an ode to all things horror. It has t & a, gratuitous violence, foul language, and curve-balls galore. Just think of all your favorite horror films from Halloween, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, all the way to Evil Dead and you have a slight idea what's in store. Not a spoof film by any means, but quite original. Go see before DVD/BluRay.

For horror geeks with a sense of humor

    by

CITW is not a straight up horror film, but a deconstruction of horror films. The less you know going into it, the better. Bring an open mind and a sense of humor.

Very special type of horror film

If you have been a horror movie fan for as long as I have, and that is a long time, you will get this movie. If you are a fan of Joss Whedon (Buffy & Angel), you will totally see his sense of humor throughout the film. This is not the typical...............Oh no, someone is chasing me with an axe, then she trips and falls down movie, which by the way, they always make women look bad in most horror movies because it is believed that we "Can't run without falling down!" Enjoy something totally different.

An interesting twist on an old story

This was a complete and total love letter to horror movies. It has a very subtle way of approaching the genre, and it has an extremely well thought out story. I will definitely be seeing this one again. The action, the pacing, and the actors all play their respective parts with a zeal not seen in horror movies nowadays. For an adult of my age who grew up on old school horror movies, you will have to see how many references you can spot. :D
