    hotel transylvania vs frankenweenie

    by rosenay

Two top-of-the-line animated monster movies have come out a week apart, "Hotel Transylvania" and "Frankenweenie." Both Halloween season films are worth seeing in the theaters, and while each are ideal for kids and grown-up "monster kids," both are very different and unique in their own ways.

    Very Clever

Characters were very creative and very funny! I brought a 9 year child but really wanted to see it myself and am glad I did. The story was fun and actors were just hilarious in their roles! Music was great too! I think kids under 5 might get bored with the story after the novelty of the monsters wears off.

    Cute and Clever

My 3 year old sat through the whole movie. A few scenes startled him but the movie kept his attention beautifully. Clever, witty writing made it enjoyable for us adults.

Pretty Good Animated Feature for Kids and adults alike.

    by

It was a fun show with good humor and an awesome cast. No big scary parts or "too adult" themes for you to tip-toe through with the kids. A storyline that kids and adults can relate to and get behind. More than a few hilarious moments. Worth an early-bird or matinee price.

Good for kids, parents will enjoy

    by

I wasn't looking forward to this movie for myself, I thought it was going to be too juvenile for me to enjoy, but my kids were looking forward to it. I actually found myself enjoying it myself, getting into the plot a bit, and dancing in my seat to the music at some points. I won't be all jumping up and down for it on DVD for myself, but I'll be getting it for my kids for sure, and I'll enjoy sitting down to watch it with them again without feeling the need to leave the room every ten minutes!!

    Very Well Done

This film had all the elements of the perfect kids/family movie. The actors doing the voices were superb: Sandler, Samburg and James were at their comic best while Gomez made her character as cute as she is in real life. There were jokes that appealed to the kids, some that appealed to the whole family and even a few that appealed only to the adults yet remained subtle. The morals of "do not be afraid of things you do not understand" and "do not hate people because they are different" were apparent but not over the top. The plot was entertaining and constantly moving forward. Kids sat and laughed the entire time. Highly recommend.

I was nervous, but I LOVED it!

    by

I thought this movie was funny and my 6 year old daughter and 5 year old nephew LOVED it!
It's funny, because some of the reviews said this will not be good for adults, because there is no "adult" humor. Well, Thank goodness, there is finally a movie without underlying "adult" content! And if their was, then it went over my head too, maybe because I was so happy watching the movie. It was a cute story and a great moral of acceptance regardless of who you are, what you look like, etc. We are going to go see it again.
Oh, and I was nervous, because my daughter does not like scary movies, but her cousin loves monsters, so she said she would only go with him. The first time that Dracula does the mean face (you see this in preview), my daughter covered her face, and peeked through, but at the end of the movie said, Mommy I wasn't scared, and I got used to his mean red face. (they do this face a few times in the film) But other than that, she said it was great!

    Wasted Days and Wasted Nights

Hotel Transylvania has occasionally cute moments and intermittently interesting art design (otherwise, it?s mostly K-Mart Hallowe?en décor), but the story is trite, hackneyed, cliché, and any other words you can think of that mean: nobody broke a sweat on the script or on the plot. The voices are mostly uninteresting, except for Steve Buscemi, who attracts interest by demonstrating that he was catastrophically miscast as the Werewolf. The film is also aimed at a very, very young age group, something you might not understand from seeing the trailer, which makes the film seem about 10 times more sophisticated than it actually is. If you?ve got little kids, take ?em. If you don?t, you?ll fall asleep about halfway through the opening credits. If you do go, DO NOT spring the extra bucks for the 3D version. There?s about as much 3D here as there is on your average Etch-A-Sketch.

    Laughs All Around

    by

I took my four year old son to see this movie. We both enjoyed it. Very funny, and has a few of Adam Sandler's regular side kicks. There were a few parts that I felt were kind of slow. This movie is only an hour and 30 mins so my son was able to sit threw it just fine.

Okay for 2-5 year old children.

    by

My husband and I were not amused at all, neither was our 8 year old son. Our 3 year old daughter loved it and keeps begging us to go see it again. It had 2 or three funny lines but for the most part we were bored.

Great morals for children to follow...great movie.

I took my 8 year old daughter and her best friend to see this movie yesterday. Every time I looked at them they were glued to the movie. After seeing the movie they both commented to each other that they wanted to see the movie again.
As a parent I could not be more happy with a child's movie than this one. The theme for the movie was about a traditional value in humans and if a man and a woman hit it off from the beginning and are really attracted to each other then they should trust their heart and go with it. I really think this traditional value is very important for children and it tends to get lost as we get older in life.

Definitely a great movie for all children to see unless you are gay and follow some other set of morals. I am sure some gay rights group will be offended by this movie because it shows a man and a woman and their attraction at first sight and how to trust you inner voice as it pertains to the person you are attracted to.

    Hotel Transylvania

    by

This was a super cute movie for my two young boys. A great night out with the family and a good way to kick off the Halloween season, which happens to be our favorite holiday. I was also suprised to learn of all the big time actors that voiced the characters. Adam Sandler played a great Count Dracula!

    Hotel Transylvania

We loved it! We just couldn't stop laughing! More importantly, the chidren in the audience were laughing out loud too! After all, it is a children's film and if they were laughing...it must be good! Can't wait for it to come out on DVD!
