The invisible Aston martin in Die Another Day is, admittedly, still pretty darn cool, but it gets an equal number of groans from audiences as it does oohs and ahs. The tone of the scene is also rather silly, thereby diminishing the impact an invisible car might have had. A close runner up in this category is the ridiculous moon buggy Connery uses for a quick escape in Diamonds Are Forever
ok so anytime you make a list of anything, critisims and critics soon check in - as they should. best bond? i like brosnan but since each brought in their unique take on the character, each have their strengths and weaknesses. best bond movie? i still like 'goldfinger' for every and all reasons: that song (which is still #1 w/me, female cohort of bond's, gert frobe gets to be immortal as the title villian, etc. and the first bond film and plot - not to forget gadgets - thatviewers like me will expect in future movies of the same ilk. to me, it set and became the standard for ALL to follow including the newest, skyfall. this movie has everything !
Bonds in order: Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore, Daniel Craig, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton.
Best Car: Aston Martin DB5 (nod to the A.M. Vanquish - invisibility was silly but car was awsome ... and yes the Lotus Esprit)
Best Gadget: Jet pack - definitely
Best "Weapon": Gotta love OddJob's hat (worst - ANYTHING in Moonraker!)
Best Gun: pick between the Baretta 418 and the Walther PPK
Best Villan: Tie - Scaramanga, Elliot Carver (nod to Jaws)
Best Bond Girl: Tie - Ursula Andress/Halle Berry (worst ... Denise Richards - hands down!)
Best Song: Tie - Live & Let Die/ Nobody Does it Better/ Goldfinger
Worst Song: Toss up - Quantum of Solice or Living Daylights.
Hey! What about Nancy's Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice"?
Hey! Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" seems to capture the Bond persona perfectly! At least to me:) I'm sorry to say that Adele's song is instantly forgettable.
Best! Bond! Ever! Loved all the allusions to previous Bond movies and situations. Great settings. Great stunts! Gad, people. what is up with being so hard on the "new" Bond? It's a fabulous incarnation. I am going to be devastated when Craig becomes too old to play this part! :)
This bond was THE WORST, let me repeat THE WORST bond movie EVER... For the amount of time I sat to see this malarky, and the price for the ticket was horrendous. Not enough action, the bad guy was awful, and I was so mad, that I went to the bathroom, and got some snacks, and came back and still no action..
Shamille? Sober up!:)
Unless I am mistaken, the cost of the film and line for the movie has nothing to do with the film. If those are reasons for the movie to get low marks in your eyes, then your review is null and void. If you want non-stop action go watch The Expendables, movies don't need to be non-stop action to be good.
I am in full agreement with you. Movies are expensive and this movie *was* pretty bad. I don't think the problem was one of action so much as it was one of plot logic and a sort of general ineptitude that damaged the action scenes when you finally got to them.
When people make a movie with a definite set of well-known and well-worn expectations, there is a big difference between a movie that fulfills those expectations in surprising ways and the paint-by-the-numbers approach that killed this movie for me.
The jetpack actually existed and actually worked. It was powered by a strong solution of hydrogen peroxide as a catalyst that, when sprayed onto the catalyst, cause the hydrogen peroxide to break into water and oxygen. That is, *very hot* water that formed steam providing thrust that let the operator fly for a little while (flight times measured in the tens of seconds) before he had to come back to earth where creative editing gave the impression that something really cool was going on.
Agreed, in fact I just saw a Youtube video where Fox 5 had a reporter covering the story. True the guy knocked the reporter into the water by accident during take off, it does exist.
That is a different device. The thing in the fox video is actually powered by a submerged water-pump that creates two jets that create enough thrust to lift the user out of the water and, I think, drag the pump along.
It's a very smart device-concept. It has to be used over water and can only send you up a few feet, lessening the possibility for injury, but it isn't anything like the original, ubiquitous jet-pack.
Withe hydrogen peroxide, when the jetpack was flown over a crowd of people, all of their hair turned blonde.
Best bond and worst bond?
the best Bond songs are Let live and let die , For your eyes , All time high. And from Russia with love. i do think that the new song By Adele is a good one also. it goes back to the basic james bond sound that i loved from the songs above which made me love it.
oh and when some one says James bond. the first man i think of is The best bond ever Sean Connery. Best weapon..... A HAT. I wanted that hat,.
I'm still standing by my claim Denise Richards is the worst Bond girl...but then again, she could never act to save her life.
Personally I thought "You Know My Name" is a good Bond song. At least much better than "Another Way to Die." But the worst song should definitely be Madonna's song for Die Another Day
