Although 3D has sprung its multi-dimensions into theaters before (the '50s, early '80s), it is only now starting to take hold with audiences by the masses...so we ask, what's worth seeing in 3D? Here are 10 of the most worthy spectacles (as of early '10), starting with...
Beowulf (2007) - While Robert Zemeckis' elaboration on the ages old adventure isn't a film that holds up to close scrutiny, it is quite eye-popping in 3D (and especially IMAX 3D). You can feel the heat from the dragons' fire and Angelina Jolie's lusty ponytail-lashings, and while the warriors' machismo may be a bit over the top...well, just don't think about it too much.
My Bloody Valentine 3D was awesome!
And when it comes to 3D? If you ain`t seen U2-3D, you ain`t seen nothin` yet!
I don`t worship at the altar of Avatar! I detest all the groveling that movie gets. Due recognition to bells & whistles, a movie doesn`t stand on visuals alone. If Return Of the King & Avatar had been released, same 3D, same time, I`m sure King would have trumped Tar, Why did Cameron even feel it necessary to create "his" own world? Just because of Middle Earth, The Galaxy, and all of the redundant worlds that have been created before. For me Avatar was "style", but I was still hungry for substance when the movie was over. I did not like knowing I had seen the same body switching voodoo in The Matrix. I did not like Weaver in her role, she was miscast, because of Cameron, not because she fit.
Avatar was fantastic in 3-D, the visuals stuck in my mind for days. I loved that feeling of flying, and just being able to reach out and touch something. Alice and Titans could not compare, in my estimation. I was disappointed in both of them, and wonder if the visuals in Avatar were a 1-time experience.
i dont think anything will compare to avatar.talking about getting sucked into a movie.
Anyone know when Captain EO is coming back? A release date possibly?
I love,3D movies and,I really missed those days, when movies where made originally in 3D and were played in the IMAX screens, now they'r just converted to 3D,which is the reason I didn't care to see:Titans in 3D,I hated Alice in wonderland in IMAX,cuz is just a big rip off,cuz there are not 3D effects i hate that they Don't use the whole IMAX screen anymore, and it is true, B4 Avatar there wasn't anything like it,although,The Cirque du Soleil,Journey of a man,and The Hunted Castle, back in 2000,where good 3D movies and I think they should be on the list, those where real 3D movies where u actually could feel in the movie cuz they where played using the whole, IMAX screen.and in universal studios, Sherk 4D is better than T2,3D,but Avatar wins,
I thought Space Oddessy, and Lowel Thomas's Himalayas were great for movies shot on 3 cameras and viewed on a curved 180 degree screen. Seen in about 1964
Having been around for the first wave of 3-D movies,I generally agree with your selections. The "best" meaning the best 3-D process effects and nothing else.
Watch for Earth Day (April 22) for the best film for 2009.
I envy you. I am one of those people that can't view 3D movies without getting a migraine upset stomach. However, having said that, Avatar was a spectacular film that looked and felt like 3D without the glasses. I highly recommend it when Blu Ray comes out. I'll be the first in line. See you there!
Um, those are the best??
I don't totally agree with having theme park 'rides' on the list (see EO and T2) while these are early and excellent representations of the genre - there are plenty of "4D" now available at both Disney and Universal. I would include on the list, this past winter's Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. The 3D in that movie was exceptional and really added to the entire experience. Also ... while not originally intended as a 3D movie - every year around Holloween Disney release the Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D .... also and EXCELLENT 3D experience!
Take a look at some new and familiar faces in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings prequel.
A look inside the geography of Middle-earth where Bilbo and the Dwarves will travel.
