These husband-and-wife villains can shoot energy blasts that turn their victims to salt, as long as the couple is holding hands. It's sort of sweet, really – and terribly hokey. We're guessing that Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan would pass on these MSG-laden Wonder Twins faster than a speeding bullet.
Mr Mxyzptlk would be a perfect villain for Superman. Let's be real here, Zack Snyder made Sucker Punch which could basically be a Mr Mxyzptlk prank on Superman. Radioactive Gorillas, vampire bunnys, ninja zombies are all the sort of imagination that could be thrown out there. But the real reason Mr Mxyzptlk would work you have two comic con level imps running around today in Peter Dinkage (serious with a touch of humor) and Patton Oswalt (humorous with a touch of seriousness).
I think Toyman could work, if done correctly.
Doomsday might work. Granted Smallville used him, but he could probably be revamped for the big screen. I've got another to add to the "oh, please, no!" list: nuclear man from the 4th Chris Reeve movie. Speaking of something Superman fans would like to forget. As far as Superman villians go, "Kneel before Zod."
For a long-long time comics were written for, and read by, kids. Tsk Tsk all you want, but a Golden Age comic might have sold 400,000 copies, whereas most modern "serious" comics sell a tiny fraction of that. You think the early Superman was silly? His main competition was a copycat clone called Captain Marvel who was 100 times sillier. His main villain was a super-genius talking worm! Cap's lighthearted fantastic adventures were so popular that he was actually a lot more popular (and selling more comics) than Superman was! Success breeds imitation and lots of popular elements from Captain Marvel (and other well selling books) drifted into Superman. I'm dying to see Man of Steel as much as anybody, but lighthearted sillyness is Fun!
The vast majority of Superman villians aside from Lex Luthor and perhaps Brainiac are just garbage. Batman has the great rogues gallery of the DC universe. For Spiderman in the Marvel universe there are some flops of course (there are in every gallery) but his is far more impressive than the spew that comes from Superman's.
Superman's rogues gallery is wide and varied with lots of poo in it, just like other comics characters. Spider-Man had some really awful villains in the comics that should never see the light of day in a movie...
Mix-yez-pitel-ik, what's so hard about that?
