In case you've been living under a giant piece of coal in District 12, you no doubt know by now that The Hunger Games absolutely devoured the weekend box office, snagging roughly $152 million, giving it the third best opening of all time behind The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. Fandango chipped in as well by selling a whopping 22% of all Hunger Games tickets (a new company record), with the film also breaking Fandango's top-selling single day for any movie, besting The Dark Knight. So yeah, you could say it's kind of a big deal.
That $152 million was earned, in part, because of the millions of fans of the book, but also because critics were singing its praises pretty early on. The Hunger Games is currently sitting at 85% Fresh over at Rotten Tomatoes, and aside from a few naysayers here and there, it seemed to do pretty well with both men and women.
Of course, we want to know what you think. You came, you saw, you purchased your ticket and you experienced the magic. But before you run back to watch the film another gazillion times, sound off in our poll and in the comments below and let us know what you thought of this year's biggest movie.

The Hunger Games
I probably would have enjoyed the film more if I had not first read the book. As always, there is so much detail missing, and I thought some of it was important, e.g., time in the cave that would convince the audience of "star-crossed lovers"...don't see how anyone could be convinced of it. The arena didn't seem so bad, either. I didn't get the impression that being a tribute was too strenuous... you DID feel that in the book. Although the book was way more gory, the movie was still inappropriate for kids under 16. I sat behind 7 kids under 12. What is up with their moms?? I also felt the camera was too close and fast moving many times...I felt dizzy from the camera movement. Really good acting from all!
We loved the movie. Most of what was changed wasn't important, with one exception: Spoiler Alert: Peeta's Leg. Other than that, it was a fantastic adaptation of the book.
I've seen alot of book to film adaptations and this is definitely the best. I loved Harry Potter for sure especially with the fact it proved you can keep close to the source and make a good film but Hunger Games strikes some emotional points that are just amazing. It could of pushed the starvation theme a bit more but over all it was just fantastic. It made sure you knew the games were deadly and crazy without being grotesque or over done. All the actors were superb and I can't wait to see the other books on the big screen.
I think it could've been better, but it was good enough :) - I'm sure the next two will be so much better! Can't wait!
Epic adventureous movie with a stunning high calibre Casting: Jennifer Lawrence and other amazing acting-talents shined. Excellent movie The HUNGER Games.
The movie really rocked the big screen! I went to see it on RPX screen and I would love to see it again and again! The movie acts just like the books. I mean sure there were some altered scenes in there, but once you watch it, you'll want to go back again for more!
This is one of my favorite movie, should be one of the best trilogy ever. Great actors along with a great story. I hope to keep getting more from these actors.
I liked the movie but would not want my 10 year old grandaughter to see it. I'm a film buff and liked it enough to want to read the books and will see the next three films. The story line about kids killing kids is a little brutal and I am intrigued as to why the books and the first movie have been so popular. It is no Silence of the Lambs, nor Lord of the Rings, nor Harry Potter but it does have considerable cinematic merit. Film editing, cinematography, special effects, set direction, direction, musical score, costume design etc. etc. all blend together well. The acting is very good. Donald Southerland is deliciously evil , Elizabeth Banks deliciously quirky and Jennifer Lawrence performs well as usual.
This movie did a very good job with the Capitl costumes and sets. I of course wished they could've done more but since it was PG-13 it wasn't bad at all. I kinda wished they did'nt change some this from the book but that's gonna happen no matter what. Definately worth checking out.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
