M. Night Shyamalan is returning to the world of "scary science fiction" with an Untitled Science-Fiction Adventure that will reunite Will Smith with his son Jaden for the first time since the two starred in The Pursuit of Happyness (though Will Smith was also a producer on The Karate Kid).
Will Smith, M. Night Shyamalan, Jaden Smith
Cookie, you're really ignorant. The Wiz wasn't done out of jealousy moron. They wanted to make a more lively version. I suppose you're the type of person who think "The Black Community" should still be segregated cause "they" are so jealous of "you".
Don't try to make Hollywood remakes a race issue. 70 years ago, or whenever many of those classics were made, black people weren't even allowed to direct, or star in big movies.
As I said in my previous comment, I'm no racist and I'm not ignorant. Just stating facts. Remaking movies is fine but as far as the Wiz goes, it was directed by a black director (which is fine) but the entire cast was black with black songs and that wasn't a more lively version, it was a boring and more jealousy filled version. If anything is ignorant it's the movies like The Wiz and the remake of Annie with Willow and Jay-Z. If stating facts is ignorant then so be it. I have nothing against the black community, have good friends who are black and other friends with other races and backgrounds. So I get the fact that black people weren't allowed to do much in film but that doesn't mean they should try and reinvent a classic into their own.
Plus if you would have read the entire comment you'll know that I actually like Will Smith but he's starting to become annoying by trying to get his kids as famous as him which is never going to happen. So before you accuse people of being ignorant why don't you actually stop and think of other points of views, ya know, be open minded before taking the easy way out by calling someone ignorant just because they tackle a sensative subject. It's the 21st Century so let's get over these "sensative subjects," and call it as we see it.
I don't know why everybody is dumping on Shyamalan, the only horrible movies he's done is The Last Airbender and The Village, other than that he's been a great director. I think everybody is expecting all his films to live up to what the Sixth Sense was, get over it people, that was brilliant but can never be matched.
So other than those 2 films he's been a great director. I like Will Smith as an actor but I think he needs to slow down because the fact that he remade The Karate Kid was horrible, the fact that they are remaking Annie with Willow Smith and Jay-Z doing the songs just proves that the black community is still jealous that we make the best classics (The Wiz is another perfect example of that jealousy).
Pursuit of Happyness was a good movie but Will needs to stop trying to get his son on the big screen, frankly I don't want to see his son on the big screen unless it's something like Pursuit of Happyness.
First of all "happiness" is spelled with an "i" not a "y" refer to Webster, you do know what that is? Second of all the black community is not jealous but, rather angry. Whites have been stealing and riding on the backs of black talent since Elvis and before. Knowledge is a powerful tool get some you racist jerk!
Checkpoint: "The Pursuit of Happyness" is how it was spelled for the movie title. . .on purpose. I'm a "Brutha" that recognizes the difference between racism, bigotry, and we have to be able to call things out with accuracy. . .
wow cookie...racist much? The fact that anyone remakes classics doesn't mean they are jealous of classics being made by whoever "we" means. It could mean that whoever remakes classics are giving notice to those classics and they love them as much as anyone else and also think it is a good way to make money. plenty of people are doing remakes. it doesnt mean they are jealous, it means they got the rights for the story and love the story and believe they can reinvent it for more people to enjoy.
on another note i don't get the shyamlan ahtred either. i even liked village. maybe airbender and happening though.
Not racist, just stating fact. And if stating facts makes me a racist then so be it although I do have many friends of different color who also agree. Wizard of Oz was created and was a big success so what happens the black community has to try and do a better job with the Wiz but that only attracted the black community, same thing will happen with Annie and any other movie they try and turn ghetto. I understand why people do remakes but this is different than just some remake, this is Annie we are talking about who is a little white girl that sings broadway-ish songs and dances. So it's insulting to the people who like Annie for them to get Willow Smith and Jay-Z involved with a remake that will flop most likely.
The Wiz was definitely a more exciting version than "Wizard". . .according to me. Will Smith and Jay Z don't speak for the entire "Black Community" (whatever that is). Just like I don't think your bigoted (not racist) comments represent whomever "we" may be. Your words are ignorant. . .not you. Ignorance demonstrates that you just "don't know". The Wiz was a beautiful classic re-do/remake/retelling. Personally, I don't care to see this new Annie version. Question is: why CAN'T any group of people remake/retell a story their way? Other groups have taken "our" or other stories and retold them. . .with good and bad results. Personally, I don't consider "Wizard" a "classic".
Well the fact that you think The Wiz was better than the actual original Wizard of Oz shows how much you know. If you do some research you'll see that The Wiz was created specifically for the black community, which is fine because blacks don't have many movies they can relate to, however, it's insulting for you to say that it's better than the original which is so not correct. Without Wizard of Oz there would be no Wiz.
I probably won't see the new Annie movie not because they want to do a black version but because I don't like musicals or anything that is broadway-ish really, I was just using Annie as an example of my question: Why do we have to re-do a movie and just make it a black version? because that's exactly what it is.
I know your not racist !!! Cookie so i think your right it may just flop !! too much too fast for the smith family !! I didnt like the karate kid come on look at the original ya know ?I love you guys LETS BE COOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you gia421, at least there is one person who sees what I'm getting at.
lol, yes you are racist. But to keep things straight, you do realize The Wiz was written and directed by white guys, right? I didn't like it, but I wasn't that in to Wizard of Oz either, just not my thing. Also, you do know that the new karate kid was written by a white guy and made a 900% return on investment, right? Soooo, jealousy made a lot of people rich. Get you head out of your azz and realize that it's a business and people will do what it takes to make a dollar regardless of skin color.
No, the new Karate Kid was written, produced and directed by Will Smith, yes it had other writers and producers but the main one was Will Smith. Same thing goes for the Wiz minus the Will Smith part. No I'm not racist, I already said I'm not racist and like I said I know the truth, if you want to think I'm racist go ahead but you...are...wrong. People can do whatever they want for a quick buck but then people like me who call out the reasons for what the film industry is doing get called racist when all they are doing is call those people out. Yeah right, it's the 21st Century so all this "sensative subject," we need to get over. I'm no racist, I just tell it like it is.
Am I racist for saying that 91.7% of all crimes such as murders, theft and domestic violence involves blacks and hispanics? No I'm not, just stating fact. Why do you think there are stereotypes? There is always some truth behind each stereotype, if there wasn't then there wouldn't be any stereotype. So think what you will, I don't have to prove anything to you or anybody else, I know I'm not racist becasue I have good friends (might as will be brothers and sisters) who are black, hispanic as well as asian so whatever you want to think about me I couldn't care less.
When you make comments like "the black community is still jealous that we make the best classics" you come across racist. (I'm not saying that you are, mind you, just that you sound like it.) Unless you've confirmed this with every member of the black community you're making an assertion about an entire group of people based solely on race, in other words stereotyping. Just saying...
I actually really liked "Karate Kid" with Jaden Smith, and I didn't think I would. I originally thought that Jaden Smith was way too young for the role, and I didn't think that Jaackie Chan could do serious acting. I was wrong. I may have even liked it more than the original Karate Kid.
I can't say that I liked it better than the original, but it was ok. I was mildly surprised even.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Hmmm, you must NOT be African American, huh? Oh, that's 'Black" in case you were wondering. Perhaps 'Colored' works better? Nevertheless, it's unfortunate that your mind is sooo shallow that you would rather post a comment referring to race than talent. It's not about white or black, or at least it shouldn't be, when you go to the movies, but it's about entertainment. The Last Airbender was 'ok' and The Village SUCKED! The Wiz and Karate Kid was great, but I don't think I would want to see Annie regardless who was starring in it. Shyamalan does come up short with his films, and the world knows that, but on that same note, the world know that Will Smith is GREAT...PERIOD...well, maybe excluding Six Degrees of Separation.
If M. Night Shyamalan can't make a good sci-fi movie with Will Smith, then he should just give up and retire.
I just hope that this movie isn't too serious like "The Road". Now that was a depressing movie. I think that a Will Smith movie is best when it has at least a little comedy to break up the tension.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
