Folks have been itching to talk to Dan Aykroyd recently (first time in years, I’d imagine) since the actor (and writer) has been divulging a good amount of details regarding what we should expect from the third Ghostbusters film, now being written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (Year One, The Office).
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Aykroyd says the sequel could be in production by winter (assuming nothing goes wrong), and is excited by the premise of a new generation of Ghosbusters who will take over for the original group, all of whom – including Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Aykroyd -- will be returning, along with Sigourney Weaver who Aykroyd claims is now on board. (Some rumors suggest the leader of the new Ghostbusters team will be Weaver’s son, featured as a small baby in Ghostbusters 2.)
As far as this new generation goes, Aykroyd sees it being a five-member team with several female characters. Two names that have popped up include Alyssa Milano (who voices a character in the Ghostbusters video game) and Eliza Dushku. Aykroyd thinks both "are amazing," and I’m sure each would be eager to star in a film this big.
With the exception of the original cast, no one else has signed on yet – not even a director. Aykroyd would like for Ramis to direct, though admits the man may be too busy. If that happens, though, is it possible we’ll see Ramis’ Year One stars, Jack Black and Michael Cera, strapping on proton packs? Could be…
Who would you like to see star as a new recruit in the Ghostbusters sequel?
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
