Personally, Soderbergh's never been my favorite. While he has undeniably made a few worthy films, most of his films fall into two categories: "experimental" and "half-assed (i.e. The Girlfriend Experience, Bubble, Eros, and (sorry friedmoose) Solaris. Or they fall into: 30% quirky, 70% boring. I did like The Informant!, however, and I plan on watching Magic Mike tonight, which I certainly hope I'll enjoy. I saw Side Effects last night, and it's definitely an entertaining albeit convoluted and perhaps disappointing movie.
I would not be surprised if 5-8 years from now, he comes out of "retirement." I have not seen all of his films, but I liked "Contagion", "Ocean's Eleven", "Traffic", and "The Informant" a lot.
I've enjoyed a lot of his films, but I like his re-make of Solaris and Insomnia quite a bit.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
