In addition to recent reports that Warner Bros. has hired writers for adaptation of long-gestating projects, Justice League and Wonder Woman, comes news that the studio is mulling over what to do with the Green Lantern franchise.
The film suffered a disappointing run in theaters last year, grossing $220 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget. The studio is debating on whether to bring back star Ryan Reynolds for a sequel or re-launch the character with a new actor. What that re-launch would entail is up for discussion as DC Comics recently reintroduced the Green Lantern character as their newly gay superhero.
Green Lantern screenwriters Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim turned in an outline for the sequel last year, but the studio was expected to make significant changes if not start completely from scratch.
DC is moving forward with other comic book properties, developing solo films for Aquaman, Shazam, Green Arrow and The Suicide Squad. Whatever direction Warner Bros. decides to take with Green Lantern and the rest of the DC Comics heroes, Variety reports that executives have learned a valuable lesson from the success of The Avengers. Though it may seem like common sense to most of us, executives said they need "to tap creative that genuinely understand the characters the way Joss was comfortable with The Avengers."
What do you think WB should do with Green Lantern? Keep Reynolds, re-cast the character, or work him into the Justice League a la The Hulk was brought back in The Avengers?

Ryan Reynolds, Green Lantern
I thought Ryan Reynolds did a fabulous job as the Green Lantern and hope he'll get another opportunity to play one of my favorite DC hero(s) characters. I would like to see him bring out a more serious side to the Green Lantern though 'cause the script was abit to comedy in the debut movie of the GREEN LANTERN: just bring some serious tone aspects to the movie and bring back Mark Strong, too. Looking forward to more DC Classic comics coming to the big screen.
Everyone interested in the character saw the latest Green Lantern and it was descent. If WB wants to get repeat customers and a broader fan base for the character, they need a script that less resembles a Saturday morning cartoon written for 10 year olds.
In my opinion, DC made Alan Scott, the Original Green Lantern from the 40's gay and this has intentionally caused a lot of confusion. Because there are multiple Green Lanterns and the majority of the non-comic book reading fans don't know this, just saying "Green Lantern is Gay" is definitely misleading. In the more recent Justice League cartoons of the last, say, 15 years, Green Lantern was BLACK and his character was John Stewart, an ex-Marine. So, some people who saw GL on that show heard about the GL movie and then saw Ryan Reynolds and were confused. Now, it's the same thing with Alan Scott.
I had no problem with Ryan Reynolds as GL and liked the movie. I think a sequel vs Sinestro could be very good with the right script.
Ryan Reynolds was great as Hal Jordan. The film actaully exceeded my expectations-and I am a long-time GL fan. As far as DC making The Emerald Knight their 'newly gay superhero'--BOO! Nothing against peoples sexual preferences (seriously), my point is WHO CARES if a superhero is gay or not? WHY do we need to know this? Is a superhero comic about that hero's sexual escapades??? NO. Keep that stuff private, thanks. I read my comics strictly for heroic entertainment value and not what goes on behind closed doors. I'm getting sick of 'political correctness' becoming a part of EVERYTHING. Some things are better left unsaid. Why doesn't DC just create a brand new gay superhero rather than change an established and obviously hetero character???
Reynolds wasn't the problem...fix the story, writing and effects.
I think Black Widow and Mystic would make perfect gay super heros. Scarlett Johansen and Jennifer Lawrence making out. That's an Avengers movie I'd pay to see again and again!!!
They are probably going to replace him with someone gay since the charcater came out of the closet

The newly gay green lantern is Alan Scott who isn't the same one from the movies, who is Hal Jordan. Fandango needs to fact check their stuff.
Completely reboot it.
I don't understand why they took "Common" out of the picture in the first place. For those who don't know, he is the black rapper that is bald and has already played in numerous movies. He is in shape and young people can identify to him in the current justice league that has the "Black" Green Lantern on cartoon T.V now. Replace boring Ryan, he has been in other comic book movies already, and slated for more. Too greedy.
Ryan Reynolds is an awsome actor. He was great as Hannible King and kicked *** as Wade Wilson (Deadpool). The problem with The Green Latern was a week script and lack of a good nemesis. If the writers had started up Sinestro as the villian and taylored the role of Hal Jordan to fit Ryan's style of acting I think the movie would have been a major success! I would like to see more focus on The Deadpool project.
Honestly, if someone else does Green Lantern I will not watch it. Reasoning is this, an actor can only do as well as the script is written. . I enjoyed the movie however, compare to the rest of the comic book movies out there it was below par. It had nothing to do with Reynolds just the person behind the script. Plus, he is a rather sexy man and getting rid of him would just hurt the movie in the long run.
Love how people who don't know anything about superheroes write up news articles about super hero movies. The DC announcement was their would be "A" gay Green Lantern, Allen Scott, in the DC universe the is equivlant to saying their will be a gay police officer because the Green Lanterns are basicly the space police and there are more of them than they can give names to.
The Green Lantern movie was ok, the plot sucked, it needed to be bigger than Earth
bigger than just to save a pretty girl in distress, i hope they bring the Gay Green Lantern , but with an amazing plot .
I'm on board for the sequel but if you reboot it and or drop RR, count me out.
Don't blame it's critical backlashes or sales on the stars who did it properly, how about blame the script and the very poor casting for villains like Hector Hammond. Where the stellar Nolan Batman movies have the likes of Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, you all chose to use Peter Saarsgard, Tim Robbins and Clancy Brown as the voice of Parallax. Wow. All three were bad and way too soft and have just a weak and damaging presence to the film. It's like you all had excellent casting on one end (even kudos for Temuera Morrison as Abin Sur) and abysmal casting on the flip side of the coin. Don't reboot Mark Strong will do an outstanding job as Sinestro and prove a formidable enemy and adversary for Reynolds in the sequel.
So, I read that DC is considering rebooting the GL because, the first had a poorer showing than desired at the box office, and also since the JL has the green light (no pun intended), they would like to add some diversity to the team- enter John Stewart the black GL. Too late for that with me DC. If you had done this from the get go, I would have been fine with it and on board, but honestly, Hal Jordan IS the Green Lantern to me and from the JL I grew up with in the 80s and Ryan Reynolds looks spot on with Hal. Reynolds also did an excellent job with the part as did Mark Strong and Blake Lively (they were cast perfectly) and I saw the movie twice in theaters (3D and 2D) and twice on blu-ray!
Get rid of Reynolds and those B grade New Zealand actors, add a decent script and Green Lantern could be great.
I will agree with all of you on keeping Ryan he looks like Hal so there is no reason to recast him. As for the gay twist are you kidding me Hal was always a player why would you even suggest that. I think if they made a second one having Sinestro as the bad guy with the yellow ring would be pretty interesting and from there you would have the ability to to hint to a Justice League Movie.
I understand why the studio would want to have a fresh start after the financial letdown of "Green Lantern," but the problem with the film had more to do with a weak enemy (Parallax), a badly written story, and mediocre acting.
Ryan Reynolds was did what he could, but there was little that he could do.
In other words, fire the creative team behind "Green Lantern," and keep Reynolds.
Also the amount of money spent was crazy for a new comer. Marvel/disney just moved iron man budget up to 160 million but, his mover are known to bank why would they gamble. if it cost about a 100 million it would of been reasonable.
Horrible Idea! Ryan Reynolds did an awesome job!
Who is Bryan R?
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
