The Ugly Tale of the Two Twilight Documentaries

By: Erik Davis on February 10, 2010 at 3:54PM Comments (11)

I'm sure any die hard Twi-hard would be down to watch multiple Twilight-related documentaries, but Summit Entertainment isn't too keen on giving you that option since, ya know, they want to gobble up all the Twilight for themselves (and who can blame them?). Essentially, there are two Twilight documentaries in the works right now – both of which revolve around the real-life Forks, Washington, and the affect the Twilight phenomenon has had on the small town, which, in the book, is the home of Bella Swan and all her weird, vampiric cronies.

The first doc, titled Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town, was produced by Summit Entertainment and will be released next month on DVD in conjunction with the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Why not just release a doc like that on the New Moon DVD itself? Well, then you can't make twice the money, can you?

Meanwhile, another documentary, titled Forks: Bitten by Twilight, was produced by a company named Topics Entertainment, and they've already sent flyers to retailers advertising their doc. Problem is Summit is taking issue with their DVD cover (both are pictured here), which features art that is very similar to Summit's trademarked art and, as such, is very deceptive. Summit is now suing Topics Entertainment, and is looking to stop them from releasing the doc, among other things.

Check out the image of both DVDs in this post, and let us know what you think. Does Summit have an argument, or should both films be able to share space on the same shelf at your local retail store?

Summit is actually claiming a trademark on trees? Mother Nature should be next in line.

They are different images! Summit is just greedy;they would do well to be thankful for their audiences, and be an example by giving other companies have opportunity as well.

Who would buy either of these? I never watch the free bonus discs that come with every "special edition" dvd as it is. Only Mother Nature can trademark trees. I would be willing to bet that both companies are greed driven. Even topics ent. is producing a dvd doc. about someone elses movies- That doesn't sound right. James Cameron would even be pissed if I started to make my doc about avatar. Both companies are lame.

Why spend the money on a documentary about the real life town based from the book? Seriously? Even if you do buy it, if you watch it more than once i pitty you. Spending 15-30 dollars on something that will be on TV in 6 months is about as smart as me posting to this in the first place.

The point is another company is cashing in on someone else's idea. Stephanie Meyer gets royalty on every piece. Isn't it her right to say yes or no? By the way the tree line with Twilight on the front is a complete knock off. They are disquising their product as a twilight product...that is what is wrong.

agreed I don't think they are arguing about the wonderful backdrop the "twilight" looks just like a summit productions "twilight" and actually if the Documentary is on the real life city of Forks and how the Twilight books have caused a tourist attraction then no one need pay royalty fees to anyone. Stephanie did write about a real place. that exists in our world. did she have to pay royalty fees? no.
