Spike Lee's latest film, Red Hook Summer, is appropriately screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York right now. A teaser trailer has hit the Web as the film counts down to its limited release on August 10th. The film tells the story of a boy from Atlanta who spends the summer in Brooklyn with his grandfather, who he's never seen before.
Lee not only directed the film, but he also wrote the script, his first writing effort since 2004's She Hate Me. While we can't gather much from this teaser, other than it appears to be a soulful love letter to Brooklyn, a full length trailer shouldn't be too far behind.
Last year's breakout cancer comedy 50/50 has brought us this year's version starring True Blood's Ryan Kwanten. Not Suitable for Children finds Kwanten's playboy character learning that he has a month until he become infertile as a result of testicular cancer. In a race against time, he sets out to procreate as much as possible, but ultimately decides that there's only one girl he wants to raise a child with.
Kwanten has been a busy man lately. Not only does he star in Not Suitable for Children, but he'll be front and center in Grudge director Takashi Shimizu's airplane thriller 7500 and the Joe Lynch directed fantasy adventure Knights of Badassdom. All this in addition to his regular work on True Blood and current work in boxing biodrama Hands of Stone.
Not Suitable for Children arrives in Australian theaters on June 28 and is currently awaiting its U.S. release date.
Last but not least is Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, an indie dramedy that has been making the festival rounds since premiering at the Toronto Film Festival last year. The film centers on an uptight New York City lawyer (Catherine Keener) who takes her two teenagers to her hippie mother's farmhouse upstate for a family vacation.
Jane Fonda plays the hippie mom with breakout stars Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Nat Wolff (The Naked Brothers Band) in the teenager roles. Other famous faces include Jeffery Dean Morgan, Chace Crawfor and Kyle MacLachlan.
Peace, Love & Misunderstanding is due to screen at the Newport Film Festival next week before it gets a limited run in theaters beginning June 8.
