With all these '80s remakes popping up in theaters, it was only a matter of time before we came across more of our beloved favorites. Considering Top Gun was such a big success for Tom Cruise at the time, it's surprising that a sequel never came about. There had been talk over the years (most recently in 2008) of Cruise returning for a sequel as a 'Top Gun' instructor himself, but that never happened. Now, though, it looks like Paramount wants to make a sequel happen – so much so that they've made offers to both Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, and are trying to get Christopher McQuarrie (Valkyrie, The Usual Suspects) to update the sequel's script.
Tom Cruise, Top Gun 2
I would rather see him as Les Grossman, producing Tugg Speedman in a Top Gun style movie...
My favorite movie of all time! Absolutely make a sequel... not a remake, but a true, good sequel! Oh how I'd love to see another beach scene!! I'd love to see Channing Tatum in the jumpseat this time!
What are my thoughts? Top Gun was an awesome movie - if they redo it they will destroy it. Besides Tom Cruise was gorgeous back then - he's much older now, and .... just wouldn't be right to bring him back ... So again ... my thoughts? Come up with something original!! Let it go dudes!
No, respect the classics.
I think "story best left in the 1980s" sums up my feelings about a Top Gun sequel perfectly. Enough said.
It would have been cool to have seen a sequel with Tom as an instructor, but since not..I think it's best left alone.
Just because You've lost that Lovin Feelin does't mean everyone has. Emma Stone should be somebody's love interest in this. Scarlett Johansson shoud be the kick *** pilot.
I agree, at least that it should be a woman.
Tom Cruise gave me my first and only A in high school, it is to this day the only movie that I can re-sight verbatim and I was one of the millions of girls who had a Top Gun poster on my wall, and with all of my heart and love for Top Gun and Tom I wouldn't pay to see Top Gun 2. It is very rare that a "classic" movie can handle a remake and sadly Top Gun is not one of them. It was lighting in a bottle and something that can not be redone. So move on Maverick, move on Tom, Hollywood for once try and earn your paychecks by thinking outside of the box and stop relying on the hits of the past to bring you your next bounce check. Just my two cents.
Love To Shop
Best left in the 80's!!! Why aren't producers and writers able to come up with original story lines and/or ideas instead of doing the remakes of the Classic 80's movies? Come on, movies are becoming BORING.......
I am jumping up and down on my couch just thinking of the possibility!
Charlie, she's is a man, baby!! YEAH!!
Just another reason to not see another movie, as I am not a fan of remakes.sequals need to extend the story with a what happened next type of feel, and remakes need to take the story to a higher level not just improve the special effects or use 3D. I say NO, NO, NO. What is next - do we burn down Atlanta again in a remake of Gone with the Wind.? Will the monkeys fly again somewhere over the rainbow in the land of Oz?
They are making another Oz movie... it's going to be a prequel though.
I thought if they cam up with a new young gun like Shia Lebeouf or someone that could be as cocky as Cruise was in the first one it could be pretty cool.
Shia Lebeouf failed at that- remember Indiania Jones and the Crystal Skull? He was supposed to be a bad ass, arrogant, cocky, like Jones. Guess what? He wasn't.
So if you actually think he could pull a Maverick attitude, doubtful- he lacks that charisma and arrogance to pull it off.
That seems to be Hollywood's theme ..remakes...I vote No on Top Gun Remake.
I think it would be a good thing. One of the main stars of the movie, the F-14 has been retired along with its ego and mystique. The current fighter of choice would be the F-18F Super Hornet, called the Rhino to separate it from its little brother the "Legacy Hornet". The basis of Top Gun was that it was a buddy flick; Mav and Goose against the world. If that could be recaptured I would drop my hard earned dollars to go see it.
There are 2 seater versions of the Super hornet that are in active duty. (And not just trainers, but actual combat ready) So it could still be "buddy flick" as you would like to say.
The super "hornette" is NOTHING like the all out, kick a$$ and take names Tomcat!!
GOOOSE WATCH THE CANOPY AGAIN!
this really should NOT be made.....crusies films have sucked for the last 10 years...move on and leave the idea of Top Gun 2 where it belongs, in the grave.
Leave as is! They waited too long for a sequel. But, I still don't see it as a success in sequel or remake, which, would be worse. Sequel would've been good 2, maybe 5 years later. 24-25 years later is too long and late.
No remake for gods sake please
Duke Mitchell's son in a remake, please say it ain't so.
Why all the negative comments. Yes this is a great idea. Doing such a thing always stretches an actor, producer, director, and all the writers involved. Stretching ones self and getting out of your comfort zone is always a great idea. C'mon people it's only a movie and a piece of film. If it's a bomb is it going to change your life in any way? Oh I see, you may lose an arm if it's a bomb right? Sheeeeez.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
