Taylor Kitsch to Sink Your 'Battleship'

Whether you’re ready for it or not, Universal is about to turn a board game you grew up with as a kid into one of the biggest movies of 2012 (right now it’s set to hit Memorial Day weekend of that year). Yup, Battleship – that game remembered more for its tagline (“You sunk my Battleship!”) than anything else – is gearing up to become a major motion picture that will be directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock).

Taylor Kitsch

Heat Vision now reports that the casting process has begun, with Taylor Kitsch landing a starring role as the “wildly spirited” Naval commander Alex Hopper. It had been between Kitsch and The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner, however Renner bowed out due to scheduling conflicts with another film. Kitsch may not be immediately familiar to you, but if you watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then you know him as the guy who played Gambit. He’s also been featured on the TV version of Friday Night Lights, and appears to be an actor who’s slowly climbing the familiarity charts.

In the film, an international fleet of five ships will band together to help battle a sizable group of water-bound aliens called the Regents, which were described as looking somewhat like the character of Davey Jones did in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Do you think Battleship has a chance to “wow” audiences, or is it totally lame to be actually adapting a board game into a big-budget summer blockbuster?

So, maybe the aliens think that since water covers most of our planet's surface, that's where the resistance would be? I dunno...could be Independence Day, but it could be Waterworld.

Sounds dangerously "adventureous" fantastic and look forward to the BATTLESHIP 2012 Movie starring Actor Taylor KITSCH. His unforgettable protrayal of X-Men GAMBIT (would like to see him reprise that Role!) in the X-MEN WOLVERINE Movie was out of this world...'the battle Alley scene between him/Gambit & Wolverine, Wow!!! Shake the Planet...'so I eagerly await his new movie. All the best to this young Actor Mr. Kitsch.

so are the aliens going to fly all the way to our planet to battle in the water?? how ridiculous. or are humans going to fly all the way to another planet with battleships to battle in their water? if we or aliens could come to another planet, we would want to do battle at 30 knots.

During the battle of Leyte Gulf (WWII), Admiral Halsey was tricked into moving his forces northward, leaving a small group of destroyers/escort carriers to protect San Bernedino strait. On Oct 25, 1944, a large Japanese taskforce (including the Yamato) came steaming through the straight. Caught off guard, the escort carriers launched their planes and then ran for cover toward an eastern squall. The small destroyer escort ships turned toward the Japanese and engaged them at terrible odds. Imagine small destroyers attacking battleships in order to protect the helpless carriers and an unguarded strait. Their courage and heroism would make an awesome movie, and NO STUPID ALIENS NEEDED!!!!

this has potential to be amazing. But i seriously doubt it will be if there going with an alien storyline. Why not just more ships!
