Spooky Trailers for 'Let Me In' and 'Paranormal Activity 2'

By: Erik Davis on July 2, 2010 at 2:41PM Comments (17)

We're not even close to Halloween yet, but Hollywood wants to start prepping you for this fall's spookiest films now. Trailers for two highly anticipated movies just arrived online, and Fandango has your first look at the vampires and ghosts that will be scaring moviegoers silly come October.

The Plot: In Let Me In, Kodi Smit-McPhee stars as a bullied youth who befriends a young female vampire (played by Kick-Ass' Chloe Moretz) secretly living with her guardian in the same apartment complex.

What's The Deal: Folks have been extremely skeptical about this remake of the exceptional 2008 Swedish film Let the Right One In, because let's face it: Horror remakes barely ever live up to the originals. Tack on the fact that the original has become somewhat of a cult phenomenon, and, well, let's just say there's a lot of pressure on Cloverfield director Matt Reeves to deliver something worthwhile.

The Verdict: Good news is this first trailer looks pretty badass. With the exception of the weird score (I'm not crazy about it; doesn't quite fit the mood or story), this first trailer definitely looks to deliver a movie chock-full of bloody scares. I say See It when it hits theaters on October 1st. Watch the trailer below.

The Plot: Unknown as of now, though expect the film to follow the rules of the first one and tell a really spooky ghost story from the point of view of random video cameras set up around a house.

What's The Deal: Due to the overwhelming success of the original, Paramount decided to rush a sequel into production in order to have it out in theaters this fall. Tod Williams is directing, and currently there's no word on cast.

The Verdict: If there's one good thing about this trailer, it's that it shows us that they're still keeping things simple by telling another suburban ghost story via home video cameras. To up the ante, the sequel looks to involve a baby and a dog, so instead of a couple, this time it looks like we have a whole family. I say See It on October 22nd because something tells me there's still some fun scares left in this idea. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think.

Agreed, PA was absolutely horrible and in my opinion far too stupid to be scary. I wonder if PA 2 will have the timer in the corner letting you know exactly when the "scare" is coming, like the 1st one did. As for Let me In, my curiousity is peeked as I am fan of the original. I don't consider Let The Right One In a horror movie but more of a dark romance. I'm positive the remake will lose a great deal in translation and be massively over stylized but I'll still see it. I will not however be duped out of $10.00 by paranormal activity again.

The remake,"Let Me In," probably won't be as excellent as the book (which rivals Stephen King's superb pre-mid-Eighties effectiveness) or the equally excellent 2008 Swedish film. However, given the talent of the cast - especially Chloe Moretz - it looks like it'll be be better than the usual subpar American remake. I say this as somebody who usually groans, "ANOTHER American remake of a near-perfect foreign film"? There are plenty of potential excellent horror film-source authors out there - Edward Lee, Lucifer Fulci, Poppy Z. Brite, Michael McDowell, Lucy Taylor, Jack Ketchum, Graham Masterton, select works of Tanith Lee, etc. Why hasn't Hollywood tapped these writers (more often)? It's money, brand recognition, sadly.

Let Me In might be good might not, I'm kinda excited to see, I really like the swedish version, and I hope the US remake pans out to be just as good.

P.A. 2 is going to be cool, however I'm anticipating Let me in more. I watched the great Let the Right One In and it was amazing, watched it over and over and over. And the fact that they are getting Chloe to play the vampire girl is a great great great idea. Chloe is an amazing actress and will do a damn good job creeping people out.

On the topic of Let me IN, I'm really not looking forward to see the butchuring of the original, which has come to be one of my favorite movies of all time. The two leads in the remake just don't fit the right profile for the characters they way they should be according to the book, and the way the swedish film was made was 10 times better than the american remake will ever be. It almost sickens me that thousands of people may love this movie, but never take it to themselves to see the original, or read the book (My suggesetion is to read the book before seeing either movie: you understand everything much better). All in all, I think maybe it's a good movie to hollywood standards, but nothing compared to the book or swedish film

C'mon, "sickens you?" Isn't that a little dramatic? You think "maybe" it's a good film yet it's not even out and you have not even seen it. You CAN like both versions you know, if the US one is good...

I saw the original and was so bored I had to keep starting over from not knowing what part I dosed off at. Most books are better but i would prefer to see the film beforehand to fill in the faces with the names. I would hope Hollywood's take on it will keep me awake...at least until the party gets started. I also know that most horror movies have the slow beginning obviously for us to familiarize with characters before they start killing them off but DANG, that "Original" didn't seem to be going anywhere...and effects were very ....underdeveloped. maybe in Sweden its the bomb, but in my opinion, it just bombed.

Is there any chance of Hollywood ever realizing that gore =/= scary? Psychological sacre are infinitely better than seeing someone's entrail up on the screen. If I want to watch something getting chopped, I'll watch a documentary on the meat industry. Honestly, that was the only good thing about the comedy posing as horror movie PA1. It's largely audio scares that have a chance of sticking with you after you leave the theater. Unfortunately, that m,ovie's plotline so so unbelievably retarded that all I could do was laugh, and root for the demon to finally kill the dumbass boyfriend.

Loved the first movie, but I have to say, I have no interest in watching a baby or the dog die. Killing a guy is one thing, but a kid and a pet is another! Not to mention sequels, especially ones that exist for the sole purpose that the first movie was such a surprising success and then producers rush a sequel to make more buck, don't generally do as well. But we'll see what happens.

I can agree with you. Loved the 1st one but curious about the 2nd. I'm a mom so when delicate subjects such as this, I get nervous since I can't bear to see a child in such a state. I guess we'll all have to see what happens.

I can completely understand your concerns for mines are the same: that's a sweet innocent and his protector: I'm like as thriller-and anxious as I am to see the new "Paranormal Activity 2" due to the smash haunting "success/likes" of the first, I'm a little specticle 'cause I don't want any harm whatsoever to came to that baby or pet. So, please PARONORMAL ACTIVITY Writers take this advice to light for sure make it scary but no harm coming to little ones. I must say the PA 2 Trailer is "clever and scary" as hell but "please" no harm to the baby or pet. I'm looking forward to seeing MICAH return so that KATIE (she's processed) can have a challenger.'it was heartwrenching frightening seeing the demise of this Couple. Can't wait to see PA 2!
