Back when Men in Black 3 was making the press junket rounds, there was word that Will Smith would be making his feature directorial debut with a big-budget biblical epic titled The Redemption of Cain.
The Wrap reports that Smith's production company, Overbrook, will produce the film and Sony has picked up the distribution rights, green lighting the project for production. Shooting begin next summer in London, Jordan and Morocco.
A couple of years ago, the project was known as The Legend of Cain and Smith was set to star in the film written by Caleeb Pinkett, Smith's brother-in-law.
Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain killed Abel because he was jealous God favored his brother Abel. God then condemned Cain, searing his with a mark and setting him to wander the earth for all eternity.
Smith though, not content with the bloody family feud and Almighty retribution thought the story was lacking one key component – vampires.
While what exactly will be given a vampiric twist remains to be seen, but maybe Smith will pattern the film as a vampire vs. werewolves Biblical action flick, minus all the sappy romance.
Do you like the angle Smith is taking on this project or should he just stick to acting?

Vampires and the Bible? Cowboys and aliens? Tired tropes are still tired tropes even when you mash them together. Why not Muhammad vs. Buddha for UFC 207? Elvis as a medieval minstrel? Laverne and Shirley...but in New York fighting Magneto! Making this crap up is too easy.
Sounds intriguing. As someone pointed out, the vampire/Bible bit has been done with Dracula 2000 (I actually own that movie). Still, Will Smith is one of my favorite actors. It will interesting to see where he takes this.
I am an avid fan of this genre and I believe if a director/producer can capture a better twist on it, they should do so. Many religious fanatics have a difficult time with the possibility of the Cain and Able….smitten by GOD and Cain being doomed to live a life of immortality scares them as it should. GREAT CONNECT TO angles and demons as well. The whole purpose for us to stretch our beliefs and understanding is to just think, “What If?” Will Smith should do the homework and then go full steam ahead with this project. Good Luck and good writing. Please be methodical.
"smitten by GOD and Cain being doomed to live a life of immortality scares them as it should" - THIS IS NOT IN Gen. 4:8-16 please, someone, give a Biblical reference for this, because it is inaccurate.
1 TImothy 6:15, 16 "The King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality."
Genesis 4:8- 16 "curse" part (actually judgement)4:11And now [art] thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. no vampires, wolves or other.
I know that no matter what Will Smith does, he always succeed in it... Let's remember "I AM LEGEND" and "7 pounds", these were some of the best meaningful movies to be watched, I think that adding vampires to the Cain and Abel story is not a very suitable idea, but I believe that Smith wants to add vampires to make the movie more accessible to modern people or because he wants to symbolize something with them so I agree that he should apply his ideas to the movie... check his profile and biography on [BLOCKED WEBSITE]
This is not the first time someone has said Cain and Able 's story was the being of Vampires. Some already mentioned the name Liltih, who was suppose to be Adams equal prior to Eve but she felt (Adam) treated her unkind and left the Garden and was punished to become the serpant. Who In turn convinced Eve to eat the Apple from the Forbidden Tree causing both her and Adam to be punished by God to leave the Garden. So yes I think if Will Smith feels he can write and direct this Movie while keeping it tasteful , I say Go for It. and to MR or MRS deuxprecious. Most of the Bible stories are full of death, fear and hate. But they teach us how to Love, Respect and Forgive each other. With the hopes move on to be with Our Lord when Our time comes.
While I rank Will right up there with Denzel as far as acting goes, his choice of material for his directorial debut causes me some concern.
Have we finally run out of idiotic plots and now want to tamper with the Bible??
I love Will and respect his talent . I have always been a big fan..but this , you are right ....this one really makes me worry for so many reasons.May his eyes be opened and may he be guided according to the will of the almighty God.
What's with the recent vampire obsession? Also, this is a rip off of the story in a popular video game of several years ago called Vampire: The Masquerade. The Legend of Cain and Raziel video games also touch on this. Finally, altering the story to fit the vampire theme of the movie is fine, but the Cain and Abel story does not say Cain wandered the earth for all eternity. He went to live in another area and died just like everyone else.
Will Smith has always been one of my fav actors, so seeing him in the director's seat is a nice and well-deserved change for him. The story sounds awesome and the vampire twist in it makes complete sense as Cain "walks the earth for all eternity". Can't wait to see the movie when it's finished.
A vampire biblical combination movie is not unprecedented. For those who haven't seen "Dracula 2000"......SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER......Dracula was Judas.
damn! why did you let the cat out?!!
Let him try his hand as Directorial: he has lots of creativity flewing through his whole being. Loved him/Actor Will Smith in I AM LEGEND: hope there will be a sequel one day. This Cain & Able Biblical flick sounds intriquing yet conflicting too, due to the vampiere twist-plot in it.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
