I liked this movie. I didn't understand the menace, though. I thought that the snake mask would give the bad guy power. No, it was to enable him to call his sorceress wife from the dead. Apparently she was powerful and evil. But how powerful could she be if she could be caught by some monks while running away in the forest, then get burned alive. And what did this menace have to do with the menace describe in the prologue? Everything else in the movie was enjoyable.

Conan is the ultimate swords and sorcery movie; action, adventure, sex and violence, fueled with testoterone, and greased with gore! Check out my full review: [BLOCKED WEBSITE]

Much better listening to this Conan than Arnold's voice. Arnold's problems with speech make me squirm in my seat. The nudity and violence were in keeping with Howard's books. The sorcery vs. primal power wasn't contrasted as well as Howard did, but it was present, just not as pervasive. The ancient world before Conan's whispers at the edge of the reader's consciousness in Howard's books (if you read five or so you get it). The race component was also not as prevalent in the movie. Cimmerians (and other tribes, clans, kingdoms) had a distinctive look and culture differentiating them, hard to capture on film unless they go to great lengths in the casting. I liked Conan's line about living, loving, slaying and being content--good stuff.

I blame the director. No one cared about making a true Conan Movie. I read the book by Michael A, Stackpole whiched was based on the screenplay by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua OppenHiemer and Sean Hood. The story was excellent, but the director failed to do his job. I believe the crew should have gotten together and read the book which explained so much the movie failed to interprete.Marque came off as lusting for her father, Khalar Zym, when in fact; she had only wanted her fathers approval. There were moments that Jason Momoa had in fight scenes that showed he was perfect for the part.Rachael Nichols character never had the chance to develop on screen so of course it was bad. People didnt care about this movie and that is what was sad.

This movie was the closest thing to the novels a great representation of the books not sure what you all are looking for maybe terms of endearment or Kings speech this is Conan & True fans of this genre will love it and eat it up. This is how the books are fast brutal Action he Conquers and Vanquishes hordes of enemies and doesn't spend time talking and chit chatting with his buddies that's not how Conan works and from reading peoples posts here I can see they no nothing about Conan or Hyboria. Justin if you want to know more there are over 100 novels that have been written about the hyborian lands & if you do read them you will say this movie is just like the books. This is absolute excellent film I cant wait for bluray steelbook 8)

ty and its not that i thought the film was bad its just that i think in a few cases the acting could of been better. unlike most ppl i had no issue with the fight scenes or the lack on great speeches conan to me has always been a brutal force he doesnt have time to care about the feeling of the ppl he is about to kill. Momoa was a great Conan i just didnt care for the 2 female leads as far as acting goes. i will continue to read about his adventures tho.

Worst movie EVER. We laughed thru most of it. The dialogue was pathetic, there was no chemistry, the action was lame/shaken camera/pathetic CGI, my nephews could do better on a home computer on the green screen. Please, please, please do not waste your time or money. It will be straight to video in a few weeks at less than $10 for the BlueRay.

on a side note....i was told they designed this Conan after the Frank Frazetta art work of Conan as well as the Robert E Howard story. Jason Momoa would also be an xlent Gath of Baal if they ever deside to make a Death Dealer movie. for those who dont know The Death Dealer is a wickedly bad *** painting and set of books by Frank Frazetta

i saw both Conan and Fright Night back to back yesterday. im a big Conan fan,the problem with this Conan movie is well...Rose McGowans didnt seem to be acting very well, the phoney baby at the beginning made me laugh, and the sword raiseing screaming that happened a few times was so lame and tthe chick who played the "pureblood" couldnt act her way outta a paper bag that being said,Momoa was a GREAT Conan,he had the right amount of thick brow gruntyness good sword skills..its alot like watching him in Game of Thrones it was a fun story i would of liked to see more of Conans back ground,as well as how he met the man who ends up raiseing him and helps him as a man it could of been better but it was a good story better than the 80's Conan

Folks we all love Arnold as Conan, that is a given, but it has been almost thirty years and Arnold is not coming back to the Hyborian age. This movie is good, Jason Moma did a very good job depicting a young conan. The young actor who played Conan as a child is a martial artist with a black belt rating and he proves it with his moves. The battles were bloddy the carnage interesting , the magic wasn't over the top, it was subtle and effective. The story is good, I felt it was rushed (because I read the book) but the story made sense. This is not a loyalty to Arnold contest, this introduces Conan to a new generation, and the realism is great. I highly recommend you go see it, but don't compare Jason to Arnold, Jason has a sleek musculature that promises to grow bigger as he grows older (think The Rock!). See it See it Sex, murder mayhem, what more could you want? Aliens? Well there is Cowboys and Aliens in the next theater.

Momoa is in his physical prime at 32 and about to start losing muscle mass, as per the norm of the human anatomy (without chemical help, which hell, they are acting not competing in sport so more power to them). As for The Rock, he is not bigger now than he was at that age. I thought the casting was good but the execution was poor. The story was remedial and doesn't pull you in, at all. 85% fighting does not make you care about the character/characters. If you want to see some blood and carnage, by all means, that's all the movie is. If you want there to be anything behind it, this is a poor excuse.

I went a watched the movie a few hours ago......I honestly didn't like it very much because the chemisty it seemed was off and the way the story was told was crummy. The begining when he kills the 3 or 4 guys as a child is awesome...from there the movie goes to hell....I hate to compare but at least with Arnolds version you get why he was such a efficent killer in the end as he was trained. The back story here stinks....the lack luster thing from the deep was as cheesy as the snake in the orignal.....This movie had a chance to be way better, it reminded me or the old Kevin Servo Hercules episodes.....Nice try....but I give this movie a a 2 out of 10...

Robert E. Howards' Conan the Barbarian is one of the most awesome characters ever written but it has never gotten the kind of treatment that it deserves in the movies until now. True, it could have been better. Giving us the history of the character AGAIN was needless and the "pureblood" role was totally miscast not to mention Rose McGowans anemic portrayal of the sorcerous daughter. But by giving it an "R" rating, at least we caught a fleeting glimpse of the true savagery of the Hyborian world, something that was totally lacking in the Arnold movies. I think Jason Momoa did an excellent job playing a young Conan and hopefully, now that we have been "introduced" to the character, the next film can move even closer to Howards real vision.

Just got back from seeing it. I have to disagree. I would vomit for 4 straight hours. This is one of the worste movies ever made. The only thing good about it was some of the FX. Acting was utterly amateurish. Story? I've seen better stories about peoples moms written on bathroom stall walls. Chemistry? They have about as much chemistry as a vampire does to sunlight. If I had to rate it on a scale of 1-10, 1 being Lou Ferigno Hercules bad and 10 being Empire Strikes Back awesome, I would rate this a negative 15. I think all proceeds from this movie should be forfeited and used to put up billboards across the world apologizing to the world for crimes against humanity. And this is just my initial reaction.

Oh wow. This is a wonderful response! To be honest my post was only based on the trailers but it is good to see my observation was mostly accurate. This provided me with a good amount of laughter and enjoyment and judging by what you have said about the film I am sure you're well written review is more entertaining than the film. My hat is off to you.
