Ernest Borgnine was a genre film and b-movie demi-god. Owner of an effortlessly lovable face and a screen presence that could go from sweet to sour in a heartbeat, Mr. Borgnine enjoyed a long career by simply being the best thing in whatever movie he showed up in. Here, then, are my own favorites from the long and seriously impressive career of Ernest Borgnine.
The world of television and film lost a true great this morning. The lovable ol' Andy Griffith passed away at the age of 86. Although best known for series like The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock (two TV programs I never really watched), the movie fans still have a few great films and performances worth pointing to. Here are five worth watching...
If you thought Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been busy over the past few years, you haven't seen anything yet. Not only does the man have a big fistful of high-profile films (including a certain Batflick) on the way, but now comes word from Deadline that the versatile filmmaker will be directing his debut feature, co-starring the luminous Scarlett Johansson.
The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd. It has no connection to the earlier trilogy, which Sony hopes you have filed away (on your DVD shelf) and forgotten. Check out the latest trailer which hit the web, no pun intended, at midnight.
In honor of Gene Hackman's 82nd birthday, here are ten Hackman movies worth checking out! Which ones are your favorites?
The G.I. Joe sequel (aka G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation) has all sorts of amusing things in its corner: A) Bruce Willis. B) The Rock. C) director John Chu. D) Zombieland screenwriters Ryan Wernick and Rhett Reese. E) No Marlon Wayans. Check out trailer number one, inside!
There have been a few true no-nos in cinematic history. Today marks the re-awakening of Moe, Larry and Curly better known as The Three Stooges in their trailer debut. Check it out and let us know what you think.
"From director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson..." That's really all one needs to hear, isn't it? But for those who are a bit more demanding, enjoy the second trailer to The Adventures of Tintin inside and sound off with your thoughts!
Oh, you didn't know they were making a fifth Die Hard movie? Yup. Fox loves franchises, Bruce Willis digs action flicks and thanks to Deadline, we now know who'll be directing the further adventures of unlucky policeman John McClane. Good choice or would you have preferred a different director?
Bloody Disgusting reports that the Weinstein / Dimension team is looking to have a Scary Movie 5 in theaters before next summer. So far Dimension has hired three writers (two of whom penned The Comebacks) but no word on actors, directors, or hilarious pop-culture-ized cameo appearances. Are you up for a fifth Scary Movie?
Not long ago we shared with you the first batch of films from one of our very favorite film festivals, and now we're back with a follow-up. The 2011 edition of Austin's Fantastic Fest offers a wide array of cinematic mania and today, we offer up a look at the second batch of movies screening at the fest!
Think you've seen all of Christopher Nolan's films? Just because you've seen Following and the "reverse chronological" version of Memento? Think again. Unless you've actually seen Doodlebug (which was released on a 2003 compilation video), you're in for an early Nolan treat. Check it out inside!
"Original," "unique," and "one of a kind" are terms that get used fairly often when talking about the actors and actresses we adore -- but once in a while those terms truly FIT the person under discussion. Today we lost an original, a unique performer, and a wonderfully one of a kind personality: the perpetually lovable Peter Falk has passed away at the age of 83.
Has it been a while (or never) since you've seen Kung Fu Panda? Are you desperate for a quick "catch-up" with the characters? And perhaps in the mood for a brief introduction to the new characters in Kung Fu Panda 2? Don't you hate articles that begin with four consecutive questions? Then read on for a character guide to one of the early summer's most smoothly entertaining movies.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
