Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow to Get Solo Film

This isn't really a surprise, but it is an indication of where Marvel plans to go once they're done with their current crop of superhero cross-promotion. While speaking at a press conference for the new Iron Man 2 DVD, Marvel chief Kevin Feige admitted that they're currently working on a spin-off film for Scarlett Johasson's Black Widow character. He noted, "We've already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea, but The Avengers comes first." Feige later added that they haven't done much else except begin to put concepts together.

Considering the fact that Johansson signed on for something insane like nine films, it was only a matter of time before we eventually got to her own solo film – which will be the first female-driven superhero film under the new Marvel regime. There's no word on whether the story would pick up from where The Avengers leaves off, or if they'll jump back in time and go the origin story route with the character, following her all the way up until she went undercover as Tony Stark's secretary in Iron Man 2.
Since the character has already been introduced in one film (soon to be two), it might be best for them to just continue her storyline following The Avengers and shovel out whatever backstory we'd get in an origin story through flashbacks or dialogue. Seeing as Marvel is working on this whole large, continuous, multi-layered story involving several characters, it makes sense for them to move forward instead of back.
What do you think? Does Black Widow deserve her own film? And which would you rather see: an origin story, or one that picks up after The Avengers?

I think is a great idea. Let her have her own role. Everyone else has. I love Scarlett, show another side to her. Entertain me, that's what movies are for.

it depends on the villain. Has to be someone charismatic & talented & older like Susan Sarandon or Cher.

I think Elektra and Black Widow have to fight. There are no other solo Mavel female characters introduced. the rest are in groups and they are similar in power levels so they would make for a good competitive fight. Plus it would make for a great comic afterwards. Who would be the villian though? Of course, Widow and Elektra would have to beat up some guys prior t their showdown though.

Please don't even mention the Daredevil movie. It was obvious that none of the cast or directors etc... even read a Daredevil comic. Plus to make the King Pin a different race was just ridiculous. Now that Marvel has been taking full responsibility in their movies the story lines are true (in most part) to their originals. That said, a Black Widow movie could and should do very well as the character has many levels of interest surrounding her. Plus, it would appear that Scarlett Johansson takes the role seriously and plays it to the hilt.

This isn't going to be like Daredevil... Unlike that sad excuse of a movie, Black Widow actually has a good story behind the part. Scarlett has been #1 on my list for a few years, so I would definitely go see it!

One word: Electra. People thought that Jennifer Garner was the best part of Daredevil and she should get her own spin-off. And that movie was a load. Don't hold your breath if you're hoping for a decent Black Widow movie fanboys.

But since when has 20th Century Fox done anything superb for Marvel? Fantastic Four - Not good; Elektra - Garbage X-Men - Good with a lot of flaws. Paramount actually attempts to give the fan boys and everyday movie goers an experience and story that creates a good solid movie. Also, Elektra doesn't have a very "deep" back story. She has and always will be a supporting character. Black Widow's story is a little more adept, but also interesting. I'm sure it won't be amazing, but assuming it's done correctly it could be a good movie.

Black Widow's fight scenes in IM2 absolutely rocked. Scarlett is an amazing actress and her commitment to so many Marvel movies is wonderful. I'm sure her movie will outshine Catwoman and Elektra. Bring on her own movie!

Preferably cut the hair and make it short and put her in the "gray" Black Widow outfit in her own movie. At some point she needs to be speaking Russian and possibly speaking with a Russian accent while conversing with her Russian colleagues. Marvel Studios needs to consider the following directors and screenwriters for the Black Widow film: "Taken", "The Bourne(trilogy) "La Femme Nikita", "The Professional", "Traitor" and "The Long Kiss GoodNight."

She totally deserves her own movie. She's got a rich history and is fairly low tech as far as superheros go. She is a lot cheaper to present than ones with super powers. It should definately move forward from the Avengers movie. Origin stories take too long to get to the point and usually get screw up the history anyway. I'd rather move right into the action and maybe have a few quick allusions to her past.

I don't think they need to make a Black Widow movie just because she is kind of a minor character but i would still watch it because Scarlett Johansson is a babe.
