Ryan Reynolds Confirmed as Our Next Highlander?

Highlander mythology claims there can be only one. Yet Hollywood’s about to unveil another, and his name is Ryan Reynolds.
 
The Green Lantern star has been at the top of a casting wish list for the planned reboot of the Highlander franchise for some time now, but a confirmation from either Summit Entertainment or Reynolds’ camp was elusive.
 
Now, however, the Tracking Board is claiming that Reynolds "has officially been cast in the lead role" of the reboot, which will be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of 28 Weeks Later and Intruders. 
 
Should this news come to fruition, Reynolds would play Connor MacLeod, a Scottish swordsman who comes from a long line of Immortals who battle each other through time and space in an effort to lay claim to a power known as “The Prize.” 
 
The new Highlander would be an upgrade on the 1986 sci-fi classic, which cast Christopher Lambert as MacLeod and Sean Connery as the great Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez. 
 
No additional casting has been discussed for the Highlander reboot, though if Reynolds is locked in, you can expect the rest of the pieces to fall into place relatively quickly. Marvel fans hoping Reynolds was ready to bring Deadpool back to life in a standalone adventure likely are hanging their heads at today’s news. But for the rest of us hoping to see a rejuvenated Highlander story in theaters soon, we now have reason to celebrate.

    Colin Farrell would have been a better choice than RR and I am not a big fan of CF. RR is the same guy in every movie he is in......just RR in a different outfit with a different storyline. Green Lantern was 2 hrs of RR playing superhero dress up. I never once felt like I was watching Hal Jordan. It was just RR in a poorly cgi'd costume. This will rank up there with George Clooney playing Batman! UGGGH!

    I'm not going to pretend to be delighted by this news, because unless Reynolds proves me wrong when I see the movie, he is neither the right pick nor the best pick.
