The 2013 movie calendar just got a little bit more crowded.
Earlier this morning, Universal bumped up the IMAX release of the Tom Cruise sci-fi action flick Oblivion a week early. The film was set to arrive on IMAX screens on April 12, with the regular 35mm release still slated for the following week, but the studio released an announcement hours later canceling the early IMAX release. Both the 35mm and IMAX versions will now arrive in theaters on April 19.
Universal was looking to bank some extra box office dollars during the projected slow April 12 weekend which features the Jackie Robinson biopic 42 and Scary Movie 5 as the only wide releases. Neither of those movies is tracking well enough to win the box office during that particular weekend.
Speaking of biopics, two more will be headed to theaters this year.
The Weinstein Company announced that their two biopics will arrive toward the end of the year. Their Nelson Mandela film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, will arrive in theaters on November 29. The film stars Idris Elba as the former South African president and Skyfall's Naomie Harris as his wife, Winnie Mandela.
Weinstein's other higher profile biopic features Nicole Kidman starring as the late actress-turned-Monaco princess Grace Kelly. There have been a few stills that have landed online for Grace of Monaco, including the still below from last week. The film arrives in theaters on December 27.
Meanwhile, as he previously teased at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Paul W.S. Anderson is expected to helm a sixth Resident Evil movie which now has a release date. ShockTilYouDrop reports that Resident Evil 6 will arrive in theaters on September 12, 2014.
Anderson had previously stated that Resident Evil 6 would most likely close out the series. The most recent film, Resident Evil: Retribution banked $221 million worldwide.

For sure the Oblivion movie w/Cruise and Freeman, Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly/Princess of Monaco (she looks beautiful like the legendary Actress Grace Kelly). The MANDELA movie looks promising too starring Idris Elba and Naomi Harris (very attractive they are and quite talented) and the movie 42 on the Life on Sportsman-Baseball legend Jackie Robinson...'yeah just about everything is on my list. And of course Director Paul W.S. Anderson RESIDENT Evil 6 the conclusion to the thriller-adventure Franchise, can't wait to see MILA Jovovich kick mega-buns. She's awesome!!!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing Oblivion too and plan on purchasing an advance ticket when advance tickets go on sale. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Jackie Robinson biopic no mattter how well it does financially and how well it's received critically.
