In case you're looking for something different than the average blockbuster at this weekend's box office, be sure to check out the just released Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. It was the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and has been greatly championed by media giants Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey.
While its tale of an obese, illiterate, sexually abused 16-year-old may sound awfully grim, it's also a story about the hope Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) discovers through her relationship with a teacher (Paula Patton) at an alternative school.

Plus, we've got a link to an exclusive from Giant Magazine. To celebrate actress Patton, who the magazine hails as the next Halle Berry, they've just posted a sexy behind-the-scenes video from their recent interview shoot. Watch here and enjoy.
Also, if you don't see it opening this week in your area, keep an eye out as the film expands 11/13 and 11/20.
Precious, Paula Patton
When the movie Precious was released on DVD, I had a mental block that the movie was too oppressive and depressing. Reluctantly, I agreed to watch it. All of us were engrossed in the film, crying at times. When the film ended, we discussed movies in general and how they can change your perspective and engage your emotions. We compared Precious to the Hurt Locker, which won the Oscar best picture. We all agreed that the Hurt Locker was a great movie
I just watched this movie the other day. It was great! The only thing I did not like about it was the Special Features, A Precious Ensemble where at the end there was a statement, quote, whatever, most likely from Oprah saying Everything is a gift of the universe. If it was in fact from Oprah, why can she not give credit where credit is due? To God, not the universe! James 1:17 says Every good gift & every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Enough of this "universe" bs. God created the universe! Wise up Oprah!
I JUST WENT TO SEE THIS MOVIE, IT WAS AN AWESOME MOVIE. I WAS HEARTBROKEN OVER PRECIOUS, AND THE THINGS THAT WAS DONE TO HER, THIS IS NOT ONLY HAPPENING TO BLACK PEOPLE, THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER RACES OF PEOPLE, IT'S JUST THAT YOU DON'T HEAR ABOUT IT, LIKE YOU HEAR ABOUT AFRICAN-AMERICANS. IT WAS TEARS, THERE WAS LAUGHTER, AND ALSO TRIUMPH. IN THIS MOVIE. I'M GLAD I WENT TO SEE IT.
I can't belive that the movie is not been show in my area. I have to drive a hour to see the movie.
I will drive the hour to the see the movie, because I hear that it is a GREAT MOVIE.
I live in Reading Pa. and we have an imax only 10 mins away...
Sadly the movie was not all that it was hyped up to be. I suppose the characters were uniquely placed, however, the plethora of bad language made it difficult to watch. Although there are underlying awareness calls, not certain that they could be captured by the average movie-goer.
This is definitely a movie I want to see. I love when a good book is turned into a film.
I recently had the pleasure of reading Consequences by Linda R. Herman and I can't
wait to see if it hits the big screen because its a very real book that confronts the issue
of HIV/AIDS. It was heartbreaking how the selfish acts of one man ruined so many lives
but its also some people's reality. If you like true to life books, don't miss out on Consequences
by Linda R. Herman.
I agree with all the comments I was very upset to know that the movie was not showing in the East Tx, area. (Longview, Tyler) I mean i know were not as big as the other cities, but we need love also; so when is the movie coming our way? My family and i would really like to see it as well as others.
I'm a Black Woman, Wife, Mother and Grandmother born in the 50's. I live in Riverside,CA and less than 5 mins.away from a movie theater with 18 screens. I'd be lying if I said I can't believe "these people" still showing the world, "GOD'S WORLD" just how racist they truly are. They will continue to do anything to keep people of color unrecognized for their remarkable talents. Since this movie has gone unnoticed in theaters how fair do you think the Oscars will be. Oh... I apologize, I lost my mind for a moment...... I mentioned the word.......FAIR.

I want to know WHEN is this movie going to be released nationwide? Why did they hype up this movie only to release it in SELECT theaters only!!! I am highly upset. And to make matters worse they have not said when it will be released in theaters everywhere. This is absolutely ridiculous!
When will this madness end? I really don't know what approach we can take I live in Lakewood NJ
Every time WE get something great and beautiful the enemy will try to test our patience! Don't get mad get even! When you own your own business noone can tell you NO! Become an independent business owner and build your own theaters! HOW right?Your not RICH right? You are we all are you have to tap into the system/vehicle that will take you there! The company/vehicle is MONAVIE!
CONTACT ME CYNTHIAA852@AOL.COM I promise I can get us all there! We can end this and other unjust nonsense in our own States and Communities where every we live! Trust a Sister who knows how and is doing the very thing right know in Lakewood New Jersey !
I AM OFFICIALLY THROWING IN THE TOWEL FOR MOVIE-GOING. I AM ANGRY THAT THERE IS SOO MUCH BIGOTRY AND COWARDLINESS STILL PREVALENT IN THE WORLD. SHAME ON THE HUGE CONGLOMERATES THAT DICTATE WHAT SHOULD BE KEPT HIDDEN SO NOT TO UPSET THE PUBLIC. IT IS UPSETTING TO WATCH NIGHTLY NEWS OF PARENTS KILLING THEIR CHILDREN AND BURYING THEM IN A DITCH OR MOLESTATION AND ABUSE THAT IS SO COMMON THAT A LITTLE OF ME DIES EACH TIME A HEAR OF IT. "PRECIOUS" IS AN UGLY TRUTH. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in the Camden/Cherry HIll New Jersey area, I called the AMC Loews to find out when they would be showing the move "Precious", and was told they were not getting the movie at all!!! what is going on, the Biggest African-American movie since "The Color Purple" and it's only limited distribution? NOT RIGHT AT ALL!!!
Awesome movie, I don't understand why it wasn't shown nationwide. This isn't a black movie this is a life movie...so if the movie theaters think this movie just focus on ONE race the are sadly mistaken.
After waiting in a long line, (on Sunday morning - first showing) I was finally able to see this GREAT movie. It was WOW.
loved the book but very upset that I waited for the movie to come out and then find out that I would have to drive more than an hour to see it since its not playing in my area Richmond,Virginia.WHY?WHY?
I waited & waited for this movie to finally hit theaters to find out that it wasn't playing in my area either Tucson, AZ. I can't believe nor understand why this movie isn't availble for those who want to see it!
Saw the 1st showing in Evanston, IL. It wasn't playing in the burbs so I had to travel. I didn't care because there was NO way I was missing the moivie opening weekend. See my review.
This movie isn't playing in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC until this coming Thursday. I wanted to see this movie on Friday and now I have to wait. I'm not sure why this wasn't playing all over or at least in large cities that all the other movies started this weekend. Another great African American story and cast that will not contend with the weekend top movies or viewed as a failure because it had limited release cities.
i was upset also.its craze dat itz not in pittsburgh. not showing wen!
I would love to see this movie, but of course it is not being played in the Reno/Sparks Nevada area either, and it's not right, this movie should have come out at one time not broken up with all of these other dates, and just because of where I live it WILL NOT BE SEEN HERE...wow what a messed up world we live in, I can tell you that all of the other films that were released this weekend are not interesting to me at all....
Upset is how I was feeling on my Birthday after finding out the Precious movie was not showing in my area. I would have love to see the movie on my birthday Nov. 6, in the Chesapeke VA area. Why wasn't the movie showing in the VA area.
Movie sold out quick, while standing in line movie times sold out quick.three movie times 15 mins . wow!!!
I was VERY UPSET about not this picture not showing in Fort Myers on opening nite! WHY?
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
