Hollywood sure has a sick sense of humor, doesn't it? The latest retread news has Alcon Entertainment--yes, the same company making Blade Runner again with Ridley Scott--announcing plans to also remake Point Break.
"Whoa...Bodhi...say it ain't so!"
This from the press release (via Slashfilm): The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring, but plot points beyond that have not been revealed by the filmmakers. Yawn. If you didn't know, the two guys behind Alcon Entertainment, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, have to their recent producing credits Something Borrowed, The Book of Eli and those Sisterhood of the Globetrotting Jeans movies.
These announcements always make me think of, and then crack up at, this classic comment made by a producer who shall remain nameless at Comic-Con a few years ago --"We are always looking for new projects to remake."
Does it take that much for these studio "creative" types to come up with new ideas? And--love the Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze original though I do--who was screaming for a redo? Just go see the play, already.
im so sick of people and fandango reviewers complaining about re makes. i personally dont mind them if they are done well. if they are done well i usually find them to be more entertaining then the original versions. The fact of the matter is Hollywood is going to do what they need to do to make a buck. If re makes bother all of you so much why dont one of you come up with a great original idea for a movie, sence you seem to think its so easy. Dont just ***** about it on the internet.
I'm afraid that originality is gone. I've turned back to watching the movies from the 30's - 60's because nothing is very original with good character development anymore. I hardly go to the movies anymore! I'm 60 and if the young kids want to see good movies and good actors they need to go back to these movies that are playing on AMC or TCM because there aren't any good character actors like they use to have on the old movies that I just loved to watch.
Won't be seeing this. Waste of time and money. No one can follow the performances of Keanu and the late Patrick. This is a disgrace to him.
movie making is no longer about what we want to see when it used to be... remember Spielberg and Lucas being interviewed back in the day when the Indiana Jones movies were being released and they said we are making the movies we wanted to see when we were kids going to the movies. That spirit is lost! Now its corporations looking at a balance sheet and wanting maximum return dollars, rate it PG13 so everyone can go and use this formula here to make the investors happy. Bring on the obscure hungry independent filmmakers with the low budgets and nothing to lose.
The real question with this remake is....Will the actor playing the new Reeves character has the cahones...the jiggle berries......the insanity...the BALLS to jump out of the airplane without the parachute???????
Good luck with that one hollywood pussies!!!!
Hollywood has finally fallen into the mindset pushed by the ruling class in DC: Original thought is a bad thing....We are living in re-make, re-do, do-over sheeple hell.....
Didn't we already see this remade in '01 by the name "the fast and the furious"
Damn, they might as well consider a remake for every movie ever produced at this point. What's next? The Matrix gets a reboot? I don't even know how you could possibly remake that one and expect it to be good! The Hollywood bubble really is ready to pop.
I'm speechless. Hollywood very well may be dead to me now.
please don't allow this to happen, my favorite movie ever.
A sequel with Reeves playing an FBI agent gone wrong would be better. Actually, anything than will be better than a remake where it's not remade, it's made less cool and cheesy.
Please say it isn't so! The original with Keanu and Patrick is timeless, and priceless. Do NOT let this remake happen! No, no, no!
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
