New Pics of Superman and Tom Hiddleston Talks 'Thor 2'

By: Derrick Deane on September 1, 2011 at 12:52PM Comments (349)

Tom Hiddleston spoke with MTV and updated the current status of Thor 2, which is due in theaters July 26, 2013. Hiddleston said that a director is currently not attached to the sequel but that Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk’s name was mentioned as a potential candidate. Thor 2 is expected to begin filming next spring.

Hiddleston said the Thor sequel will pick-up where the upcoming Avengers movie ends.

“In The Avengers he’s really dark and kind of sociopathic,” Hiddleston said. “Obviously, I haven’t let go of the spiritual damage at the heart of the film. It still comes from that lost place, but he’s just incredibly nasty. I think that probably in Thor 2 he’ll have to take responsibility for what he’s done. There are still, even within The Avengers, moments where you see within Loki a glimmer of hope and that possibility of redemption.”

Hiddleston said that he’s personally championing for a nobler Loki adding, “This definitely isn’t going to happen, but I think there would be nothing more awesome than Loki and Thor fighting somebody side by side.”

The first Thor will arrive on DVD and Blu-Ray September 13.

Speaking of superheroes, yesterday new images of Henry Cavill decked out in the new briefless Superman costume hit the web. Take a look at the images below and let us know what you think of Supe’s new look.

Oh come on... Are we gonna have another screwed up superman movie.. you might as well have put nipples on it too.. Anyone who even know superman would say that's not superman. I hate the costume... I swear, why don't they get a avid comic reader to make this thing or do like they did in the green lantern a CG it all..

True, and once Superman is mature he can and should update the costume. But the first suit of the young superman should be simple. Even if he makes it. In the Reeves movie he inherits the suit from the fortress, as he does in smallvile; in that sense it would be a Kriptonian suit and this version would make more sense. I saw in some website some time ago an artists rendering of a possible suit that was very similar to this, and it worked. Even the lines at the waste where there but the belt buckle was the S emblem and had some red in it. And no wrist bands. I think the suit may work, but it could be a little less sophisticated. That suit was Dark grey interestingly enough. The suit is OK. The "image" and feel to the character are not

Costume crit only 1) Way to dark! Sups is a beacon not a stalker 2) Texture sucks: Just because it worked for one costume doesn’t mean you crap them all up 3) No pants... looks like an Olympic down hill jump suit 4) Stupid over the top tween hair – What is this the Super Twilight Dark Night Chores Line? 5) GOD no need to draw all that attention to the Super-Junk, it competes with the red S. for christ sake - looks like a stripper for C grade Japanese tentacle porn. Do any of these Hollywood Hand jobs know how to read or even bother to do any level of research on character creation that doesn’t involve them pulling fetish wear out of their fathers closets. Ewww Disgusting waste of an investor’s money and resources.

DC Comics is rebooting the entire DC universe - no more Krypton, kryptonite, Martha or Jonathan Kent. The whole thing sucks, so why not this costume too? Not a fan.

To me the costume looks plastic...almost like the musculature and shape of the actor is in the costume, not him. The other costumes used for prior Superman movies looked more supple; I don't like the monochrome look either...but no one asked me for advice...lol

I not understanding a lot of these comments left here. For me, I like to see some differences made as the new movies of old superhero characters come out. We are living in today’s times. If people are stuck on preferring the old styles of the past of a particular character, then watch the old movies of the past. This is what keeps things interesting in any movie.... some change!!. People want to see the difference between a new version of a movie as compared to an old version and I must say today movie makers do a pretty good job for the most part in bringing these movies to the big screen as compared to the 50’s through the 90’s. The new superman looks cool.

Don't like it. It would be fine if they kept the red shorts. I like the more muted darker colors. But what's he wearing? Blue jeans?

He looks updated, all the newer super heroes do. All the past heroes did their potrayals well but Superman looks like a lean mean crime fighting machine. Krypton has a new *** kicker now.

Everyone made great points! I apologize if i dont cite ur username. Moving foward, Superman with no underwear isn't the worst. In Superman returns the suit was perfect and if I recall it was a red belt to off set the lack of red briefs, so that was a good point. Also I agree with the storyline people, I'm just as concerned with the story as I am the suit BUT the suit is nothing to overlook. Superman is one of the superheros with the most underlying meaning and symbolism, everything counts. I think looking too far deep in what's to come is over obsessing ppl have to wait for it to be revealed, who knows maybe they read the, pretty much 98% negative comments and change some things.

Costume aside, the body type is wrong. The muscle definition is a little to David Barton Gym. Superman never had to hit the Gym, unlike Batman or some other human heroes, so he does not need this unnatural muscle shape and development. He should be lean, for sure, but not loom like he just finished a set and is posing in front of the mirror. With the physical comes also the postural. I mean, the poor guy is obviously trying to flex it. The great thing about reeves, Ruth, or welding is that they just stand up there in the middle of a room relaxed, with squared shoulders, not rounded torso to flatten out the abs and bulge the shoulders... Superman is kryptonian nobility, he is supposed to be reasonably secure and mature, not self conscious.

Very well put. To add - I get that he's "not some skinny punk who has never seen a gym - chambertlo", but neither was he a lightweight muscle head. Superman has always been tall, stout, big, wide chest and shoulders aaand that was a bout it. I feel the same way about this costume as I did when I first saw Sam Ramies take on Spidey's costume...which was - something missing, too dark and weird texture (all of which is shared sentiments here).

Don't like it at all. I understand that each director wants to put his "brand" on this, but the costume is a fundamental part of the story and should at least try to stay true to the original.

Did the designer of this atrocity never see the original? And just where was this costume supposed to have come from that makes it invulnerable? Can you spell "continuity?"

-Continued. Superman has been around for 72 years (more or less off the top of my head), he is supposed to be this great iconic comic book super hero, who has had all kinds of adventures in his multiple books. Out of those 72 years of his stories that could be mined for a great movie, we have to settle for a reboot of the series. I really hope they have something new and wonderful to offer to justify seeing this origin story being told again. My guess is by the 2nd movie he will be fighting Lex again, and if a 3rd comes maybe, just maybe Brainiac, Darkseid...someone else, please! Oh, well thank goodness for the Avenger's movie! DC is always playing catch up to Marvel. Probably be 8 to 10 years before you see a Justice League movie.

Two things that have been bothering me on this page. 1. People defending this costume by rampantly bashing Christopher Reeve. The hell? Reeve did a FANTASTIC job. His portrayal is iconic and, yes, he did fill the costume well, and, yes, he did hit the gym a lot to do it. He gained quite a bit of weight for the role and David Prowse (the man in the Vader outfit) was his personal trainer. It was a different time and Reeve still worked his butt off. No need to bring him down to defend the new look. 2. Why does this new costume have a belt buckle when it no longer has a belt? Weird. Oh well. Caville looks cut as hell. Pretty freakin impressive. Hope the movie's good.
