Summer is over and school is back in session, which means one thing: it’s time for the fall films to unfold! You, the Fandango user, voted and said these are the three family films you’re most looking to this fall:
1. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (September 27) The first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is one of the most surprisingly hilarious modern kids’ movies. In fact, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is the BEST reviewed movie by kids at KidsPickFlicks.com, the movie review site I run with my kids. The meta-comedy pulls off grounded silliness combined with awkward relatability while making science fun. In the sequel, inventor Flint Lockwood learns his defunct FLDSMDFR machine, which turned rain into food, wasn’t shut down after all and is now mixing the food with animals to create a hybrid “Foodimals,” like a Shrimpanzee, a Watermelephant and a Tacodile. No wonder families can’t wait. Opens September 27.
2. Frozen (November 27). The story is original but one element is tried and true: it’s a Disney princess musical! Princess Anna (Kristen Bell) teams up with a daring mountain man to stop a spell that keeps the kingdom in an eternal state of winter. Frozen is an animated comedy action-adventure with a funny animal sidekick, the formula for kid cinematic happiness. Opens November 27.
3. Free Birds (November 1). Why do turkeys pay a violent price today for two communities coming together peacefully centuries ago? Two turkeys stumble across a time machine and decide to stop the meaty tradition from ever starting. Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson talk turkey, literally, as the movie’s two heroes who will likely give a guilt trip to those who like to gobble up a Thanksgiving feast.
Meanwhile, here are three movies your family can see in the theater now:
One Direction: This Is Us: Extended Cut. Directioners will head back to the theater to see the boy band’s upgraded concert documentary, which includes 20 more minutes of footage and four additional fan-picked songs.
Instructions Not Included. Check out the rave “Must Go!” reviews from Fandango users for this Spanish-language heart-filled comedy. This PG-13 subtitled film is about an Acapulco womanizer who must raise his daughter alone after the mother drops the baby off and doesn’t return for six years.
Planes. For little kids, achieving the impossible is riding a bike or getting all the way across the monkey bars. Dusty, the little crop duster that could, shows kids that they should believe in themselves even when older siblings and playmates don’t.
After you see the movie, have your kids review it at KidsPickFlicks.com, where all kids are movie critics.
