Following a preview snippet which landed online earlier this week, we now get the full version of Adele's theme song to the upcoming James Bond movie Skyfall.
Tonally, the song certainly takes us back to the old school Bond movies and it'll be interesting to see what kind of graphics appear during the opening credits.
The studio version of the song will be available for purchase over on iTunes tonight.
Adele admitted in a statement that, "I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for Skyfall. There's a lot of instant spotlight and pressue when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and (co-writer) Paul Epworth had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no-brainer to do it in the end."
You'll notice the strings section immediately in the song to which Adele said, "When we recorded the strings, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I'll be back combing my hair when I'm 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day, I'm sure!"
The song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London with the lush accompaniment of a 77 piece orchestra.
Skyfall arrives in theaters November 9. We've included the audio version below along with the YouTube video version which includes the lyrics appearing over a James Bond-esque background.

Based on what I've read, it seems many of us Bond devotees long for the old John Barry composed tunes. While I like (not love) Skyfall, and it is of the same older style, for me it just doesn't quite hit the mark. And while I generally like Adele, I don't find this to be one of her best. So far, I rate it good, not great. It does have a rolling, building, catchy quality to it. Maybe it will grow on me.
I totally agree!
REALLY!!!! IS THIS IT.
Awesome song. It's def a Bond song. Her voice is so sexy and sensual. So fitting for a bond song / girl!!!
Yup, sounds like a Bond theme. It'll work.
I LOVE THE SONG. immediately!!.......I'm a brit and the song is in alignment with Shirley Bassey and other greats who have sung JB theme songs....but why is Adele so photoshopped in the above image.....she looks fine without all that PS work!!
Dav's Hot Picks
Thanks Fandango for allow me to hear this... Adele mastered it! She's right there with Tina Turner in my book.of absolute favorite James Bond theme songs!
I'm underwhelmed. This sounds like the soundtrack that plays in one's head at a cafe in LA, @ 3 a.m. after they've come off a four day "trip". Love Adele, but at first listen- THUMBS DOWN.
A great job. Adele is the greatest voice of this decade. Adele we love you.
Loved, loved the song!! Wouldn't have expected anything less from her. A bond girl don't know about that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
everyone in my family LOVE adele. My grandkids run around singing all her songs. And i can't wait to here then singing this new song (skyfall). Can't wait to see the movie.
I think she did a great job!
You know Adele she was just kidding but singing the score from the movie isn't for any other movie it's an honor in her eyes I'm sure.
Adele calls herself a 'Bond girl'? now that's a stretch. i thought the 'Bond girl' title was only for female heroines or villains appearing in the movies, not for theme performers.. and I agree with most of you, song is nothing out of the ordinary... btw, I don't like her voice either. When are they going to ask Pink to do one? Now there's an impressive voice and talent!
I'm not surprised about that, look how the definition of diva has changed from being a truly talented opera singer to any celebrity or 13 yr old girl who has an egotistical attitude.
Yes, Pink! She would be great!
Looks like the real focus of the posts is not Adele's new song...it's hilarious to see how people act out when they have an audience...even if it's an online audience. But...back to the point...the song us okay, not one of her best.
The song should be compared ONLY to past Bond themes. It is better than just 'okay' with that distinction. And I AM acting out. Just an old fool and his pride. But I can't let whippersnappers get away with their snide comments sometimes. As Flips "Geraldine' always used to say: "The devil made me say it"
This song is nothing special...and I own like every Bond theme. I personally do not like her voice.
I agree. Her voice is not suited to this. Nor is the song exceptional. Maybe it's better when added to the graphics, as someone else said.
Finally! An heir apparent to Shirley Bassey.
I hope you're being sarcastic. She's good, but not as good as Shirley.
I agree...Adele is no Shirley Bassey. but after the past 6 or 8 Bond flicks, this is a refereshing return to the classic Bond sound.
by the way, kids: I am 67, and ride my Mountian bike in the woods (shredding...) every day! Go ahead and count us old folks out. but watch your 6...I'll run you over.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
