Those of you holding out hope for a third Harold and Kumar movie may be waiting awhile as one-half of the sensational on-screen duo just landed a new job…at the White House. Actor Kal Penn (who most recently appeared on TV in "House") has decided to give up acting for the time being and take on a gig at the White House acting as a liaison between arts groups and President Barack Obama’s administration.
Pretty unreal, right? Apparently the actor has always been interested in politics (as most folks in Hollywood are), and even helped work on the floor of the Democratic National Convention earlier in 2008. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his main role will be to help connect Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities with President Obama.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Penn described his new job as being part of a group who "do outreach with the American public and with different organizations. They're basically the front door of the White House. They take out all of the red tape that falls between the general public and the White House." For the meantime he’ll give up acting–which means there won’t be a third Harold and Kumar flick anytime soon–but is extremely grateful for the opportunity, which, hey, may even lead to greater things … like Senator, Governor or even President Penn one day. Imagine that one!
John Cho, who makes up the other half of the Harold and Kumar duo, is definitely still acting and folks can get a look at his action chops in just under a month from now when he stars as Sulu in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
