Star Wars, J.J Abrams
Cool but will someone please tell JJ to lay off the lens flares! It's frigin annoying!
Didn't I just read that JJ didn't want to direct Star Wars?!?!?!
I just read that too. I was hoping the film would have been on the sidelines. JJ is a great director but no one can not replace George Lucas with his Star Wars franchise.
If JJ Abrams isn't going to direct Episode VII, then Disney should consider hiring George Lucas to direct. It's that simple!
His Star Trek reboot was as successful launch so I doubt Episode VII will be just as bad as the Prequel Trilogy.
How about John Waters?
1977, I was blown out of my Chuck Taylors seeing Star Wars for the first time. 1980, Empire Strikes Back, still impressed and thinking it couldn't get any better. 1983, Return of the Jedi and I'm thinking 'Ewoks, okaaay? I WAS right it didn't get any better.' 16 years later, cons, Jar Jar Binks and Hayden Christensen and more. Pros, a young Obi Wan vs Darth Maul, Yoda's duels against Count Dooku and Darth Sidious, and FINALLY hearing James Earl Jones voice and the iconic breathing once again after Vaders helmet is attached to finally put an end to the crapping on of SW. Lucas sells his old whore to Disney who is now it's new pimp, that hired J.J. to clean her up and put her to work. Hmmm... Yaaay, new Star Trek movie this summer
As long as JJ can kick out another Star Trek between Star Wars 7 and 8, I'll be happy... I LOVED the new Star Trek and I think he kept the feel of the entire series of the Trek world but presented it in such a fresh new way, Star Trek in my opinion, tends to have more character development so I thought the balance Abrams did was perfect. There are simply SO MANY different ways Star Wars can be done for a post Jedi series, one of which is entirely new characters w/entirely new story lines and only some mentions of the past... but no matter what it should be fun! REALLY looking forward to it!
What a disaster! Ruining Star Trek was not enough? J.J. Abrams couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag. Flash over substance. He directs like a Hollywood producer; a business man who has no conception of art. I could do a better job. What about Ron D. Moore for Christ's sake? Galactica was true art. I had thought: "Who could they get that is worse than Lucas?" Kiss Star Wars goodbye unless Abrams has some kind of spiritual awakening and learns that film is an art form and that it is dialogue, tension and character that make a good story not action, explosions and artificial plot twist. Please J.J. if you read this read some Lajos Egri or call Ron Moore or Bradley Thompson and David Weddle or Michael Taylor to write it.
I’m sure Abrams is a nice guy but why could't they choose an artist instead of a business guy?
Duncan Jones should have been chosen to direct the new Star Wars movie, but hey, I'll take JJ Abrams any day!
I would have high hopes for the new Star Wars with Abrams and all, but Disney is a corporate soul-crusher. An unfortunate combo for a franchise like Star Wars.
Look at what they're doing to Pixar already - trolling the catalog for sequels, high-quality but ho-hum fare like Brave. The bottom-line makes Disney go, not how good the movie is. I guarantee there are already a straight-jacket of pre-reqs for the script for both political correctness and marketable gadgets for Disney's merchandise machine to shill.
Like I said I have high hopes for the new movie, but beware Disney's corporate suits.
Disney may not always be the best but i believe they are doing just fine nowadays
Disney may be doing good adding new attractions to their park but I have been highly disappoint with the movies lately. But they are killing my movie magic experience lately by thinking 3D is the best and it is not. I am not going to the movies that often because of them. On how much I hate 3D, in my area there is nothing but the 3D crap movies. There are no regular format movies. Disney is over running the world by taking everything like the directors these days. It looks like JJ Abraham got sucker in to do the Star Wars movies, which is to bad! He has a lot of pressure on him to out do George Lucas.
I hear that a lot from YouTube commenters. I don't despise 3D as you do but I only go see them once in a while
Very well put, and i fear you are exactly right. Leopards don't change their spots...
I love what is now 4,5 & 6. With Jedi my most favorite when the new Trilogy came out I didn't think much of them 1 is Ok! don't care for 2
and 3 not bad, Vll I'll have to wait and see. I'll will go watch it!
Thats great news for us SCI FI fans and I hope JJ manages to make it as good as the refranchised Star Trek movies. if things do work out we all know that the cast he selectes will certainly be younger tahn original cast and I hope he picks out the right team to fill the roles of americas great movie franchise. Congrad JJ and I hope you make things fun and enjoyable like your other movies. Now all we have to get is Steven Spielberg to help out. Good Luck JJ and may your role change the ways things have been over the last few years. Good Luck .
If they don't then I'll go back to the Enterprise
I don't know because Abrams did a great job when it came to "Super 8" but "Star Trek" was a complete bore. I think someone like Neil Blomkamp could do a better job with the new "Star Wars" trilogy but that is just my two cents.
I thought he did better with Star Trek because I felt like Spielberg did most of the work on Super 8
"Star Trek" was completely awful. I could tell what the movie was going to do before it did it. The characters were shallow, the plot was completely predictable, I barely felt any type of impact and the story was shoddy and ill-structured. For the life of me, I have no idea why any director would resurrect a dead franchise like "Star Trek"?
I'm not saying I liked Star Trek, I was just pointing out that he did Star Trek on his own.
Many people did like, I am one of those.
I don't know... Blomkamp has a tendency for political commentary (see "District 9" and the upcoming "Elysium"). Abrams, however, is no stranger to "lasers and aliens and pseudo-science" sci-fi; and if we get Spielberg behind him, this could just be the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Frank Oz voiced Yoda.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
