Chalk this up as the strangest news you'll hear all week: Apparently, there have been some very early discussions regarding James Cameron potentially directing Angelina Jolie in a 'Cleopatra' movie. Calm down those horses, though, because this thing is far from a done deal. It's still early, and we imagine there are a lot of little details to work out.
Angelina Jolie, James Cameron
I think professionally they could be a good fit, the problem however would be these two both have a history of falling for thier co workers AJ, all three of her most significant love intersts she met while working(hubbies 1&2 plus brad) James, his current(Titanic) and her predesessor(Terminator). were both in his movies. Of course when I think of Cleopatra I also think Burton and Taylor.
AJ is a great actress, Salt was outstanding but she will need to fill out more because she's way too SKINNY for Cleopatra. As for James Cameron he can pull it off just like Titanic..
Wasn't Cleopatra african? No african women to play this role? Wow!!!
She was a women of color, and one of the most beautiful women of history. With that, the powers that be can't relate to a women of color being Beautiful. and of our time the only beautiful women is Angelina Jolie...Wow!
If you want an example of how Angelina can make a movie exciting, just look at her latest movie, "Salt". Enough said! That one was a jaw jropper! She is definitely my fav actress, and ever has been since Hackers! I know that this one would be amazing!
It's odd thinking of James Cameron directing Angeline Jolie, but like some someone else said - he is known for making the leading women in his films have the unconventional "hero" role in strong story lines - Ellen Ripley being the best example in 'Aliens'. I think he could pull it off - you know Egypt is going to be presented in epic proportions!
Cleopatra is an amazing story full of battles, love, and attempted assasinations. It has so much to offer anyone who has any sense of good taste. I couldn't think of anyone who would be a better Cleopatra then Angelina Jolie.
As beautiful as Angelina is, Cleopatra was half her age when she first met Julius Caesar. Hope Cameron has the Benjamin Button magic for her. I'm sure he does.
If it is as epic as it could be I am totally supporting it. if it's a drama... Not so much hopefully it will be this amazing spectacular action drivin masterpiece.
Ancient Egypt and Rome in all their splendor, and monumental battles involving the Roman legions and the Egyptian army -- all brought to life with Cameron's signature style in 3D should be quite spectacular. An added plus is that Cameron is not writing the screenplay and Scott Rudin is the producer. The only downside I see is that having floated this combination of talent -- Cameron + Jolie -- there is no way now that they can satisfy the public with any other tandem. So as much as the news came as a shock to everyone, I have to believe this must be pretty close to a done deal for Amy Pascal to allow word to leak.
No all you really need to make it appealing to men is ***.
As long as James Cameron brings some Aliens into the movie to make it more appealing to men, then the movie will do just fine. But if its just a simple dramatic story, then it will be boring!!
One of James Cameron's greatest strengths is his ability to write believable, strong-willed female characters. Just look at Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, and Neytiri. They were all one of the strongest elements of their respective movies. This makes him the perfect director for this film, especially with Angelina Jolie in the lead role.
This will mostly be a chick flick unless somebody comes up with something to make it marketable to men as well as women. Maybe that's the point of bringing James Cameron to the project.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
