Up until this point, Jaimie Alexander has been floating around in a few random TV shows (Kyle XY, Bones, CSI: Miami), and just segued over to the big screen this past year with an uncredited role in Love and Other Drugs, and as Sif in Marvel's Thor. Out of all the well-known actors and actresses featured in Thor, Alexander is the one who really needs this to be her big break. From here she has a couple low-profile indie films on the horizon, but Thor is the film that could open some doors for the pretty brunette who's not afraid of taking on more kick-ass female roles (if and when they exist).
So it's no surprise to see her already campaigning for the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. In an interview with Movieline, she readily admits that Croft is the role she really wants, and who can blame her?
Landing a gig as the new Lara Croft would immediately put Alexander in a league that once included Angelina Jolie (who starred as the character when she was trying to make a name for herself as an action heroine too). Sure, Alexander says she's "not going to try and be Angelina Jolie," but she didn't say anything about becoming the next Angelina Jolie. And what up-and-coming actress wouldn't want that?
We didn't get to see enough of Alexander in Thor to get a good sense of how she'd tackle Lara Croft, and that may hurt her chances of landing the role. She's not the first actress to openly campaign for the female lead in an action franchise (plenty of young actresses also publicly chased the Wonder Woman role), but she is definitely one to keep an eye on. Implanting herself in the geek consciousness is definitely the right first step to take.
As far as Alexander's full Lara Croft pitch, she told Movieline ...
"I’m not going to try and be Angelina Jolie. She’s her own woman, and she did a fantastic job as Lara Croft. If that opportunity arises for me, then I would put my own spin on Lara Croft. There’s no way I would try and copy what she did. I think that’s a huge mistake with actors and actresses who are taking on a role that was previously done by someone else."
"[Angelina Jolie] has her own sex appeal. She’s built very differently than I am. She’s her own woman. And I think that if you try to mimic that — if I was trying to pull off the exact way she said certain things and how she carried herself — then that’s not being me. That’s just copying another actor. Whereas you can look to other actors for inspiration, you should still maintain your own identity through a character. And that’s something I would love to tackle.”

I Pity The Poo
Now, since Lara is getting a new younger look in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Reborn game, it would play a big part in what they would be looking for from an actress. But after going over a few pics of Alexander's, I personally don't think she would fit the bill for either of Lara's looks.
But, I do however have to agree that she COULD make for a very nice Wonder Woman. She has very strong bone structure and piercing eyes. The only problem with Wonder Woman is that there is no woman exactly like her. You could only start with someone like Alexander, build her body to be as thick and muscular as WW's with an intense training regiment. And then let's not forget the addition of some important assets up top. Gotta fill out that costume right.
Olivia Wilde is interesting looking, not nasty. Once you get used to her, she is almost exotic. That *is* Lara Croft. But I don't see her in Tomb Raider - her acting in House and Tron were good, but don't fit the part of Croft, imo.
Back on topic, this gal has the looks. I haven't seen Thor yet (tomorrow!). But just looking the part isn't enough. (see above)
I agree with you here. I don't know if I really find Olivia unattractive, she just looks interesting. I thought she was good looking in TRON, but not overly hot. She's very unique looking. As for Jaimie, meh, I def see WW, not so much Croft. How did you like Thor?
When I saw her in Thor, I could imagine her in a pair of starry tights. She can be Wonder Woman for sure!
^Oh man but Olivia Wilde is nasty looking. Lora Croft needs to be at least atractive!
"Olivia Wilde is nasty looking." I understand each of those individual words, but put together as a sentence, it just doesn't make sense to me.
I second that. Please, take those words back, Nassa.
What are you taking about? Have you never seen her? She's got an airplane landing strip above her eyes and just doesn't look very appealing. Nasty was being nice.
Are you kidding? One of my favorite actresses. Dark hair with blue eyes is an obvious win. If her role in Tron Legacy didn't do it for you, or her part in House or in Cowboys & Aliens (upcoming) then I don't know what kind of woman pleases you lol.
I don't plan on seeing Tron and don't watch House. She doesn't look very good in Cowboys/Aliens. What about her fourhead/Fivehead? "Aubrey Plaza" there, thats like one of the most attractive looking women i've ever seen.
No wonder you didn't seem to know who Wilde is lol. Aubrey Plaza is quite the average Hollywood woman to me.
I'd rather see Olivia Wilde take the role or Gemma Arterton
I've never seen her before til now, she should get a shot at it, frankly I'm with That_Guy_Who_Loves-Movies when as far as not caring about this franchise. Games ruled but didn't like the movies.
I guess she isn't any better then anyone else I'd pick for the role, but then again I don't care for this franchise.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
