'Hunger Games' Happenings: The DVD Release Date and Robert Pattinson in 'Catching Fire'?

By: Sean OConnell on May 23, 2012 at 2:31PM Comments (343)

Could Robert Pattinson possibly trade one massive movie franchise in The Twilight Saga for another in The Hunger Games?

That’s the rumor making the rounds after the Web site Think McFly Think revealed that Lionsgate is “chasing” Pattinson for its upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, and would like for him to play Finnick Odair.

On a few levels, it makes sense. Catching Fire now will be helmed by Francis Lawrence, who directed Pattinson in the literary adaptation Water for Elephants. And Pattinson’s a marquee sensation who immediately brings tons of exposure to an already popular film series.

But – and here’s where the ride goes off the rails a bit – readers of Suzanne Collins’ books know that Odair is nothing like Pattinson (on the surface), and the casting wouldn’t be ideal. As Perri Nemiroff writes for Movies.com, “I’ll be the first to admit that Pattinson is a good looking guy, but Finnick Odair is much more the Abercrombie model-type – tall, tan, fit and handsome. Sure Pattinson could beef up, but I suspect he’s just too naturally lean to look strong and athletic enough.”

What do you think, Hunger Games fans? Is RPattz the right guy to play Odair? Or is this stunt casting to bring a major movie star over to a franchise that doesn’t need it?

Speaking of the original Games, Lionsgate also revealed that the film will reach DVD and Blu-ray shelves – as well as On Demand and Digital Download – on Aug. 18 at 12:01 a.m. Details of supplements are unavailable at this time … but we do have a trailer for the home entertainment release. Enjoy, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

I'm not sure it would be that bad as Leam Hemsworth is an awful actor in this film.... I think Benjamin Stone, Daniel Sharman, Sam Witwer or Sam Huntington would be a good Finnick. I wouldn't be dissapointed if Rob Pattinson played the role, I only would feel bad for the children on set who would be illed with second-hand smoke. He really needs to quit that stuff.

What about Chris Hemsworth as Finnick Odair? It would be so cool to see the 2 brothers in same movie - Peeta (Liam) & Finnick (Chris) - my 2 cents...

This would be just about the worst possible casting choice for Finnick. Beyond the fact that Pattinson is simply not right physically, he's not a good enough actor, nor the right kind of actor, to play Finnick's range. I am hoping against hope that they go for someone tall, handsome, sun-kissed, and with a swimmer's body. I don't think he has to be white (all they say is that he's gorgeous, golden, has sea green eyes, and bronze hair). I personally think they should cast Jesse Williams ([BLOCKED WEBSITE] He's stunning, has the right eyes, looks muscular enough, without looking like a body-builder, and has that little seductive/flirtatious/mischievous glint in his smile. He also has a really good range in his acting

I totally agree! Don’t get me wrong, I love Robert Patterson, but I think he should stay in Twilight. I believe he is not fit to portray the character Finnick Odair. Catching Fire needs Finnick Odair to be tall, tan and muscular and Robert Patterson has trouble fitting in those categories. We need some like Cam Gigandet, Channing Tatum, Taylor Lautner, Tom Hardy or Zac Efron someone under those lines. Finnick Odair is an attractive character that has a smooth and charming personality. I’m sorry Robert Patterson, but I don’t believe you are fit for the job. Even if Robert Patterson is chosen, I don’t think Suzanne Collins and Hunger Game fans (such as myself) would let that happen. Just my two cents.

The last thing Hunger Games needs is an actor or actress from Twilight. Especially, one that seems to do nothing but sulk his way through movies. Yes, he's very good looking but that's it.

If they want to bring someone over from the Twilight Saga it should be my favorite...KELLAN LUTZ! :) And there are others that could play Finnick as well but NOT Pattinson. PLEASE NO!

I am like THE biggest fan of the Hunger Games. Everyone I have talked to has said that they are not seeing the movie if Rob is Finnick, and I agree! He started as a wizard, became an undead vampire, and now he wants to be in the games? No way!

Rp would be awful as Finnick. I would seriously consider never seeing the movie if he was cast. His acting capability is no where near what is needed to play finnick and his physical characteristics are not even close to a match. Finnick is my favorite character and if they cast someone as known as rob pattinson to play him I would be outraged. They did an amazing job casting in hunger games so I hope they keep it up this movie. Rob Pattinson doesn't fit this part at all. It would be a huge mistake and an insult to the character of Finnick to cast him. Please DO NOT unless you want the wrath of every Finnick fan cast on you.Rob Pattinson could not portray the immense depth of Finnick. And Finnick needs to look like a swimmer! Or at least be

NOOOO! Don't get me wrong, I adore RPat; he is the perfect Edward...but he not even entertain the idea of being Finnick! No no no no! I remember reading not that long ago that they wouldn't even consider anyone who worked on any of the Twilight films to be a part of the HG series...? I'm all for Zac Efron for Finnick! He's PERFECT! He can pull off the emotional aspect, and he has the right look! Just sayin'...

I'd just like to say that these are movies and they can make someone look the way they want for the role. Actors gain or lost weight for roles, they dye or cut their hair....so many different things. Either you enjoy the movies or you don't. Either you like the characters or you don't. Watch the movies or don't. You don't need to change others opinions. Personally I think Jennifer Lawrence was perfect for her role and RP for his. And yes some things have to be changed around but I think the Hunger Games covered the basics. So what if there was a character change here and there. Movies aren't perfect but it may have been for good reason or it was long to begin with.
